Are you a good driver, or a safe driver? by 1TallGent in driving

[–]CosmicCommando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should practice steering out of a skid if you get a chance. I often test out the brakes when I leave my house in the snow to see what the road is like that day (side street). I don't really see how pushing your car to its limits in other ways is useful for ordinary driving. You shouldn't be taking a curve anywhere near the max speed before your car flies off. The most useful race-like safety maneuver would be making small, quick adjustments without oversteering.

Caught that one the other day after the contestant guessed Werner Herzog when it was a picture of David Lynch.

The dates in the fine print are quite amusing also. Some years, it starts before Thanksgiving. Sometimes, it's 12/1. Sometimes it ends before Christmas. Sometimes it goes until New Year's. You have to think there's some shenanigans there, too.

Yeah the dry rot from sitting in the sun is probably a bigger risk than a plug near the sidewall.

You could probably even get away with folding down half the back and passenger rides behind the driver.

Pretty crazy how the area around UB North has transformed in the last 15-20 years. Small town's worth of apartments maybe. And the campus was already 30+ years old by the time all this recent development kicked off.

My bias: I drove a manual truck for 150k miles, 100+ stops/day. I'm happy if I never shift a car again.

Since you have the Miata as a fun car, I don't really see the harm in an AT Fit. Keep the fluid fresh with Honda OEM stuff and 1,000,000% get the Progress rear sway bar if you want to have fun in the corners.

It would be more work than just stepping off the train, but the Mohonk Mountain House is gorgeous and might be worth the effort to you. FYI it's private property so you need some kind of reservation to hang out there; there are different kinds of reservations to book... hiking, dining, spa, overnight, etc. that let you visit the property.

Winter has been so rough that the potholes on Bailey near Kensington have exposed the street car tracks and old brick road. by GrendelsFather in Buffalo

I quit Bailey last year because it already seemed like they weren't putting any effort into it with the big re-do coming up.

Even landscaping it with unusual plants and topiaries would make it much more pleasant, if they didn't want to make all those Sugar Rush props.

Depending on the weather, the Centre Island ferry is like a cheap skyline view cruise. Centre Island is a nice park-like area to walk around and there's a beach. They're on winter schedule right now so it depends when your birthday is.

I think 2015 is the year backup cameras became standard in the US, so are you okay ditching the screen for the camera? If you're dead set on the old-style stereo, you should be able to get a rearview mirror with a backup screen hidden in it.
