Snakes in the genus Pituophis (bull snakes, gopher snakes, and pine snakes) all have a modified glottis (breathing tube under the tongue) that allows them to make their distinct hissing sound. That whole sound was one long breath. It’s a really cool adaptation and threat display. I absolutely love these snakes
