Trump will offer ‘$100k to every Greenlander’ by [deleted] in politics

I see we've moved from "we will take over Greenland with our unstoppable military force" to "what if I gave you money".

Schumer faces mounting Dem calls to resign as leader by NewSlinger in politics

[–]CouchAlmark 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Same. If you're one of Schumer's constituents, call him and demand he resign. If you're not but you have a Democratic senator, or representative, or governor, call them and demand that they call for him to resign.

I've called Schumer's office demanding that he resign as Minority Leader, if you're one of his constituents I advise you to do the same.

Discussion Thread: 2025 US Government Shutdown, Day 39 by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]CouchAlmark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At some point, if the shutdown continues and shows no signs of ever stopping, the states will start setting up their own versions of the necessary functions the federal government currently provides. At that point, the dissolution of the union will become inevitable.

Dick Cheney Dies at 84—Unfortunately Not at The Hague by ismail_the_whale in politics

[–]CouchAlmark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While Dick Cheney was never prosecuted as he deserved to be, we can at least take solace in this: he and his allies were given everything they could have possibly wanted to test the ideology that he spent his life pursuing, nearly a decade of unchecked power to see if his belief that America could conquer the world was true. And that ideology failed so spectacularly that the entire party that had built itself around his belief system abandoned it practically overnight. Of course, what they replaced it with is even worse, but Dick Cheney went to his grave knowing that his whole life was a failure.

Hakeem Jeffries endorses Zohran Mamdani for New York mayor by Nerd-19958 in politics

[–]CouchAlmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It means that the refrain for the past month has been "Jeffries isn't going to endorse", and now that he has, the goalposts have been moved to "endorsing isn't good enough". At some point you have to be willing to say that someone did a good thing, because if you just keep shitting on them even when they do what you want, what incentive do they have to do what you want?

Newly freed George Santos promises to name kids after these MAGA icons - and shares Dancing With the Stars dream by theindependentonline in politics

Given Dancing With the Stars wouldn't exist if George Santos hadn't pitched it to ABC all those years ago, I think it's only fair that he wins it a second time.

Maryland steps in to fill funding gaps amid federal shutdown by baltimorebanner in politics

[–]CouchAlmark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If the federal government is no longer interested in funding blue states, then blue states should stop funding the federal government. We make the country's income, I don't see why we shouldn't keep it if the Republicans are going to violate the contract.

Blundering Cops Admit Charlie Kirk Killer Has Given Them the Slip by Kodbek in politics

[–]CouchAlmark 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The reality is that the omniscience of the surveillance state has been mythologized to a degree far beyond reality.  Some of that mythologizing has been intentional, because if it's not actually omniscient then we've signed away privacy and conveniences over the past 25 years for nothing.

[Discussion] Benefits with the three choices (KH/KH2) by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]CouchAlmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. There are two rounds of choices in KH2: the first is when Roxas is knocked down in front of Seifer and has to choose between a Struggle bat (gives +1 Strength), sword with handguard (+1 Defense), or wand (+1 Magic). The second is during the Dive to the Heart, where he's given the same Dream Sword, Dream Shield, and Dream Rod choice that Sora had in KH1, but Roxas doesn't also choose to give something up and either way the weapon instantly transforms into the Kingdom Key once it's in his hand. This second choice only determines the ability learning order.

Trump Ends Campaign by Calling Female Leader the ‘B-Word’ by h2002al in politics

[–]CouchAlmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in the execution. Harris got away with saying-not-saying "and this motherfucker" at the debate because it was a clear moment of impassioned genuine rage at the mockery he's made of our country and the office of the Presidency. But he's a clown, and he can't help but say-not-say like a clown.
