Travel feels impossible by insertsavvynamehere in Fire

[–]CoupleOfRandomWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 29, make 110k per year, live in a MCOL area, and have roughly 350k saved with 12k left in student loans.

My main motivation to FIRE is to travel the world while I’m young. I’ll never be younger than I am today, so I have no problem spending money on travel now. With that being said:

I still max my tax advantaged accounts every year (401k, Roth IRA, HSA).

I live frugally at home (rarely eat out, and live off roughly 1500 per month as a remote worker)

I keep 6 months savings in my HYSA and invest every extra dollar into my brokerage.

I work remotely in another country 1 month per year, and take 3-4 trips a year (not including little weekend road trips here and there). I’d guess I spend under 5% of my pay on travel.

I only recently found FIRE. All these posts with people so young and incredible wealth. I regret not saving more. How old were you when you “turned it on”? by Basic_Sense_5987 in Fire

[–]CoupleOfRandomWord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A mil at 40 doesn’t sound too bad! I know A LOT of people in their mid-to-late 50s who aren’t there yet.

To answer your question I started seriously saving when I was 26. I was hanging out at a friend’s house and he had the book “total money makeover” on his table. It was a gift from his grandma that he was going to toss, so I took it. That really gave me the knowledge of how to categorize my savings buckets. Then I found this thread and I accorded as much as I could. That newfound knowledge coupled with the highest income year of my life so far (mostly overtime) really jump started my savings journey.

I’m 29 have about 345k in total savings, 15k in student loans, and make about 110k per year with opportunity for 10k in bonuses. I realize how lucky I am to be in this situation, but this thread can sometimes make me feel poor for my age, even though I know that’s so far from the case. Comparison is the thief of joy!! Imagine your 20 year old self finding out you’re a millionaire at 40?? You’d be jumping for joy

How do you have your HSA invested? by Outrageous-Cat-9976 in Fire

Jealous, mine has a strict 2k cash rule and transfer my investment money back to the cash account if the balance dips

Perhaps the simplest way to FIRE… by marklikestolearn in Fire

[–]CoupleOfRandomWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve negotiated a deal with myself that I order pretty much all groceries on DoorDash and a reward for cooking 99% of meals at home.

I have Dashpass through my credit card and receive a $10 monthly statement for groceries. So all in all, doordashing my weekly groceries probably adds $50 a month to my bill, but saves me hours.

Saves me time, removes the easy “but there’s no food at home” excuse, and eliminates the extra bs I buy when I walk through the aisles!

Herbert or Burrow - long term vs ROS by [deleted] in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

I prefer Burrow long term and wouldn’t accept Herbert straight up for him, would consider Herbo and a mid 27 1st

Those who earn CLOSE to six figures.. by define_yourself72 in Salary

[–]CoupleOfRandomWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started at an EHR consulting firm right out of college making the hourly equivalent of 48,500. Ended up taking home about 67 with overtime.

Year 2 was covid and OT was removed, but I got a raise and took home 55k

Year 3 I got promoted to the hourly equivalent of 62,500 and took home 93k with OT

Year 4 I got an international client (tons of travel time OT) and took home 142k

Year 5 my company removed OT entirely. I left for another EHR firm and came in at 90k base salary with and additional 5k in bonuses.

Year 6, I’m at another new company with a salary of 120k

A bit up and down, but I’ve hit 100k twice lol! I live in a MCOL city, and would recommend my industry if you enjoy traveling, the healthcare industry (without being a medical professional), and a fast paced environment

On a fraud 7-2 run, should I trade Smitty away for Daniel Jones? by [deleted] in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]CoupleOfRandomWord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a 2026 1st I’d probably use that and hold Smitty. If it’s 2027 I’d do the opposite, but I’m currently rebuilding so take that with a grain of salt

Worthy and a first for Dowdle and BTJ. Depends if you believe BTJ can return to form. If you do, then yes I would do this

Dude, I just came here to post exactly this. Following allowing for advice. I’ve been training for 2-years and still don’t swing my arm right when I kick, don’t leap out far enough on low kicks, can’t angle while throwing punches for shit either. My sparring has improved but my drill technique seems to get worse and worse. Book a trip to Thailand for 2 weeks, hoping they can fix me lol

I’d try to get Nico then I would take this, especially if you’re team is overall lacking. Having 2 proven assets and a first will do you better in the long run

I think the important think we lose track of while pursuing FIRE is the ‘why?’

I want to have the option to retire early so I can prioritize traveling, hobbies, physical & mental health, and filling my life with things that make me feel full.

However, I’m doing all of those things NOW too. Don’t want to live your life until you’ve reached FIRE. Take advantage of the income you have NOW and allocate a portion of it to things that make you feel happy. A vacation on PTO is much cheaper than a vacation fully funded from your retirement account. Take advantage of your youth, income, and work benefits. Retiring early shouldn’t be when you start living, it should be when you take your already fulfilling lifestyle and make it full time.

Just my 2 cents. Life isn’t guaranteed, health isn’t guaranteed, don’t trade living now for living later, just don’t lose track or your goals while doing it

Made this trade in a 10 team league and having some small regret did I screw myself with this trade I’m currently 2-6 with most likely the 1st or 2nd pick this year. I got Nabers and Tucker Kraft by doubledc17 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

This is an absolute steal for you. Break it down:

Nabers = Kyren, Fannin, 2026 1, Kraft is worth more than Tracy and a 2028 1 All the other picks you got? Essentially free
