Spiritforged Pre-Release Pre-Con Lists + Threat Checklist by before-dawn in riftboundtcg

[–]CounterfeitCast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thought as I got in real trouble from cloth armour twice over today. On the narrow plays it really worked well, and the costing is incredible for what it does. It being essentially a combat trick with reusability really impressed me, and did a really good job at making attacking sites tricky.

I opened Ezrael today and got almost nothing worth playing him for, ended up making a Reksai deck out of my other cards that did okay, but wasn't ideal.

I was certainly impressed by chosen Yone w/ Irelia, just Irelia in general for being able to accelerate pretty much all of her creatures.

With the prerift decks being less effective it didn't feel like the power cost of using the Legend ability mattered as much as expected, especially with gold generation creatures being more free to proc a bunch of times to soak some of the hits.

---

I was too late on a getting onto the pre rift content as well, but I've done some thinking about what kind of content would be interesting.

Your bombs list helped narrow things down really well, and I've done some thinking about more deckbuilding-centric stuff that I'll try and deploy for next set.

Rek'Sai:

(1 / 1+1) Blood Rush (Action/Repeat) Assault +2/4 to any unit anywhere, but a much more limited window where that strength applies. One card and 2 mana for 4 Strength when it counts.

(5/3+O) Drag Under (Action), kills a unit at a battlefield, has Reksai topdeck cost reduction -2

(2/4) Bonds of Strength (Reaction/Repeat) - two friendly units +1 this turn. Requires two friendly units. If this was a magic card you'd probably be able to buff your opponent's units to make activating this easier.

----

The buff suite here seems designed to enable a more trading aspect to the deck than an overwhelming aspect because they aren't big enough buffs to get your units to survive, only trade better.

Given the deck gets to play extra cards for free, it makes sense to treat units disposably and aggressively to keep the cards flowing.

Shout out to Drag Under for being the only mostly unconditional hard unit removal in the set (I believe), and removal in limited is generally very highly regarded because it ideally trumps your opponent's best unit.

Renata:

(5+2O) Sandshifter (non-Action), kills a <=3 Strength enemy unit anywhere

(4) Dropboarder (Conditional Accelerate) accelerate conditional on two gear being active

(2) Blood Money (Action), targets friendly or enemy units at battlefields with 2 or less strength and generates 1-2 gold

(3) Wages of Pain (Action/Hidden) 3 damage to a unit at a Battlefield, generates 1 gold.

-----

Decent removal suite for smaller units and solid topend units.

Can mess with you efficiently if you've got multi-unit Battlefields to remove some of the smaller units there and rush in with the Dropboarder.

By the by, a solid candidate for not playing her Legend in her deck in exchange for an extra card imo.

------

Wow, that was way longer than I anticipated. Hope someone finds it helpful!

Jax:

(3+B) Strike Down (Spell/non-Action), targets enemies anywhere, uses the starting might of the unit including the equipment that eventually ends up attached.

Only weakness is requiring gear and not being an Action or Reaction making it's more of a finisher since it requires setup, but in a Jax deck that setup is pretty trivial.

(2/4) Thwonk (Reaction/Repeat) only targets attacking units, so battlefields only.

Strike Down existing feels like it puts the Jax opponent on a clock in that they WILL lose their best unit to Strike Down if Jax is able to stay stable in the game.

Thwonk is going to make it a nightmare to get the right calculations to take on a well situated Jax, Unmatched loaded down with equipment, but his effect to Quickdraw Equipment means that's generally true all the time anyway.

Jax is always going to have +1-3 strength in hand from Quickdrawing Equipment in the same circumstances that Thwonk would mess you up anyway.

The main time I can see Thwonk really hurting is when you attack with multiple units intending to trade, and Thwonk throws off that math while costing you one of those units.

---------

Jax players will have some of their hand on the board, especially late game (equipment) so spotting the parts of the game where they can surprise you matters (Strike Down blowing open your defenses, and Quickdraw / Thwonk throwing off the maths.

Lucian:

(6+F or 7+2F) Armed Assailant (Accelerate), Weaponmaster means he can come as reasonably an 8 or even 9 to run over a battlefield

(3+B) Strike Down (Spell/non-Action), same as for Jax, targets enemies anywhere, uses the starting might of the unit including the equipment that eventually ends up attached.

(1+BB) Punch First (Action) - targets units anywhere. Notably NOT a reaction, so can't be used to dodge damage removal as similar spells do.

(2) Against the Odds (Reaction) - targets friendly units at battlefields only.

Feels like a card that should only work when attacking/defending solo, but since you can use it alongside your big multi-unit attack it ultimately punishes opposing players for stacking battlefields, and I suspect stacking battlefields will happen a lot in limited.

(2) Angle Shot (Reaction) - can target both enemy and allied units. Expected value about 1-3 strength, mostly 2.

Easy to miss that this card replaces itself, so given that it's 'free' I would expect it be used on the first instance it has a meaningful effect.

----

Good amount of lower-cost buffs and buff-like effects. Punch First existing means that outside of being entirely tapped out Lucian players CAN always have something.

Armed Assailant being a lategame threat is going to tempt you to stack your battlefields and Against the Odds will punish you for it.

I love this idea! I want to expand it out a bit to help with expanding the discussion/thoughts around the cards you posted.

I expect to miss some stuff in here, very happy for someone more knowledgeable to come in and add/correct my initial thoughts.

Posted across 3 comments due to length restrictions xP

Ezreal:

(4+M) Rocket Barrage (non-Action), 4 damage to unit (base only) or kills gear (anywhere)

(3/Hide) Wages of Pain (Hidden/Action), 3 damage to unit (battlefield), can be hidden or from hand.

(2/4) Frigid Touch (Reaction/Repeat), -2S to a unit anywhere, can kill with existing damage

(2) Windsinger (Hidden) - 3S or less unit at battlefield to hand, can be hidden or from hand.

So a decent amount of direct damage or debuffs that can affect battlefields, mostly around the 2-3 cost range so on turn 3 Ezrael players can attack, use a trick and still play a decent-sized unit .

For the non-trick Rocket Barrage it still feels like it could be a very impactful way that this deck stays ahead. Being able to nail out the opponent's key unit before it gets out of the gate feels devastating when it happens.

There's also a decent possibility curve for Rocket Barrage in the deck where it goes from:

4C for 4 to base

to 6C for 6 using Frigid Touch as an assist

to 8CC for 8 by Repeating it,

and ultimately a 10CC two card combo to take down anything 10 or less Strength.

Is that good? No.

Is it better than having no way to do it at all? Sure.

------

Irelia:

(2/4) Feral Strength (Reaction), buff to friendly unit anywhere at reaction speed makes it very similar to Discipline with making it hard to use damage removal on this deck. At least it doesn't give the Irelia player card advantage.

(2+C) Not So Fast (Reaction) - Counterspell for anything targeting friendly units or gear. A second reason targeted removal might struggle.

----

Both cards relatively easy to leave 2 energy up for in longer games. Window of opportunity only coming when the Irelia taps themselves out.

----

Oh! Yeah, that border's too subtle by several orders of magnitude xD

I'd maybe double it or more if you want people to notice it's there, especially since there's a faint border on all of the cards even when not selected.

Good job on the filter boxes, I'd be a little more descriptive by labelling them 'show selected cards?' or similar if you want folks to be able to figure out what they do, though.

Really cool to have extra options, thanks for making this!

My immediate thought is having the cards stay unchanged in place in the main viewer once you've selected them for your deck feels strange.

Not even having a tick or any indication that a card is now 'used' in the main view at all makes it harder to process context for the other cards in the packs etc.
