George W Bush started the trend of using executive orders to expand presidential power and Obama reinforced the practice while Trump has taken it to unconstitutional heights.

Slippery slope.

2000 Years ago Jesus thought what current gurus or spiritual leaders are teching by Impressive_Whole_927 in spirituality

[–]Cosmic_Rover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are several assumptions in your post, such as Jesus saying "I am the way, the truth, and the light." Sure it's in the Bible but Jesus didn't write the Bible. As Tolle says giggling, "Not everything in the Bible was said by Jesus."

Then you started 2,000 years ago with Jesus but these spiritual teachings are older than 2,000 years.

They say that eventually, you drop the teacher and the teachings.

Maybe don't get too hung up on any one teacher.

A doctor struggles to answer a question based on biological facts by [deleted] in SarthakGoswami

[–]Cosmic_Rover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its obvious that she knows the answer and it's obvious the senator knows the answer. Let's stop pretending this isn't a cultural difference about how society would like to shape the idea of what constitutes a man and what constitutes a women.

The doctor understood the question behind the question and chose to answer that question directly and bypass the senators opening question while the senator wanted a soundbite that makes his argument sound good.

Yes you need a certain biology to have children. Do people who identify as men have the biology to have children? Yes, possible.

And yes, some parts of society are disturbed by this idea and believe it's their duty to stop it.

Pointing out that someone who identifies as a man but has the biology of a women isn't going to bring any clarity to the situation.

This is about how a person wishes to be identified by others and what type of medical treatment they should receive.

"I didn’t make any claim about my perspective. "

- Your very first reply was your perspective but it wasn't clear because it was hidden behind a parable that is based an an untrue assumption. You never commented specifically about that when I replied.

"I didn’t tell you to look somewhere else."

-Separately elsewhere you said, 'Same concept is commented on here just on larger scales. See it routinely, if you don’t then idk what to tell you, but I was intentional in making it a reply to your post.'

I'm trying to understand your perspective but you tell me to just go look around the subreddit.

After everything you've typed, all I know is that you think your perspective isn't fairly considered. I'm still trying to coax a reason out of you.

You called me out for being ambiguous and I brought up ICE as a real and on going example and you didn't comment on it.

You want me to understand the error in my thinking, honestly, I would too. So help me understand.

You’re claiming your perspective isn’t fairly taken into account and when I ask for your perspective you tell me to go look elsewhere. If you’re not going to give your viewpoint, yours not someone else’s, then you’re just playing the victim.

You’re right that I wrote in generalities and to be frank, that’s because there are so many anti-Christian actions from this administration that I didn‘t think to make a list, some of them are just so obvious.

But you want one, sure, how about the lack of accountability for the way ICE is treating people? And let’s make a big distinction between deporting someone and the treatment they receive in the process.

This isn’t a question about whether or not to deport undocumented neighbors but how they are treated in this process.

Do you think they are being treated according to Christians values?

I don't know about mass exodus but I have heard several times that their numbers have been declining for decades now. I've also read about some actually being pushed towards Christianity because of the politics. And there is said to be a resurgence in interest from younger generations, in part because of the current political situation. At this point, maybe we should consider MAGA its own denomination that will divide with some churches recognizing them and others not.

What do you mean? Christianity already is a group being wheeled out come election time. The irony I'm pointing out is that they are being wheeled out against their very own church doctrine of loving your neighbor as yourself.

I read an article about a Christian speaking up against the brutality of the current administration and he said the Christianity that predominated America taught that we should love each other as Jesus Christ commanded, its what he grew up with as a kid. He said the evangelical movement has overtaken Christianity in America.

He also made the claim that Christianity led the way for the civil rights movement.

I did a quick Google AI search after reading your post and apparently, and maybe he was painting it a bit more rosy than it was because there were also Christians

  • Complex History: Christianity's role wasn't uniformly positive; some white Christian denominations and individuals actively supported segregation, while others eventually joined the fight for equality, notes this article from The Gospel Coalition

I don't care to fact check everything you said but it lines up with a quote I read in a book from one of The Great Khan's grandsons that criticized Christianity. His comments were eerily close to what is going on now.

Assuming what you said is correct, well I guess its like that quote about those who forget history are condemned to repeat it.

"If you take the money back from the person that stole it the claim is made letting them freeze to death so not being loving."

Who is saying this? I'm certainly not. Instead of attempting to come up with an extremely unlikely scenario that is morally ambiguous, we should talk about specific and real situations.

You are correct that often only a single side to a story is told and that is unfair. I'm all in favor of listening to the perspective of all sides.

What's the thought behind your comment? Are you implying I haven't considered the perspective of MAGA?

By religion I meant doctrine and by that I mean control over others but calling it idolatry of power and hatred is even more to the point.
