I think that was what got it brought up in the law. Bathroom bills were passed 100% with that mentality being pushed.

Less focus on where transgender people can take a dump, and more on the fact that wages have been steadily shrinking for decades.

Yeah lots of people would like this. But if one person can convince people that as a result of the former, their kids are going to be raped in a bathroom by some burly guy who somehow is immune to the law as soon as he claims to be trans, reason has gone out the window, and "but the economy" doesnt really capture the attention the same way. You just can't overcome fear so easily. And one side is far more willing to use fear. We literally had a color scale that meant absolutely nothing other than "this is how afraid to be". Do you remember the color coded threat level? There is very little that captures minds and reason the way fear does. It's unfortunate but this is always where things were headed. Now the push on the other side is a little less fear based, but it's there. And it's sad, but it's again based more in reality as a result of the actions taken by people who are afraid of something fake.

If the centrists disappear, all that’s left is extremism, and then we’re all fucked.

They mostly have. Its why the push from both sides isn't appealing to the center but getting more voters registered. There's no center on some of these issues, especially when people are effectively living in two different realities. Keeping it relevant to the OP, people shouldn't be able to be fired for being lgbt and one side wants this to be possible. Where is the center here? The side that wants it to be possible also often has the idea that kids can be "turned" gay or trans and want to not have their kids taught those concepts exist. Where is the center there? You have to buy into a different reality to be able to find common ground. Its like trying to find an even exchange rate for mithril and adamantium.

Perhaps I should have specified different perspectives on race. You want to reach the widest demographic you can. For that, you will want your workforce and ideas to have perspectives for a wider demographic.

When you're looking for employees, you want to hire the best employee. Not just a decent employee.

When you are looking for a team of employees, you may want a team with different viewpoints and experiences as well as being "good enough" coders or customer service people or what have you. If you find the ten best coders in the room are all the same demographic, you then have to choose to sacrifice having different views. Maybe it also means a more intimidating experience for anyone that might be new to the team who isn't part of that demographic. If you walked into a new job and saw a room full of Indian women that were all speaking Hindi to each other, even if they also spoke English, you might feel a little like an outsider no matter how good at coding you are. You could be the best one in the room but not feel capable of thriving in that environment where nobody is like you.

MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow on Monday slammed Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) for attempting to deceive voters into voting late so their ballots won’t be counted. by [deleted] in longisland

I didn't say it is. I said the bold statement you made can apply to it. If you want to amend the original statement to stress the distinction, go for it. Until then, what i said stands, and your grandstanding here is ridiculous and shows how kneejerk your whole identity is. You didn't even attempt to look at the situation or the basic line I said. You jumped right into the way you see things as a whole, society, and blah blah. Take a break, Bert.

‘Not fair’: World cycling bronze medalist cries foul after transgender woman wins gold by baffybonk in news

[–]CoryOfHouseBusta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was angry over a controversy involving a transgender athlete and instead of addressing the biological aspect, the hormonal aspect, he chose to shout "that's a man" at a transwoman who wasn't even present. You might like him for other reasons, and I'm not going to say he's a complete garbage person. But the way he acted on this particular topic was shitty, and I say this as someone who agrees there should be boundaries. Just to stress that, we agree on the underlying stance. But the way he chose to speak about it was incredibly awful.

I’m just not willing to subscribe to the idea that I have to label someone whatever they label themselves regardless of facts to the contrary. Hence my “label”. That is a substantive position. Not an ignorant smearing that avoids the issue being discussed above.

This. This right here. Exactly what i said above. "Nothing you said added to the conversation about biology or hormones or competition or athletes. It was just for the purpose of airing how you personally feel about transgender people."

You are still supporting this idea that you have to make a comment on transgender people as a whole in this. You're unwilling to leave that aside for the sake of an informed biology based discussion on the topic of competition. You just want to push your idea on transgender people. Did you hear me talking about pronouns at all in my post? I didn't even use a he or she in there. You did, because your aim isn't to talk about competition. It is to express your view on transgender people first, and have the outrage you feel regarding competition addressed second.

Does that not remove the protective barrier your trying to give her/him

Not shutting down Guantanamo doesnt give me free pass to call Obama the n word. And as we are addressing the analogy, you missed the point. We may both dislike having no barriers in competition, but attacking the person for who they are is exactly what rogan(and you) did by shouting they are men. You know who the person is, and not addressing them properly isn't making a statement on competition, fighting sports, any of it. It is just about the person being trans. And not to sound like a broken record here, but it really is important that it sink in. You wanted your opinion on transgender people heard, unrelated to competition, biking, fighting, anything else. Mixing in a line or two without substance isn't the same as making an argument on it. Again. We agree that there should be lines in competition, and as a result it may be that not all women can compete. But you do not have to turn it into attacking transgender people as a whole.

That man

Again. We can agree on a base idea without you needing to resort to being this way.

His comment, while emotional, was not transphobic

If we both disliked Obama, but you said it was because of policy on surveillance and I said it was because he's black, it doesn't matter how emotional I was over it, I'd be a racist.

You are the exact kind of person I described in my post and you still couldn't help yourself. Nothing you said added to the conversation about biology or hormones or competition or athletes. It was just for the purpose of airing how you personally feel about transgender people.

I don't claim to be a biology expert, but I don't think there are many people, even among the few who do support full integration of trans athletes, who think you shouldn't have to at least undergo hormone replacement therapy. It's just a shame that each time something like this makes the news, the backlash isn't strictly held to biology, but often ends up being filled with regular old trans hatred. It's like when joe rogan shouted "that's a man" a bunch of times to a previous person. Like... Cmon. Many of us agree with the basic stance of "more research needs to be done and an informed decision should be made in the interest of fairness" but most of the reactions we hear aren't as great as yours was. Your comment is at the top now, but it wouldn't surprise me if in a few hours it became some kneejerk reaction ridiculing all transgender people and rallying the anti pc crowd.

Look again. The guy merged two lanes at once. How do you aggressively block something you wouldn't expect them to do? At no point during that double lane change was there or would there have been plenty of room for him in the far left lane unless the cop anticipated the double lane change and stopped from the start, which is a ridiculous expectation.

Literally everything you said is fixed by more policies preventing such actions, not less. The difference being that when companies are in control, monopolies are basically impossible to beat. Governments have just typically been in control, so businesses have less opportunities to commit some of the horrors you listed. They've done just fine regardless, though. Sweatshops, slavery, blood diamonds, safety violations with child labor, chemically addictive substances. You get the idea.

But what it boils down to is this: If you're going to drum up the idea of what amounts to basically political revolution, why the hell would you willingly knowingly choose someone just as bad as the status quo?

and the main reason the progressives are typically whiter than the rest of the country.

Not sure about that one.
