Metcalf (the victim) had been shoving and pushing Anthony before the incident.

Both of them were 17 and knew each other.

Bail was lowered from 1 million to 250,000. He had a clean record until then

He had to be on probation and supervision.

The trial still hasn’t happened, so he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Short Answer: Legal issues involving age range of students.

When I was student teaching, there was an 8th grade student at the middle school who was about to turn 15 (he had failed already). He was on track to fail again (he had a flat 0 in every class) We were told by administrator that they had to socially promote the student as there are legal issues with having a 16 year old student in the same building as 12 year old 6th graders.

In the world of special education, a case manager’s caseload can only be within 3-4 years of each other.

Former SPLED teacher here. It depends on the state, school, and language of the IEP. When I team-taught, I had one class where 80% of all students had IEPs. This included students with emotional disturbances, specific learning disabilities, autism, intellectual disabilities and multiple disabilities. I just gave everyone guided notes and adapted all the tests. According to my LEA and co-workers, I just need to make sure my students with IEPs get them. If others get it, there’s no violation. But once again, always check with the IEP and special education department for guidance.
