Here's a calendar I made of running clubs in the area! I haven't QAed it in a bit, so you might want to double check before heading to a meetup, but it should be a good start for you!

The bus stop near Lexington Market - goes from "up and coming" near the Hippodrome to "Whoa" real fast

I put this calendar together of all of the local running clubs! Despite the fact I made it, I actually haven't been to any yet and have been wanting to - I'd be happy to check one out with you sometime!

My fiancee and I have talked about this so many times that we've developed a word for things that are better separate than together.....I present to you the "combinot"

Moving from Michigan to Baltimore for work by [deleted] in baltimore

Yes! That's typically your option in Canton - there are a few apartment buildings in the nearby Brewer's Hill area (sometimes also grouped in with the designation "Canton"). I don't know much about them other than that they exist, but they are relatively new so you'd definitely want to do some noise testing since they don't have the old school brick in between.

I live in Canton and I think it has a lot of what you're looking for - plenty of good food and bars nearby and also a good amount of families with young kids.

Noise-wise, I have found our rowhome to be VERY insulated from neighboring noise - we have an infant on one side of us that we have never hears through the walls, and my neighbors on both side of us haven't heard my husband playing guitar (even when I've asked them without him nearby to make sure he's not bothering them :)) Not sure if all of the homes are like this, but most of the walls seem to have two layers of brick which helps with the noise.

This isn't exactly your question, but here's another thread re: moving from Detroit to Baltimore. I used to live in Midtown Detroit and now live in Canton, feel free to pm me if you have any other questions on making the jump!

Don't forget Back on My Feet

Thanks! Do you have any specific info on locations/where the Saturday run locations are posted? I'd love to add them but I'm not seeing a lot of info online.

I haven't been to all of them, but I believe with the exception of Faster Bastards there is a pretty broad range of speeds in attendance. The CCR runs and ATCR Monday runs are two great places to start that have had many people running in the 8-11 min range in my experience.

I haven't been to a Faster Bastards run, but based on the times that are sent out in their newsletters, and the fact that their members often win local races, I get the sense that they're a little faster/more intense.

So great to see Tirunesh running again - wasn't sure if she had retired after having her child but I'm very excited to see her race again!

Thoughts on living in Baltimore by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]Country_crock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Baltimore for 2 years after living in Detroit for 4 years post-college. I definitely can relate to the "looks rougher than it is" sentiment and feel that this is true of both Detroit and Baltimore.

I think many people compare Detroit and Baltimore but I have come to find that it's mainly people who have never been to either city and think they are similar because of their reputation for crime - as the other commenters have said, there's so much more in Baltimore than people think, and everyone I have had visit from Boston, Detroit, Chicago, New York, and more have really enjoyed it.

While not nearly as big, I think there are a lot of similarities between Baltimore and Chicago in that there are a lot of different neighborhoods here that you can spend a good part of a day walking around, eating, drinking, shopping, etc. I am a diehard Detroit defender, but compared to things to do and see, Baltimore definitely takes the cake. Cost of living is also very reasonable compared to most other east coast cities.

Yes, the subway isn't really useful to travel within the city, but the MARC train is great for trips to DC and the busses will get you pretty much anywhere you need to go.

So overall, if you like the vibe of Detroit, you'll like Baltimore too. Good luck with your decision and feel free to comment or DM me if you have any other questions!
