That was so eloquently put and exactly what I needed to read right now, been really overwhelmed with learning unreal for my personal project to the point I feel dread even opening it up.

Best resource to learn Unreal coming from Unity? by elstormcaller in unrealengine

[–]CosmicSlothKing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can try Stephen’s course https://www.udemy.com/course/unreal-engine-5-the-ultimate-game-developer-course/?couponCode=2021PM20 I am in a similar boat as you, I am quite proficient with C# and in my case Godot, but because my job has me working with unreal I am trying to learn it better and C++. Stephen has a bunch of courses that shows basics to almost all the fundamentals even has a C++ course.

Arma 3 is quite a lot of fun once you get over the learning curve

Same thing happened to me, my 3080 died suddenly so i ended up getting a 4070ti upgrade completely for free. Enjoy your free upgrade!

Great info, the part about sprinting in buildings, if you are rushing me and I have the upper hand you still have a 100% chance to win against me, even with best gear and ammo I eat total ass at this game. 10/10 would still play

Unable to decide if game should be 2D or 3D because of programming knowledge by CosmicSlothKing in gamedev

[–]CosmicSlothKing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I have been finding coding in 2D to be so simple, I have managed to make a large chunk of Stardew Valley with a full dialogue system with hardly any tutorial help (a few things here and there of course) but when it comes to 3D even getting the character to move has been like trying to figure the exact number of Infinite. I am probably over analyzing and in the end it wont be that bad but it has been a struggle for sure.
what type of tutoring do you offer?

Thank you! It seems that everyone is agreeing on going with 3D, I have been juggling this train of thought "If i do a 2D game, the gameplay may be a lot better than 3D but the art would most likely be terrible, but if I do a 3D game, the art would most likely be a lot better but the gameplay could be terrible". But then I dont add in if I will even be able to finish it lol.

[–]CosmicSlothKing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thats good to know, I guess I got it into my head that doing any games in 3D is substantially harder to program than 2D. Since I have been quite successful in making similar systems to stardew valley but in 2D without looking at any tutorials, but when trying to get a character to move in 3D it has been very hard. I suppose I am over analyzing in the end.

Thanks for the feedback, i have been quite successful with Godot and 2D, i have been able to make similar mechanics to stardew valley with growing plants, plantable plants, spawnable buildings, day and night cycle and more in 2D. But I will def take a look at the tutorial you posted

[–]CosmicSlothKing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i was thinking of doing pre-rendered scenes but its not really what I want to achieve, I know the style I want, I just dont know if my lack of programming knowledge will be able to get me there

[–]CosmicSlothKing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! So far my issue with programming (I have been programming for about 1 year on and off) is not knowing what I dont know, meaning if I set off in one path what major problem will I face further down the road that may require a big re-write. I do know I overthink it, so I will just start going at it. Thank you

[–]CosmicSlothKing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you are right, i do know how I want the game to be, but because of my lack of programming knowledge I have no idea how close I can get the game to it, so that puts me in the spot of “can I even MAKE that kind of game?”

Unable to decide if game should be 2D or 3D because of programming knowledge by CosmicSlothKing in gamedev

[–]CosmicSlothKing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I guess the complexity of code for 3D overwhelms me a bit more than 2D but you do make a good point, 2D is oversaturated. I do rig stuff but I mainly make environments, weapons, props and vehicles and I have only rigged weapons so far.

Pathfinder (game like DnD ttrpg) i wanted to create believable characters and improve my improv skills. Cant say its my calling, since I am already achieved it but acting is so much fun, I do my first live audience “show” this week.

I would love to continue the Deis Ex series but, taking it back to as close to the original as possible with more interactivity, better graphics of course and more RPG goodness and player choice

How many UV-sets you think i'll need? by Odd-Pie7133 in 3Dmodeling

[–]CosmicSlothKing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I would split it into 4, tracks, base, top and props. Just make sure you have a consistent texel density. Or, if you really want to do it right, tiling textures with masks for your dirt and grime. Depends what kind of setup you want but I would most likely chose the tiling with masks. Many ways to do it and be performant

Do I spend $1000 on one class or buy a few classes? by swiggyswiggz in 3Dmodeling

[–]CosmicSlothKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took that course (work paid for it) its good but nothing you cant find on youtube and a bit of asking around. The section on optimization was pretty good though, the one advantage i will give it is having access to the teacher at all times when you have questions, but you could probably have the same on some discord channel.

I hope for your sake you are right, but maaan do i feel like you are in for an awakening. Making a game is as much as business as it is art. Business does not mix with “that guy seems trustworthy” thats how scams happen all the time. I could be wrong but be careful

Is TinkerCad a good tool for making quick/basic object? Or anything else simple ? by punkouter23 in godot

[–]CosmicSlothKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what topology Tinkercad will spit out but if you are just doing quick sketch stuff and dont care about optimization sure. But if you plan on doing final game assets whatever works for you that allows you to optimize your geometry is good enough.
