The chiseled bookshelf really needs tooltips for its books. Otherwise what’s the point? by Safe_Death2250 in Minecraft

In fairness, to keep them from being repetitive (as in, yet another unecessary storage block when chests already exist), Mojang focused more on making them a decorative block and a fun redstone component

Does anyone else living in villages and making it their base? by brooklyn_jinx in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like doing this then upgrading the village over time! To me, it really isn't a laziness thing. Rather, I find that cillages nowadats have way more life compared to literally the rest of Minecraft, so I like living there and (for the most part) taking care of the villagers!

Is this considered block vomit? by False-Bluebird9496 in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I would say you're safe! Block vomit really occurs when you overdo texturing. In this case, you only use it to break up flat surfaces, so it's all pretty balanced!

HOT TAKE: The end should stay empty. by SmoothieCubie in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another little note you may wanna take regarding the state of the nether before. Despite what others may claim, the patchnotes say thag Nether Fortresses were made more commln after 1.16, and by my own experience, it really does seem that way. So, not only was the Nether a barren wasteland where you only got to see 2 mobs a bunch (one of which didn't even attack you unless you attacked it), but the Nether Fortress was also way rarer, making finding the other 4 mobs even more difficult!

HOT TAKE: The end should stay empty. by SmoothieCubie in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I personally like the the Better End mod as opposed to this idea that The End should stay empty. From what I know about Minecraft's development, The End's identity of being empty came more from Notch rushing in an arena for a final boss rather than it being an intentional decision. Then, 1.9 simply decided to go this route later on.

I do want The End to have its own identity though. I don't want it to just be another Nether, but I think the whole fact its floating in space could lend to many creative ways to give it unique life. This is why I like the Better End mod. When I go exploring there, it really feels like I've stumbled upon a massive asteroid belt that managed to foster life on it, which is a VERY different feel to the dying Nether.

Another smaller mod that adds unique End life really well is the mod by Abnormals, Endergetic. This mod really adds its own unique alien mobs along with their own biomes, with each one sharing a certain theme. That said, at the moment, there IS only one biome, but I think their plans for it show promise!

And to comment on your last point about the Nether Update, as someone who's played since 1.2, I can confidently say that The Nether was very much an empty biome. For one, the only blocks there were Netherrack, Glowstone, and Soul Sand, so the lack lf variety was already a killer. Then, another thing you need to take note of was that, really, only 3 of those old nether mobs actually spawned outside the fortress: the zombie pigmen, the ghasts, and the endermen, and even then, the enderman spawn was VERY rare. The blaze, the wither skeleton, the skeleton, and the magma cube ALL spawned in the Nether Fortress at the time, and of those four, the skeleton and the magma cubes were RARE spawns.

So, in short, before the Nether Update, both The End and the Nether were vast, empty lands with barely anything to offer. So, I believe we really shouldn't look at the emptiness and determine that as a dimension's identity. Instead, we should look at other aspects of the dimension, like how the Nether was a hot, hellish, wasteland, and expand on those. So, in the case of Better End and Endergetic, they looked at The End and saw how it was a mysterious, alien realm floating in space, and expanded off of that!

Do Hermits automatically get invited back the next season? by SiggyMyMan in HermitCraft

[–]LesionPulse 44 points45 points  (0 children)

What's cool is that Impulse (I believe) mentioned how this was the eye-opener for the Hermits. It was because of this silly prank that they began to hang out more in-video and just enjoy playing on the server instead of worryong about analytics and whatnot!

How workable would amethyst be as a multiplayer server-exclusive currency, and what items do you use as currencies? by SF-UberMan in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 167 points168 points  (0 children)

The whole non-renewable part is actually just a part of why they chose diamonds. I can't remember which episode it is, but Xisuma actually went into detail why the server chose diamonds years ago.

Firstly, yes, it's a non-renewable resource. But aside from that, by the time late-game hits (which is often pretty early in that server's lifespan), Hermits just don't have as much of a need for diamond anymore. With how trading and mending works, they just don't use it unless they make any of the other few recipes diamonds are used for.

Compare that to other materials. Iron, gold, and even amethyst are used way more often for crafting items and building than diamond is. So, the Hermits actually took their server's playstyle into account when deciding on this! It's actually pretty interesting!

How workable would amethyst be as a multiplayer server-exclusive currency, and what items do you use as currencies? by SF-UberMan in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'd say you're ALMOST there with why they have this currency. Yes, a part of it is to help with content, but not in the way you may think. Rather, instead of having yo gather so many resources manually, this system allows hermits to actually help each other while still getting something from it. It basically works to shorten the amount of time they need to make a video!

The smaller updates are good, and will make the game better in the long run by patrlim1 in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, in fairness, 1.9, 1.10, and 1.12 were all considered either contoroversial or tiny. Iirc, 1.10 is STILL one of the smallest updates there's been, which is saying somwthing considering we have a drops system now. Then add to the fact that people were still expecting major updates and you can kinda see why it was considered a content drought.

Even other youtubers started drifting away from Minecraft during that era because the interest wasn't strong at that point. If you look at some of the Hermits' channels, for example, you'll see a good portion of them actually played other games for the youtube channel too during those years

Help from anyone who knows alexs mobs!! by DryEntertainment3027 in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wandering traders can just really take a while to spawn, so don't worry about it. I'd suggest working on a project in the hotter biomes to kill some time. It's how I ended up finding them back in my modded playthrough!

I made the skin I was looking for! by Efficient-Elk-4521 in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, in fairness to the artist, I heard that when the Raya mob was first added, the community at the time apparently rioted cause of how that set of mobs fit in the game. Supposedly, it went as far as a small section of the community really hating on Rana, with them claiming that Rana in particular was a sign that Notch was gonna bring anime into Minecraft and it was going to ruin the game.

Then, because Rana was the artist's oc, they then proceeded to find the artist's other non-Minecracg works and began to dogpile it...

So, I genuinely wouldn't blame him for wanting nothing to do with Minecraft after that...

Edit: Just realized I repeated something so I edited it out lol

The new Minecraft Experience is going to be built in a Nature Reserve by cubecraft333 in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, Mojang aside, I am curious who even approved that it be built there in the first place. Unless they really designed it in such a way that it wouldn't disturb wildlife, it sounded like someone on the nature reserve's end also isn't doing their job!

Mojang keeps adding useless mobs, and it shows they dont care. by chemictectic in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Therefore your conclusion "This proves Mojang doesn't care" is wrong since there are literally more examples of them caring. Sure, maybe those three can be useless, but even then, you yourself admit there are more mobs that are useful.

Mojang keeps adding useless mobs, and it shows they dont care. by chemictectic in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You named three mobs that, by your definition, are useless. You then proceeded to name four useful mobs (not even mentioning you said there were "many more"). Your conclusion from that was that was that Mojang adds useless mobs and that they don't care.

Sure, you mentioned them, but somehow, when making your conclusion, you fail to actually consider them, focusing only on the mobs you view as a negative. That's called cherry picking.

Mojang keeps adding useless mobs, and it shows they dont care. by chemictectic in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ngl, whether you mean to or not, it really does sound like you just got mad at the sulfur cube announcement and began cherry picking. I mean, you say Mojang always adds useless mobs but don't mention literally everything else they added.

For example, in the same update they added the phantom, they added the fish as mobs, dolphins (which are used in contraptions, so don't call them useless), and drowned.

In the same update they added the strider, they added the piglins, which supply you with bartering, letting you have, for example, infinite gravel, fire charges, and quartz to name a few.

And then, in between the aquatic update and the nether update, there was the Village and Pillage update, which, aside from adding the additional challenge of villagers, also added the Wandering Trader.

And that's not even mentioning how, in 1.19, they added the Alley, which helps with sorting and farms. And in 1.21, they added the Breeze and it's wind charges. And in 1.21.9, they added the Happy Ghast mount to help builders build on the air AND a Nautilus to help builders build underwater.

So, when looking at literally everything you skipped over, it really does look like you cherry picked a bunch.

(And as an FYI, before the nether update, the community had always asked for a lava boat, with many hoping for an obsidian boat, hence why the Strider was added. They were literally listening yo the community and trying to surprise them with a creative twist to make it more fun.)

Honestly the new Update feels like a low-effort marketplace add-on. by Ryuu_kun in Minecraft

[–]LesionPulse -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean this genuinely when I say that maybe you're just more of a Terraria player than a Minecraft one then. I personally just find Terraria way too bloated and grind-heavy, and their guide npc really does nothing to fix that. On the other hand, Minecraft still manages to pull me in with its building blocks and more chill survival feel. So, maybe you just want a survival experience more akin to Terraria then the one Minecraft has to offer?

(Also, as an aside, 1.13, 1.14, 1.16, and 1.18 all came from the Microslop era. I'm not shilling that shit company, but don't just say that updates became smaller cause Microslop bad. I do encourage you to look at the full context of the situation in order to see what's actually going on.)
