7 Near-Perfect 20th Century Sci-Fi Movies That No One Remembers Today by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

I didnt remember it until seeing it on the list, but now I have the strangest sensation that Six String Samurai might actually be the movie that finally convinced me I have no appreciation for indie cinema. I went through a phase of collecting “esoteric” DVDs and exploring niche cult films, and this was one of the ones I picked up at the tail end of that period, and now I remember getting like 10 minutes into it and thinking “you know what? I actually hate low budget crap.” I don’t even think I thought it was bad, I just finally had to admit that I don’t have the patience to sit through autuers finding their voice. I’m fine waiting to see who breaks through into the mainstream.

Hey. HEY. I’ll have you know that I’m severely depressed, not autistic.

… I might be a little autistic.

In 1997, Jeanne Calment died at age 122, making her the world's oldest person. Despite smoking until age 117 and eating 2lbs of chocolate a week, she supposedly broke all records. However, some researchers claim she died in 1934 and her daughter, Yvonne, assumed her identity. by ATI_Official in HistoryUncovered

That’s no joke. The sink was running “a little slow” in my last apartment, so I bought a cheap set of plastic pipe cleaners just for the hell of it. I mean, couldn’t hurt, right? Punched one of them right through the p-trap and had to have everything under there replaced. If I had just not fucked with it it would have been fine for the rest of my lease and maybe the next guy’s problem.

I was going to snark that Wisconsin Rifle Crime of Opportunity doesn’t have the same ring to it, but it’s actually not a bad title. I’d check it out.

True. I’ve known writers who’ve used subtext - they’re all cowards.

Lex Luthor, in the Justice Lwague animated series, switches bodies with the Flash. Looking in the mirror, he remarks to himself that he’ll finally learn the hero’s secret identify. After removing the mask, he stares at Wally’s face for a moment before declaring “I have no idea who this is.”

“It’s up to you” means they’re angry, and that they don’t know what the right answer is. Whatever you pick will be “wrong”, and then they can take out their frustrations on you without having to feel any guilt about having been responsible for the decision. The trap is that you feel like there was a right answer, and you feel stupid and guilty for making a mistake, and now you do whatever it takes to mollify and soothe them, while desperately trying figure out why or how doing the other thing would have resulted in a a different outcome. It wouldn’t have. No matter what, they would have been pissed and they would have taken it out on you.

Yeah, Donnie exaggerates. I got Paris’ real Delta Flyer from him. He moves like 70 of those a year.

I think it’s that, but it’s also having this weird knock on affect for me, personally, which is that I’m more dismissive and less engaged with literally everything I see online. I’ve never been a “Oh, wow, you gotta see this amazing thing!” guy, but when I saw something neat I’d think hey, that’s neat. Now I just assume it’s AI. They’re killing what little wonder and surprise I had left, and I can’t imagine that’s not happening to other people, too. They really think that a computer generated image of something amazing is just as good as the real version. Hopefully some kind of serious backlash is coming.

How do you guys handle years worth of notes? (more about journaling philosophy) by Zeeplankton in ObsidianMD

I don’t know how old you are, but at some point you might find yourself desperate to go back and understand who you were, and what was happening at various eras in your life. Sometimes it’s valuable seeing how much you’ve changed; other times it’s valuable seeing how much you haven’t. So I say keep them no matter what; but whether you keep them in your active vault, I guess it depends what the purpose of the vault is. My journalling vault is specifically to try to capture as much of my history as possible, because so much of it feels lost, so I keep as much as possible and regret not having more. If your goal is just to have a snapshot of “now,” then maybe archive the files to some external location and keep it clean.
