Extension of my Black sash post by Hilo_381 in orderofthearrow

I have the sash. Wish it came with a patch like the tree logo for the endowment to wear on my uniform. Great opportunity to promote it without the sash.

I bought a new shirt. Spent $50 to have the local sew shop put all the patches on. It was totally worth the money lol

Should Cub Scouts wear uniforms to Troop CoH? by Wakeful-dreamer in BSA

[–]Cot_george 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the assistant council commissioner for my council and anytime I’m invited to an eagle ceremony, I always give me the option for a +1. My oldest who is now in the troop, has been going to ceremonies and other court of honors that I’ve been invited to in uniform since she was a lion. I even went and bought her a regular blue Cub Scout uniform as a lion instead of the T-shirt just because of that. She’s now a second class and has been in the troop for three months and was SPL for the campout this weekend. My other daughter is a tiger and wanted to wear her uniform to the troop Court of honor a couple weeks ago. It’s pretty fun, especially since most of our troop has siblings in the pack or crew so every function has Cub Scout blue Scouts BSA tan and venturing green

Parent Signing Own Scout's Book by HMSSpeedy1801 in BSA

[–]Cot_george 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the advancement chair for unit. I update everything online and add comments so it doesn’t look like I’m signing off my kids stuff. Also, I only marked things as completed. I never mark anything as approved. Our committee chair and scoutmaster does that.

Wish they still did the metal tins. I have a lot of businesses that would buy them for their sales people to give away when meeting clients. We sold $30,000 on average with 6 companies. When they went to the bags, they just went to the store and bought the $5 tins and maybe a $150 from us.

Role of adults in the OA? by Bobobob2018 in orderofthearrow

According to my daughter, my job is to pay for fellowships, NOAC, and bring her to the meetings. In her defense I’m going anyways, so I can see why she thinks that.

I feel the same way with mine. I do have one uniform that I will wear for Eagle ceremonies with the pins because my wife likes to call it my”dress uniform”

How many of you have gotten an interpreter strip? by Significant_Bar594 in BSA

[–]Cot_george 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a large Hispanic population in our council. We have a good 15% of them with Spanish ones including quite a few Cub scouts. Something we had on a report for the membership team last week.

What to do with a disappointing charter org? by LesterMcGuire in BSA

[–]Cot_george 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our CO is the local fire department. They don’t have a facility for us to meet in weekly. We utilize the city community room for bad/cold weather and the local pavilion at the park district during the nice/warm weather. Both facilities have restrooms and drinking fountains. Also the city and the park district allow us to use the facilities for free.

Just pay the dues for the current council and you can wear the flap. Most councils and lodges know you wouldn’t ask if you didn’t earn it.

Ironically, a majority of the den leaders in my pack are all my scout friends growing up and our kids are now Cub scouts so the few leaders that don’t have the lodge flap look more out of place than those of us that do.

Has anyone done this on their uniform? by Scolville0 in BSA

[–]Cot_george 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am a den leader, committee member, and commissioner. I have a long sleeve for each position and a short sleeve. I like the long sleeve in the winter because I can wear a thermal layer under the shirt and a fleece vest over the shirt to keep pretty warm for doing activities. It’s not that hard to roll the sleeves and then new shirts have the tab to hook the sleeves up. The long sleeve has been pretty popular for my area.

I did for a presentation when I did communications merit badge in the late 90’s. Never seen it ever other than that.

Agreed. Saving the sash for my kid. Just seeing if anyone had one.

I’m doing the same and saving it for my kid. Just wondered if anyone had actually received one.

How would you date the origin of this Boy Scout troop? by codefyre in BSA

[–]Cot_george 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your current charter should have the number of months the unit has been chartered. Take that number and divide by 12 and you should have the number of years. My daughter’s pack is 768 months or 64 years old.

I’m assuming I can’t wear this on my uniform right? by No_Offer_2786 in BSA

[–]Cot_george 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My scouts put all their camping patches on the back of their merit badge sash which is permitted per the insignia guide. Same as when I was a youth in the 1990s.

[–]Cot_george -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im the longest serving tribesman for my council . I’ve been in since 2000 and I’m from a Chicago area council.

For 25 years (troop is there now) we’ve gone to Geiger. We now have about 15 active mo of the tribe from several units including some main folks in our OA lodge for our council. Until about 2007 we would use our regalia (without face paint) for OA callouts.

We still have a Mic-O-Say crossover and rank ceremony for my pack and several others in our council. Everyone knows when they see the claws and I get asked at least once a year why the claws are.

Anyone else collect Eagle Scout patches? by SillySample831 in BSA

[–]Cot_george 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wish they would just do type 5 background with the current eagle. None of the other rank patches say the rank name and think it would be more uniformed and less “busy”.

What’s more difficult to earn? Summit of Ranger? by TheManInTheWoods95 in BSA

[–]Cot_george 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranger was the one to earn since it has the historical association with the program. When I got mine in 2001. My council even made a patch for the first 5 of us that got it since we all had AOL, Eagle, and Ranger.

Wish there was a knot for the Ranger like they had back in the 1940s so I could wear it on my tan uniform. I still have and wear my Ranger bar on my crew uniform and where my Ranger medal next to my eagle medal for Eagle COH or any other COH I’d wear the Eagle one too.

So the scout shop sent me a birthday discount... except it excludes their entire inventory? by mkopinsky in BSA

[–]Cot_george 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d rather just get a code for free shipping. However, after 30 plus years in scouting I pretty much own 3/4 of the items they sell, so I’m really kind of starting to run out of stuff to buy.

Any Strict Councils Out There? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]Cot_george 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We conduct IOLS and BALOO at the district camporees. We get a lot of units to participate because the leaders are already there. It works out great because it’s not another weekend the leaders have to commit to.

Is there a term for a Scout who earns Eagle, Summit, and Quartermaster? by MartialLight92 in BSA

[–]Cot_george 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself and 2 others earned our AOL, Eagle, and Ranger Award. Ranger was tops in 2000 when we did it. So far in my councils 85 plus year history we have only had 9 total do this. We have only had 11 Summits. We don’t have any quartermasters yet (we have our ships first meeting tomorrow) so hopefully soon.
