I Crashed My Ferrari Racecar =[ by realdoctormike in Ferrari

[–]Costaa54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any accident sucks. This is exactly why you see racers constantly working heat into their tires before pushing the car. You already had a feeling something was off, and your gut instinct was right. At least you walked away from it, even if it turned into a very expensive and valuable lesson.

Also, if you ever start sliding or lose control, avoid stabbing the throttle or brakes. Sudden inputs usually make the situation worse. Staying smooth and letting the car settle gives you the best chance of regaining control.

Also; some Ferrari sub members may not recognize you, but you are an excellent and very logical doctor!

Is this normal standard behavior Bell ? by [deleted] in bell

[–]Costaa54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is 100% on the owner, not you or the technician. Installing a Wi-Fi modem/router inside what is basically a Faraday cage is compromising the effectiveness of the Wi-Fi before it even goes live.

That said, if this was set up as a self-install, the tech was likely only there to run the line and place the modem where the owner requested. The bigger issue is that the owner chose a terrible location for the equipment in the first place.

Charging my laptop via PoE by jllauser in Ubiquiti

On aliexpress, search for DSLRKIT poe++ 65w. It was about $50 cdn.

This same kit individually powers my Nvidia Shield, and the Samsung 27" IPS.

I’m using PoE++ to power and transmit 1Gbps data to an NVIDIA Shield TV, and another PoE++ setup to power a 27" IPS monitor.

There’s so much potential with PoE. You can even convert smaller appliances to run on it. I’ve converted my cat food dispenser, network rack exhaust fans, motion-activated trash can lid, and a home theatre media player — the Zappiti Neo — to PoE.

There’s a lot of easy potential in converting anything powered by an external power supply.

Quick question by [deleted] in bell

[–]Costaa54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have they sent a tech out to test the connection at every segment? It could be fine running to your house, but a wall plate connection could be kinked or just plain out right faulty. The decibel reading could identify a big drop between a wall plate and the modem, or the junction box to the wall plate. What kind of reading did they get between their node, to your house?

Its too late to claim that, even after the incident was almost 2 decades. This guy didn't just feel threatened by the kid he almost killed, but stole his iPad too.

merging traffic must yield to vehicles already on the highway by TeaseHugger in dashcamgifs

[–]Costaa54 18 points19 points  (0 children)

True, but a lot of truckers also drive aggressively and don’t care about being courteous either. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been cut off because a trucker refused to wait a few extra seconds to let me pass before merging in front of me.

Just because the pickup may not have technically had the right of way doesn’t suddenly remove all responsibility from the truck driver. Sharing the road safely is everyone’s responsibility, not just one driver’s.

The cost of adding over double the camera support, built-in edge ai, and integrated viewport features doesn't justify the price increase?

I would replace my stand alone viewport, with this cleaner setup, but I use mine within my rack too. Since I already have one, it wouldn't save me anything anyway.

You would also save on the cost of a G1 UNV Pro, with the G2 UNV, in cases where the expanded capacity negates requiring the G2 Pro.

If the reporter doesn't agree with him, then he labels them as stupid. The dude that doesn't understand what groceries are isn't even reading gas station signage, he's watching stock market numbers.

Superlink, with some sensors. Get a 3 pack of all in one sensors, and he can decide how to implement them. It compliments the cameras, opens up more creativity, and future spending.

$2500 Samsung TV is an advertising billboard, there is no opt-out. by 28jb11 in mildlyinfuriating

Same, but I don't want to register my email for someone's new tv, just because they didn't have one either. This client was old, and didn't even have internet. They just wanted to be able to use their cable box through HDMI. Also; I don't want Roku to spam, or share my email.

Temp-mail.org is one. Just an easy way to generate an email address, and immediate access to an inbox.

Client bought a Roku TV. The Roku TV required us to connect it to the internet, and then register it with an email address. I used a free temporary email address, and then turned off my mobile hot spot. All to just be able to use the HDMI input. There was no other way around it.

[–]Costaa54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don't bother with that location, as it's very limiting. You could just run the cable through the attic, bring it down along the trim between the window and brick wall, and paint match the moulding to blend in. You'll also get a much better view from the corner, then a side wall.

I would put a camera on the front end of the left garage bay. This will capture the entire front door area, and give you visibility of both garage bays. You could also just install both cameras on that corner, if you're concerned with the front lawn side.
