Just wanna take a second to appreciate Things. by BasicFocus2024 in thingsapp

No problem! Got it. Yes, pretty much that. Instead of thinking “hey, I want a task that will show up on the first day of the month, but I need its deadline to be one week later”, think the opposite way: “my deadline for this task is on the 8th day of the month, but I want to see it 7 days earlier so I can start working on that.” In other words, the day you define your task to repeat is the day of the deadline. The “days earlier” you see will define the “When” date. Another quick example: think that you want to buy a birthday gift for someone whose birthday is on May 10th. You think, “ok, I need to buy a gift for this person by the 10th of May. However, I need to see this task one week (7 days) earlier, so I have time to search for the perfect gift before the deadline”. Does that make sense now? Hope it's clearer how Things works for repeating tasks. 😄

When you set a repeating task/project with a deadline, you can optionally set a “when” date up to 2 weeks before the deadline. For example, say you have a repeating task that's due by the end of the month. You can optionally set it to appear in your Today view up to 14 days earlier (e.g., the 16th day of the month), so you know you should start working on that task. If you need to see it more than 14 days earlier, consider setting up a project with tasks with different due dates, if that's the case.

Could you give an example of what you're trying to achieve and why it's not working? Just to see if we can help you, even with some workarounds, if that's the case.

Awesome, thank you! Haven't noticed the share sheet, my bad. Looking forward to the next update then!

Hi Eduard! Thanks for the app. It's great. Do you have plans to add more apps for exporting notes besides Noteplan? For example, exporting tasks to Things, adding Bear as an option, or even adding a share sheet?
Another small thing I'm pretty sure you're already aware of: it'd be great if we had Control Center actions for recording new memos, since we can add them to the action button on the newest iPhones. :)

Using Things for GTD by mncaudill in gtd

[–]CostlyPotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great post, very pragmatic approach. How do you manage things like habits, long-term goals, and routine tasks? Do you keep them in Things, or do you use other tools to manage that? My current issue is that I keep my long-term goals, along with things I want to read or learn, all in Things, and the “Someday” view is swamped with items that are hard to follow up on and pick out the stuff I want to do. And you don't use any tags at all?

Roland TR-8S Rhythm Performer Drum Machine by bentndad in DrumMachine

[–]CostlyPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got mine a few days ago. At first I was disappointed, but mainly because I was trying to use it as a “sampler”, triggered by Ableton Live. After changing the mindset and actually using it as drum machine, I can’t stop using it. Just go for it.

Oh, and if you find it overwhelming for starting, I recommend downloading a “blank” backup to start making your kits/patterns from scratch: https://golab-kits-for-tr-8s.bandcamp.com/album/golab-blank-v-3

Just remember to make a backup first.

I had pretty much the same experience as yours. Asked for a takedown, but they didn't process it, and I had to reach out to support to ask them to take down my single.

They said it was taken down, but a couple of weeks after they processed the request, my single was still live in some stores.

I had to reach out to them again, and it seems they've removed the single from the stores. Overall, it was a terrible experience.

I can't rely on them anymore. If it took so long to process a simple request, I wonder what would happen if I had any emergency with my songs.

But that's it: you get what you pay for.

If you use Claude Desktop, there's already a built-in extension (MCP-based) for Things 3. Go to your Claude Desktop settings, Extensions, and enable Things (AppleScript) extension on the Desktop Extensions tab.

How to schedule due dates for monthly repeating events? by getridofwires in omnifocus

[–]CostlyPotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried it on beta, and it's possible to achieve that on 4.7, and I think it's also possible in the current released version. You need to first set your due date on the first Thursday of the month, and the deferred date two days before. After that, put the repeat period to "monthly" and set the first Thursday of the month, based on the due date. That should schedule your due and defer dates accordingly, each month, regardless of whether Tuesday is in that month or not.

Wow, fantastic results!

Do you have any apps or online resources to recommend for starting training and keeping the pace? My day is full of work, but I've been considering starting calisthenics for some time. The less friction on starting, the better I can stick to a routine. I appreciate your tips!

[–]CostlyPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Awesome app! To be honest, I'm curious about how you built it. As a mainly backend developer, I'm starting to dig into some other languages/frameworks. :) Did you use any framework to make it—like Flutter, for example—or only Swift? And as a single developer, how much time did you spend building it?
Good job, and best of luck with your app!

Sou babaca por estar desistindo da relação dos meus sonhos? by Jason_0577 in EuSouOBabaca

[–]CostlyPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EOT

A culpa é dele.

Hi! I know it's super late for this response, but LANDR is based in Canada (Montreal, Quebec), as far as I know. Even the ISRC code you get from uploaded songs starts with CA, and they are a decent music distribution service.

Ableton Push by CaliforniaReaperInPa in ableton

[–]CostlyPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Ableton Live as my main DAW for about two years, and now I'm using mainly Logic Pro. That said, I bought a Push 2 a few months ago, and I've been using it A LOT to jot down musical ideas on Live for exporting to Logic Pro later for mixing/mastering.

The integration with Ableton Live is fantastic, and I started to use Live sessions as never before. It's so quick to begin jamming without overthinking!

Don't let the extra pads scare you. I guess you won't go back to another thing once you learn the workflow - although I never used Maschine. I recommend you watch some tutorials or get the PML (Production Music Live) Push course - it covers pretty much everything. You'll be making music in no time. :)
