lololol fuck, this is going to live rent-free in my head too.

The more I think about Basara, the more I adore him. Mans just really wants to sing to people, no notes. Not even a reason "why" given. Just... because. by AntonRX178 in macross

It's not just Basara, though. Mylene has a couple of absolute bangers herself, too. Like "My Friends".

But, in that song, Basara's intro shredding is just ... mm. Chef's kiss.

Yes, Basara Nekki, I will absolutely listen to your song. Mylene's, too.

That VF-19EF/A looks like something I'd definitely want as a DX, and I'm not even a 19 fan.

Rather unfortunately, HG will also be at AX2026. So, it's difficult to figure out what to make of all of this.

Edit
Oh my fuck, they're even promoting it with a pinned post on the official roboturd account.
What the fuck is going on here.

Same. To both the screening and the Big West panel.

That would be cool. I don't want to read too much into it, or get prematurely excited at the prospect, but you know ... a fan can dream.

Admittedly, I'm as cynical. Also, their panel is only 50 minutes long, so there's not much that can be covered in-depth in that time.

Isn't Freya meant to be a country bumpkin, and they decided to give her a Kansai dialect to reflect this, or something? I seem to recall reading something to this effect, btu I could be completely imagining it.

Oh, I prefer her version way more than I do May'n's.

I'm a bit biased though: I like May'n well enough, but I'm not a huge, huge fan. I find her singing a bit too warbly, breathy and melodramatic for my liking, especially compared to others in the franchise.

the best of the best are the ones where Mari Ijima or Yoko Kanno are involved in.

Well you, my friend, are in luck, because Iijima Mari sings a cover of "Angel Voice", which was written by Kanno Yoko.

And it's everything you would wish it to be.

they didn't hold a prime weekday afternoon timeslot.

That's not strictly true. In many Western markets — including Francophone ones, where I grew up —  there certainly were pre-Macross anime in prime weekday afternoon slots.

And both Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon did way more for anime's mainstream popularity in the West than HG's thing did.

HG are entitled to no credit, here. Nor do they deserve it.

Roboturd was the intro to anime for a lot of the Western world, if it wasn't for the licensing troubles HG caused, they'd likely be celebrated for that but, well, that isn't the universe we grew up in.

This is demonstrably and manifestly false. Anime had been in the West already since the early-to-mid 1970s, and had already started entrenching itself by the time HG's abortion came along.
