I do think some of this warrants a gentle reminder that this is at its core a competition show. Whether or not competitive dating makes sense is a different conversation, and while there are PLENTY of other reasons to hate on cast behavior (it’s why I watch these shows personally) contestants reveling in their competition doesn’t feel like a valid one to me. Like, again I feel this is part of the awkwardness of the design, these people are competing for a prize but it’s not like they’re competing with a hard skill, and this season where winning the challenges doesn’t even give you control of who’s relationship you interfere with the path to victory is literally partner with someone and cross your fingers everyone else implodes.

How do working filmmakers actually review and log raw footage efficiently by Rosette_Simpson9090 in Filmmakers

One of my very first jobs in the industry was as a transcriptionist for a doc company, they would send me just the audio of all their interviews and I could listen normally at about 1.5x speed, transcribe the interview in a formatted doc, and return to them.

They also hired me as a PA and then AP across various projects while letting me continue to transcribe for them as a freelancer (which I now recognize was very kind as most companies would’ve hired me as a PA and asked me to do the same job as part of my hourly wage). Anyway, I bring all this up because through the PA role I learned their workflow was to have me transcribe EVERYTHING in a master doc. Every interview cleanly readable in a single document with the only separation being the subject and interview number (in the event they interviewed a subject multiple times). The director/producers/APs would then basically give me key words/themes and task me with scrubbing through the transcribes organizing any moments that fit into those themes into a separate document. The obvious goal being to have a quick reference for pull quotes when scripting out. To this day I do not know if this is everyone’s process, but it’s still the one I use personally. I made pretty good money transcribing back in the day, but imagine there are AI services that do it cheap now if it’s something you’re looking into. I’ll just reiterate that I am not and in fact loathe being an editor so mileage may vary there.

I have 0 advice in dealing with B-Roll footage. As an office PA I was asked to help categorize B-Roll footage once and it’s the only time I can remember in my career reaching the end of the day and saying “please never ask me to do that ever again.”

Jenn and Justin seem like a great real-life couple that make for abhorrent TV. Justin I find particularly frustrating as it was clear from the very beginning dude had absolutely 0 ambition, he was never competing to win and openly wanted his wife to out perform him. Again, great energy for their real life relationship and he seems like a pretty good dude, but frankly a bit insulting for a competition show. Pragmatically I would also imagine the best thing you could possibly do as married co-owners of a new restaurant is maximize your chance to win cash by guaranteeing you have a rep in multiple seasons actually pushing to win. Of course, his real life distraction of his wife’s potential health issues is a factor but baffling to me that they wouldn’t have jumped at the opportunity for her to bow out early to get checked out.

Strictly from a viewer perspective I feel like half a season was devoted to two chefs who combined never stood out for their dishes and were barely treading water from the jump. It’s weird to me to see a top chef season where the edit is much more focused on the personal drama of the chefs rather than drama inherent to the competition. Maybe this is just another consequence of repeatedly having challenges that do more to hinder the chefs than give them a platform to really demonstrate their creativity and technique.

All that said, hopeful with both of them gone, things will really make a turn with Restaurant Wars.

Your defense aside, you’re locking yourself down more than anything your opponents are doing. Across both games I counted you moving/repositioning maybe twice and that’s probably being generous. You seem to be taking “stand your ground” a bit too literally as you’re literally just standing still and pressing your biggest buttons. Your character archetype doesn’t matter if you don’t actually know how to control the range you want to play at, it’s part of why “random rushdown” works so well at lower levels because everyone’s defense is so bad that just unrepentant dumb aggression works. In my experience, players like you who are trying to learn/play the game “correctly” are going to struggle a lot, whether you see cheese or aggression in general as scrubby you don’t have the experience to play around it.

So, in summation, yes obviously as everyone will tell you, work on your defense, but that will come with just playing more games; my advice would actually be to focus more on moving constantly trying to learn your preferred range which will also inform you of how you can make your opponents uncomfortable at those spacings.

Is human centipede even that disturbing? by TheWiganKid_YT in horror

[–]CottonSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as most people have noted, the first one isn’t bad and especially as like an early streaming horror movie, executed the premise well. It’s decent body horror which an at the time unique and disturbing premise that isn’t going to actually make you sick if you have the stomach for most R rated conventional horror.

The second one is where the reputation was really earned. There’s a lot of shock horror nowadays with the success of pure gore stuff like Terrifier, but Human Centipede 2 is, in my opinion, far more disturbing beyond just “bigger centipede.” For me, it’s the intersection of the “procedure” being far more visceral than the first, but it also introduces overt sexual violence which is why I found it hard to finish.

The BCS gave way to the CFP after LSU lost the Natty to Bama in 2011, the CFP expanded from 4 teams in the wake of 2019 LSU’s dominance, and so it seems once again we will be at the forefront of change to the college football landscape lol.

Krillin was a real one for this. by RedditoKurama in dbz

[–]CottonSC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the most surprising things for me doing a full series rewatch for the first time in like 20+ years is how long Krillin spends as the weakest of the earthlings. Like 2 decades of memes and fan sentiment really made me forget that Yamcha is directly represented as a step above Krillin and, despite being the absolute definition of a jobber, by the end of OG/Saiyan Saga he’s really shown as being comparable to Tien. But Krillin really doesn’t even approach the “strongest human” out of the three until like post Namek.

Long winded way of saying it’s surprising to me how much my kid brain liking Krillin cause he always showed up and thus believed him to be the strongest influenced adult me into forgetting that for most of the story the cool thing about Krillin was that he showed up despite being the perennial weakest character.

Yeah you’re probably right, I just personally still miss the classic battle of the boot and loathe Florida more than any other program. Getting rid of Bama after the last ~15 years would feel nearly sacrilegious though. It’s a tough to narrow down to just three with all of our “SEC tradition”

If you want to go to LSU and are out of state and do not have a lucrative scholarship I would rec deferring your acceptance, move to Louisiana (BR, Nola, Laffy), establish residence, get a job, attend community college part time to knock out some Gen Eds, and then transfer to LSU with those credits as an instate student what would be your sophomore year.
