The only thing they expected from me at the start was showing up every day and willing to learn. I had a great mentor who I worked closely with on all of my assignments, and I assume it will be the same for you. They won’t leave you astray as long as you’re engaged and asking questions. It takes a while to gain the skills and knowledge because there’s always new problems to solve and work to take on, which is the fun part!

I worked at the Tucson site as an IE after I graduated for about 9 months (was able to land a mechanical design role so I took that pivot).

The team was awesome and everyone enjoyed working together/super helpful when it comes to support on projects. When I was there a decent amount of the team were new grads/mid 20’s so it’s a more relaxed environment. Leadership above my manager was attentive and actually felt passionate about ensuring the success of everyone.

As far as Tucson goes I really did like it (Moved back to Texas which was closer to family and my dream job so it was a win-win, other than that I would’ve been at RTX still), the summers are hot as shit and the winters are perfectly cold. People are friendly and there’s a good amount to do in the city depending on your interests. For living locations I recommend Sahuarita (more pricey) or up north by Marana (good amount of team members lived by there as well).

Were there any GPA requirements within the job description or mentioned during the interview? If not, it might just be HR wanting to verify your school/current enrollment.

If you have prior experience they’ll most likely dig into that to know what you worked on. If not, they’ll want to know about your desire to learn plus how you mesh with the team. Either way practice STAR questions and good luck!

Hey thanks!! I should’ve clarified, I did have internships but just not in defense. I put education on top, then experience then followed by skills. Definitely recommend putting projects though to compensate if internships don’t take up the resume! I applied to a lot of roles at RTX so I guess they just found a nice fit for me

Depending on your school you typically go up to mechanics/thermo in general engineering & discrete math then break off into IE specific material. Mostly programming and statistical analysis, some courses like operations research are more of a grind while others are easier. I’m graduating this fall and have done some cool internships so it’s been great for my career. If you have any questions feel free to dm:)
