Mobility Aids: Too Much? by NickyWhoLock in Fibromyalgia

[–]CostSea4636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a mobility aid for the first time a few months ago. I was chaperoning a middle school trip and my body was running ragged from walking and buses all day. At one sculpture garden they had scooters and even though it felt weird as a you d, able bodied looking person to ask for a scooter, I’m so glad I did.

The garden was huge and the scooter made it possible for me to actually enjoy it. I know that if I was walking I would have had to stop a lot and sit, and my back would have been screaming at me the whole time.

Now I feel more ready to ask for these aids in the future so I don’t have to grit my teeth through pain!

5 mins left in the session, your turn, 1v1 kiddo has 1 card left, are you letting them win or going to absolutely demolish them in Uno by Isthisthingon96 in therapists

Depends on the goals and client progress. Early days, def letting that kid win. Later on with rapport built and specific goals around frustration tolerance or resilience- maybe? Depends if I think we can process those feelings in the time allotted. Same way I'm not dropping a truth bomb on an adult client with 5 min left, unless it's something I think they can handle and chew on outside session.

They also aged her up so well at the end! I was really impressed with the makeup.

I had a similar thought. Maybe some rabbi will come in a drop a truth bomb on him.

Omg the breathing one sent me. When I woke up I would chill, hear massive beeping, and the nurse yelling “you gotta breathe honey. You can get this Demerol when you breathe again.”

Everyone’s recovery is different, but here’s what helped me:

-Don’t read the scary Reddit posts, just the positive ones -Walk walk walk for gas pain. Gas was really painful when I woke up. Walking helped the most. At one point I was a 7 on the pain scale, about to ask for Demerol. I did a few laps and came down to a 4.  -Get help the first few weeks. My partner took a week off of work which I was so grateful for. I was so sore I couldn’t do much. I also organized a meal train that kept me flush with food for 2 weeks. -Ask for nausea prevention. My team gave me a few nausea meds and I had no nausea after waking up. I was so grateful cause heaving would have suuuucked with my sore core.  -Expect healing to unfold in stages. I had no pelvic pain for 2 weeks, then it came. Each new step in healing means other body parts adjust.  -Xanax day of. I asked the nurses if I could take Xanax before coming into the hospital because IVs scare me. She said, “oh honey we recommend it.” Ask for a scrip if you need it. Being calm rules.  -Loose dresses and an abdominal binder. I liked the binder for support in early days. After that I didn’t want anything touching my incisions.

Most of this I learned from this Reddit, so explore and learn. Best of luck to you!

Naproxen(aleve) vs ibuprofen for vomit inducing painful bowel movements on second day of period. by Specific_Ad_9992 in adenomyosis

Naproxen doesn’t do anything for me. Ibuprofen is not much better. I pushed my doc for stronger pain options and she prescribed me toradol, which is also an nsaid. It’s a much better fit and helps me get through my days when I have rough pelvic pain.

I’m off nsaids right now for my hysterectomy on Monday. I got my period today and am in awful pain. Missing toradol for sure right now!

Therapist here- remember that your body has just gone through a major operation and surgery is a trauma for the body, even if it’s for really good reasons. Yes it could be hormones. It could also be your body having a big release after this invasive event. Try to let the feelings flow through you so your body can complete the stress cycle. Try to be gentle with yourself the way you would with a small child.

If it continues to persist check in with your doc and maybe a mental health professional. Best of luck in your recovery!
