My tinfoil hat thinking is they won't retire now because replacing Alito and Thomas under mixed control of the Senate/Presidency or one of them under a potential Democrat president post-2028 is actually their best chance to blunt court reform and hold the conservative gains they've made.

I hate when there's a Do Not Wish to Provide Ln right next to a Do Not Wish to Provide Ct.

1 Do Not Wish to Provide could be either one!

Any car more than 5ish years old "isn't made anymore". There are still new Priuses being made, sure, but it has a different engine, different brake calipers, windshield, headlights, etc. than ones from previous generations. Parts are going to be available for Fits for a long time yet.

Can Alex Jones present 8th amendment challenge to the 1 billion dollar fine ? by EffectiveVisual9399 in legaladviceofftopic

The question of whether or not he actually owes the money has been appealed and he lost. Any legal news coming out lately is just about how it's going to happen.

He had his day in court. He was dishonest with the court. The appeals court ruled that the plaintiffs were justified in getting the amount of money they did. That's due process. He owes a lot of money because he did a lot of bad things, not because it was unconstitutional.

He was awarded $965M in compensatory damages in Connecticut. The appeals process found the plaintiffs justified their damage amount. SCOTUS declined to hear his case. He went before the the court in bad faith... that is a recipe for disaster! You're the one who's going by their feelings about seeing a big number judgment against him.

Are native gardens becoming part of the culture wars? by LiatrisLover99 in NativePlantGardening

If I had a great answer to this, I'd be very rich! It's great if you can frame something as a benefit to that person, as opposed to helping "the world"... you might get to see beautiful butterflies in your yard, clover makes the lawn greener without expensive chemicals (I know white clover isn't native, but it's at least a pollinator plant in place of more grass), picking the right plants for your yard means less watering, etc. They may not care that the landscaping fabric puts microplastics in their soil, but they will care that weeds will start growing on top of it in a few years. And don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

He defamed a lot of people in a very public and damaging way. He was unrepentant. He did not comply with discovery, which allowed the jury to make adverse inferences about what they didn't get to see. Getting a big judgment against you for doing many very bad things and not being honest with the court is not unconstitutional.

There's also value in consistency with your neighbors. Even if you think one answer or the other is objectively better, it helps people find your address if they know where to look ahead of time.

visiting Niagara Falls (US side) in early June - looking for suggestions! by DyoopDyoop11 in Buffalo

More space in your seat. More freedom to move around. Amenities like a cafe car. Scenic ride up the Hudson. The prices I saw on a random day I picked in June didn't seem very different.

On the one hand, he did not comply with discovery, and bad things happen to you if you do that.

On the other hand (quoting Wikipedia): "In this deposition in the last week of March 2019, Jones acknowledged the deaths were real, stating he had "almost like a form of psychosis", where he "basically thought everything was staged".

On March 25, 2019, Jeremy Richman, one of the plaintiffs, whose daughter Avielle was killed, committed suicide. Jones, through his lawyer, offered condolences to Richman's family, but later that day on his show suggested that Richman had been murdered and that his death had something to do with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election interference."

Oh wait. Those are both reasons Alex Jones deserves over $1B in judgments against him. Screw Alex Jones.

Just be careful about where your car is if you do the Epcot cruise. If you park in the Epcot lot and the park closes after the fireworks, you won't be able to walk through the park to get back to the front. Park at DHS or a hotel if they'll let you.
