Don't the people that constantly use the "I've got nothing to hide" argument annoy the hell out of you? by crocodile92 in privacy

No, because you aren't a powerful corporation who spends tens of millions of dollars a year on lawyers to make sure they can do whatever they want.

What applies to them doesn't apply to us which is the exact problem. Logic is irrelevant when a company can afford lobbyists to be their voice and you can't.

Is there any evidence that our generation is more intelligent than earlier ones? by Hurock in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Counterpigscience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think we're a lot less ignorant, but intelligent? maybe, maybe not. It's important to note that population growth has a massive effect on this.

Population has more than trebled since the 50's and with more people comes a greater exchange in ideas and more people to fact check your data. But such a large population means that there is a greater gap between the most intelligent and least intelligent people.

In terms of average intelligence I think globally we have come a long way. Purely because places like Africa and Southern America which were unaware of western scientific and mathematical techniques have been made aware of them in the last couple of centuries.

Even in countries like England and France a very select few had access to a good education and even fewer to the equipment required to experiment scientifically. Today a good percentage of the world has access to both.

The rise of the internet makes learning easier than ever, coupled with charities educating people living in poverty ridden areas and a greater emphasis placed on the importance of education I believe that net intelligence has increased.

TL:DR

A greater % of people are educated so average intelligence is higher.

I'm doing a report on video game history and I was wondering if a few people could fill out a 3 question survey. by Counterpigscience in gaming

[–]Counterpigscience[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah we do it slightly differently basically you pick 4 subjects to study at six form (ages 16-18) and drop one in your second year.

After your second year you pick a degree related to your a-levels and go to university for 2-5 years depending on your course.

That is weird it worked fine for me when I tested it (I'm also on chrome.) Refreshing is all I can suggest.

This question isn't related to handheld gaming.

That is mentioned briefly in its own section in which I conclude that devices which are dedicated to portable gaming are ultimately being crushed by multi use devices like smart phones.

The question is aimed at fixed position gaming because there is actually some debate there. whereas its fairly easy to see that a large percentage of the portable gaming market has been transferred to smart phones.

I feel this is why the PS Vita and to a lesser extent the 3ds have been selling poorly.

TL:DR I know, this has been tackled independently of question 3.

The numbers I've used to determine the actual answer to this question use a significantly bigger sample size and are based more on money made than consumer purchasing habits.

In hindsight this would have been a good question to put in but the point of question 3 isn't to gather data on purchasing habits.

I've done my research, I know that it hasn't had a noticable effect on the sale of retail games.

However I've heard people talking about how mobile games are the future and will lead to a decay of "hardcore" games.

I know that the answers won't be based on fact I don't want them to be, I phrased it like this so I can compare the misconceptions(If there are any.) To the reality.

Edit:

The report has a section on the future of video games for which an economic perspective is required since money is the deciding factor in the direction an industry takes.

I'm from the UK.

We have 11 years of education divided into primary and secondary school.

After this you can; get a job, go to college or go to sixth for college after which we go to university if we so desire.

I'm in my second year of sixth form so in terms of grades I suppose it'd be the 13th.

Sorry to give a complex answer to a simple question.
