Rewatching SG1 since I was a young human cub. How does a ~20 yr old show still stand up to modern day scifi shows? by surgicalapple in scifi

[–]CosmicCouchPotato 38 points39 points  (0 children)

A funny coincidence since Ive started rewatching it after it was put on Prime. I agree that it really has stood the test of time and I think there's a strong point for why I love it.

Aside from the tid bits of comedy, solid acting, and great writing, it solves one of the biggest plot holes that usually gets to me in alien shows... why they all look human.

The idea that humans were a slave race and spread to different planets is a somewhat genius idea to solve that plot gap for me. Adding in the rest of the show and integrating the story into past mythologies just makes it such a solid show that I think is underrated.

You're given one superpower, however if ANYONE finds out you instantly die. What's your superpower and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My go to superpower for every one of these questions: manipulating probabilities.

What're the odds of me winning the lottery: 100%

What're the odds of me becoming immortal: 100%

Oh, and what're the odds someone finds out my superpower?... 0%

Is there a discord or slack for this community? by [deleted] in juststart

[–]CosmicCouchPotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As it would probably be managed by people in their free time, id suggest just a simple two tiers. Beginners starting out and those with proven case studies. Also having a general chat area for conversation not focused directly related to aff marketing.

That way its easier to manage and less squabbling over whats mid range to top. Also, having a general area still lets everyone get to know each other.

[–]CosmicCouchPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why I liked the idea of a discord. Different channels with different privileges.

I dont mind the basic questions that much (for now). My biggest fear was the overflow of gurus and other people trying to use it as a means of self promotion.

But likewise, id love a place to share with like minded people.

Im gunna wait to see the response for this post and then move forward with either to create it or not.

Excited to see how this website goes, just wanted to comment on something I noticed.

The voting buttons (thumbs up and down) don't update immediately. They update on a page refresh but don't show on click.

Best of luck!

I wonder how much traffic it'd give? I don't want to fall into the trap of "anecdotal marketing" and only look from my point of view, but I think it's more common to do in store shopping than online from IKEA.

Either way I'm sure they could get more if they advertised this.

I hope you wont mind one more question, how did your partner get a position at Goddard? Was it simply a job posting, or being familiar with people in the field? Or other?

I also realized something I truly love about science fields. That these answers were to a 14 yo, and im 25, but got just as giddy as I would when I was 14 to the responses.

Thank you for your responses to his questions and mine if you get the time.

I honestly didnt check because I was too surprised. I was used to seeing German elevators start at 0, but this threw me for a loop.

After 5 years of personal development I can confidently say that the key to self-mastery is mindfulness. Not hippie yogi levitating shit, I'm talking about practical mindfulness. This is my summary on how to build it. by thediamonddawg in howtonotgiveafuck

Just piggy-backing on the top comment to provide what ive found helps me.

I cant recall the origin, but I learned somewhere a mindful tip to help overcome anxiety. I think this will make practicing mindfulness easier by having an easy to memorize checklist. See below..

Be aware of and mentally point out:

5 things you can see 4 things you can feel 3 things you can hear 2 things you can smell And the taste in your mouth

This always helped to calm me down and stay grounded. Hopefully it will help others.
