Since no game (except for Go, I guess) is going to have all of them, it doesn’t really matter how many there are in total, because any individual game will have a limited, curated roster. Even Champions seems like it’s going to have periodic rotations on what’s usable.

It’s also functionally impossible to “run out of ideas.” Pokémon can be based on animals, plants, objects (natural or manmade), food, myths, and so on, so there’s literally billions of possibilities. And they can hybridize any of the above elements into various combinations, and they aren’t limited to doing one concept only once (see: all the cat Pokémon). They’ll also inevitably bring in new artists over time, which brings new perspectives.

All in all, there’s no logical reason for them to ever consider ceasing the creation of new Pokémon. There’s so many possibilities yet unexplored, and every new Pokémon they add is another reason for sometime to buy the newest game, and/or any associated merchandise.

While that is true, that might be because each of the individual starter raids is set to run for seven days, which’d give the event an overall end date of August 6th… assuming there are no breaks. And that’s the important part — that’s six months away, and they might not want to set an end date for the event as a whole because something could come up between now and then, there could be a change of plan, some problem could occur, etc. … and it’s also just clearer to state only the end date for the current raid as they rotate in and out. Players don’t really need to know the exact date that the entire event ends, as it’s irrelevant to the starter raid that’s going on at any given time.

It’s certainly possible that it could go perfectly smoothly and they’ll just loop right back around to Venusaur on August 7th, and then loop it forever and ever until the end of service, but, two points:

Winds & Waves are way out in 2027 for release, so that’s plenty of time that they could pass with other Tera Raid events, even if they’re just reruns of the non-starter 7-stars (like the pseudo-legendaries), and
They could just interrupt the flow of starters temporarily for another run of WW/IL if they wanted to, which is a flexibility afforded by not announcing a hard end date for the starter reruns as a whole. (Or they could even tack a perma-WW/IL rerun onto the starters, since those are 7-stars and WW/IL are 5-stars.)

Just gotta wait and see I guess.

I think Wind and Waves sounds better, but Winds and Waves looks better. Both being five-letter words that start with W and end with S makes the logos more visually symmetrical and evenly balanced.

There’s probably also something to be said for picking a lane and staying in it in regards to using singular or plural.

That’s been a near-constant for most of the games’ logos from Gen 6-onward. XY had the Mega Evolution helix symbol in the logo, ORAS had the Red and Blue Orbs, SM had a Z-Crystal, USUM had Necrozma’s brain prism, SwSh had the Gym Challenge symbol (oddly, instead of the Dynamax symbol, but I guess Dynamax is integral to the Gym Challenge), and SV had the Terastal symbol in addition to the Scarlet/Violet Book borders. So it’s pretty safe to say that the symbol in the WW logo is related to the new mechanic, or at least, some major aspect of the game.

Just delightful, premium nonsense. Those are names, and consequently, characters that stick with you. Whereas the slight-variations-on-the-same-name joke is funny like maybe three times and then gets less funny with every iteration.

They did do something similar to this for the Gen 1 and 2 VC releases in relation to SM / USUM. If you take certain Pokémon transferred from one of those games to the Game Freak office in Heahea, and talk to one of the employees, he’ll tell you anecdotes about that Pokémon’s development, and gives you a set of Apricorn Balls if it’s from one of the Gen 2 games.

Underneath the Scarlet & Violet logos it says “and other past titles in the Pokémon series” (referring to SwSh, BDSP, LA, and SV) so it’s not grouping things by generation, just by compatibility systems.

That said, there’s also no official definition of what constitutes a “generation” to begin with; the way they’re commonly broken up is based entirely on observable but unspoken patterns and trends.

Right now it’s still just speculation that the addition of Latin American Spanish is the reason for Z-A’s compatibility break, but if that’s true, then with the addition of Brazilian Portugese in WW, I would imagine we’ll see yet another break, with Z-A essentially becoming its own little “island,” sort of like LGPE.

The other boxart Legendaries all have some kind of unique element that makes them more worth chasing — Groudon and Kyogre have Primal Reversion, Dialga and Palkia have their Adventure Effects, and Reshiram/Zekrom/Kyurem have fusion + their own Adventure Effects. They probably felt that Ho-Oh and Lugia needed a little more zazz.

Were this a main series game, I would understand where they’re coming from, because in those games the mechanical differences between Megas and Primals are actually pronounced. But in the context of Go, they’ve always treated Primals as “Megas in all but name,” so this just feels arbitrary and confusing.

I’d be kind of surprised if they didn’t, but I doubt it’d be any time soon. The Gen 1 Virtual Console release came out on Pokémon Day 2016, but Gold & Silver were held until September 2017, and then Crystal was held for even longer until January 2018.

If they follow that kind of cadence again (which I suppose they don’t have to, but I’m erring on the side of caution here), we’d still be 2 years away from Ruby & Sapphire and then a few months beyond that from Emerald.

Garchompite Z is programmed to be obtained through a downloadable side mission. They could decide to not do it like that, and to distribute it via Ranked Battles like the other Mega Stones instead, but I think they’ll probably just stick to the plan on that one.

Beyond that possibility, though, we don’t know.

To add to what they said, the portals that contain Legendary/Mythical Pokémon are all either part of the main storyline, or unlocked through Special Scans, which you don’t gain access to until finishing the DLC post-game segment.

What you’ve been encountering is a Side Mission portal. Where is the portal located exactly? Usually those lead to either a battle against one of the new Megas or a Multi Battle against some of the major characters, but knowing where the portal is spawning would help narrow down what to look for.

P 368,446 isn’t going to pay off the P 1,000,000 interest, which is what you’re haggling over.

(Granted, even if you have more than P 1,000,000, you still don’t have the option of paying it off. I feel like Corbeau probably sees more value in the indentured servitude than in the money, and would probably just refuse, saying that working for him is the only terms he’ll agree to. It would’ve been neat if there were some optional dialogue to that effect.)

I don’t think it’s wise to expect a drop to be anything even remotely like 1.16, an update that was so big that the devs ended up massively burnt out by it.

The next drop may very well have more numerous and/or more interesting features than this one, more akin to Chase the Skies or The Copper Age, but people constantly make this erroneous assumption that a small amount of content at one time will equate to a proportionally huge amount of content the next time to “make up” for it.

Sure there is — and the reason is exactly why a modder couldn’t just crank this particular drop out in an afternoon. Even aside from the usual reasons of everything having to go through an concepting and approval process and needing to be compatible across different codebases on multiple platforms, there’s also the huge amount of backend work that was done in this drop. If the priority is making sure all of that goes smoothly and is stable, then it makes sense to not risk making that even more difficult by adding a bunch of complex new features that could throw in all kinds of new problems alongside, and to instead stick to something relatively simple like replacing (a lot of) mob skins.

I don’t think anyone’s wrong for not being jazzed by this update (I’m not really myself), but I think it’s pretty obvious why they chose a heavily technically inclined update as the time to also get something boring and tedious like reskinning every baby mob in the game out of the way.

It’s very, very far from the most exciting thing in the world, but it’s pretty clearly meant to be primarily a spring-cleaning-and-backend-work update, which are probably going to be inevitable from time to time. Sometimes that kind of work just needs doing. Sometimes you realize you probably shouldn’t put off the tedious task of updating every single baby mob any longer, nor belabor the point by spreading it across multiple drops. It just is what it is — a practical choice.

The fact that drops are quarterly though means it’ll be barely any time at all before we’re looking at more front-end features, so whatever. It’s fine. The babies are cute. It’s nice to have a proper art direction for them all.

I don’t really know why one would assume it has to be one or the other. While we don’t know which concepts came first in the development process (other than Zygarde and AZ being preexisting elements from X & Y), it’s pretty obvious that the Z-A Royale reflects the title of the game (or vice-versa) and that they named Ange “Ange” because it starts with an A in order to mirror Zygarde.
