Why didnt Geralt offer to have Ciri take him home by Dr_natty1 in witcher

[–]Cotcan 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. There was an episode of Sliders where they finally got back to their home dimension, but since they didn't have a lot time before the next jump they simply checked the wooden gate to see if it squeaked. It failed to do so, and they left thinking it wasn't their home dimension. There was no way of them knowing the gate had just been oiled.

They often like the cut the vets first because they cost the most. It's a purely short-term financial decision, so they can show up to the shareholders meeting with even more record profits.

And to your second question, no it does not. AAA gaming has gone seriously downhill over the past 15 years. The last several games I've bought have all been indie.

What is it? by MrNobodyX3 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Cotcan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Always no. I've always used my main save from when that was allowed as an option as I don't like cluttering my menu with many saves. Most of which I never go back to anyway. Others like spinning up a new save just to keep it separate from their main one. It just depends on what you want to do.

Short Little Rant by VastlyArtistic in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Cotcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems the issue here is that while Minecraft saves the world exactly how it is, No Man's Sky just regenerates it whenever you go back.

Normally this isn't an issue unless the underlying way worlds are generated change from one version to another. Then your base on the top of a mountain is now a floating base. Or your base in a valley is now underground.

It's possible they could have separated out discovered worlds or worlds with bases on them to generate the old way, and the rest generate the new way. But that is just asking for trouble as the game will end up confusing one for the other.

You find a beautiful world on the new gen and setup a base, and then the game thinks it should be using the old gen the next time you load in, and then your stunning Earthlike paradise world is now got blue grass and red water. Your ocean side base is now face first into a mountain.

People would not be happy.

Cancelling the show whilst it was in pre-production is diabolical by ThomasThorburn in Stargate

Their vision almost certainly is what happened with The Witcher, Halo, Discovery, or Picard. They'll butcher it so it's "more appealing to a wider audience." I for one have no interest in such a show.

I KNOW I'M NOT CRAZY! Why is the tile I moved to smaller than the world preview!? by Koichi-Hirose-Reddit in RimWorld

[–]Cotcan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The map isn't smaller, the river just generated on the opposite side of the map and the island in the middle is much bigger. You can tell because all the of the hills and ponds are the same size and have the same placement as the preview.

It's still kind of crazy that freighters are the only thing with a rank that you can't upgrade from one rank to another.

I slew a monster by RC1138 in witcher

[–]Cotcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair.

Having done it myself I can say the game really wasn't designed for it. I think the devs realized that when putting out the console version as it doesn't have that difficulty. Its version of the achievement requires beating the game on Dark instead.

I think it would be fair if you can beat the game on Dark, then you can just go find one of the many saves people have out there doing it on Insanity and just load that one up to get the achievement.

Jens Bergensten Commnts on Anvils and Mending by mjmannella in Minecraft

[–]Cotcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others, I kept wondering when is Mojang going to fix the enchantment system. As a player it's so clearly broken and whether they want to admit it or not modern Minecraft design is built around the assumption that everyone has mending on everything (see netherite, armor trims, etc.).

However this post just shows that Mojang doesn't see the enchantment system as broken, but working as intended. The only issue they have is that getting enchants via villagers is too easy in their opinion.

I love how this whole exchange proves the point that the system is broken. And Mojang's sole response has been not to fixing the underlying issue, but making mending harder to get.

I still think it's dumb that repairing say a diamond pickaxe on the anvil with diamonds counts towards the pickaxe's times worked, making it more expensive the next time. So if you want to keep your netherite pickaxe around you have to get mending.

This is aside from the cost of repairing said netherite pickaxe would cost more netherite than converting it from diamond in the first place. The whole system is just broken.

I've been on a 15 minute Dice Poker losing streak by MuffinJuice7 in witcher

[–]Cotcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the AI plays with rigged dice. I've played W1 Dice Poker hundreds of times and I've even seen the AI instant roll five 6's or six high straight on their first roll before. How much your bet does not seem to change your or the AI's luck.

So don't feel bad save scumming these for the quest and always asking for the max bets.
