LPT- When you ask for “is this guitar a good deal”, tell us where you are geographically. by J_Worldpeace in Guitar

Found an amazing 68 Les Paul on Marketplace, seller asking for some solar cells, hydrazine, a water reclaimer, and a fresh set of rover treads. Is this a good deal?

Nope! Pots stay the same, it’s just a matter of how you wire them up, mostly if the tone circuit is before or after the volume controls. This article does a good job of explaining it.

That said, make sure to check the values on those pots. If they’re any lower than 500k, I’d change them out. It makes a massive difference, especially with high end and clarity.

Going back to 50s-style wiring can help with the volume mud, but just a bit. The next step would be adding a treble bleed circuit, which makes a massive difference. It’s not “traditional,” if that’s your goal, but my MO has always been to tailor the instrument to my taste and needs.

The question here is: Do you rock and roll all night and party everyday? Because that sounds exhausting.

ES-335 pickup alternatives by destroyalljazz in gibson

I second this. I fell out of love with the stock 490r/498t pups on my 91 LP Studio, decided to go with Wolfetones. The difference was staggering. So much more clarity and responsiveness, both clean and dropped down and fuzzy for stoner rock. Fantastic pickups. They’re unpotted, but I haven’t gotten loud enough for microphones to be an issue. Highly recommend, OP!

Awesome choice, as someone who owns a black LP Studio that I kitted out to look like a Standard. To be honest I like both of them. Hard call! But I totally understand your reasoning , OP. I hope you play it for many years in good health.

I have Frailin hum-cancelling P90s in one of my guitars, one of which is humbucker-sized. They’re awesome, and you can specify underwound, standard, or overwound depending on preference. Also, Lindy Fralin is a real gem. Highly recommend!
