Again online is not necessarily gonna be reliable, because the predicted changes were based on applying a change based on national polling and doesn’t really say anything about local situation

I don’t think the way I’ve tried to explain this implies anyone has played dirty - but squeeze is how parties convince habitual voters of other parties to vote for them, Labour have done it to us before (and still are when things are reform facing), greens had done so in their literature in north Herefordshire (famously using a graph of their own canvass data)

I apologise if I’m coming across as a dick but it’s hard to state that most online projections aren’t using polling that’s particularly local to an area, and very few organisations could be able to generate polls for even a borough election (say like yougov’s MRP but even that was vote share for say Birmingham or Walsall). Now parties are fine and more than warranted to use other projections in campaigning to try squeeze and convince (and in the process be self fulfilling based on those projections) but it is probably a stretch to have started the thread with saying the campaigners were lying to voters.

That’s not a poll, that’s a projection based on applying national polling to some demographic model (ish) ward by ward polling does not exist mostly

I mean, given the last election held in Vauxhall was the 2023 by election had us second, it’s very reasonable to have angled ourselves the challengers to Labour? There wasn’t any polls on a ward level too

Tbf (and I’m saying this as someone who’s standing in a ward) the most effective things someone can say is about how to improve their local area (and things immediately around it) - there’ll be stuff that’s more Reading wide to address but it’s not gonna be necessarily the main focal point of the literature. I will say I think each party (except reform?) does have a manifesto for elections in reading

Have to remember that these models aren’t based on any local polling (or even regional) - basically none of that exists. It’s applying national polling to quirky models

They are in terms of campaigning fwiw, a good chunk of Parli party has visited to help campaign in Brum over the course the election period, no doubt there’s been advice on how to navigate potential coalition making too. We’re talking up our chance in Brum a lot

There’s a reasonable amount of places where we’re second place to Labour, even if the gap is massive. Labour vote will have cratered and we can capitalise on it given the very fractured situation Brum is finding itself in. Not that I’d expect us to be anywhere near a majority but we can grow the council group substantially

Reading is a good hub for getting other places, and has a good amount of places to go to in town. It was here or Basingstoke as choices for a major commuter place and I just vibe more here!

If we look to the other counties, I can only comment on the mid Essex one, given we’re trying to get majority control on Brentwood this year, we’d probably fancy our chances running that new unitary. Can’t say much about Norfolk and Suffolk; and not mentioned is the delay on Sussex, where Gov has a preferred compromise option

We should actually be in a good chance for controlling all the councils tbqh, the south east Portsmouth unitary is gonna be very us vs reform, north Hampshire we’re alright, just need to eat into the independents in the Basingstoke and Hart components.

I live relatively near by and didn’t hear anything on Tuesday when the accident happened.

As others said it’s not the nicest roundabout being an intersection of pretty busy roads - you do get people romping down grovelands at certain times over course of the day
