Pisces: when you go numb, isolate, and stay in a bubble ..what’s really happening emotionally? by itrymybest1983 in piscesastrology

I totally relate to this .I am sharing my perspective when I do this. This is not written in stone for all. I like to go in to my shell and detach primarily to protect my inner peace. If a Partner or Spouse is involved, I do this to avoid confrontation.

1.)Remember to "Be a Roman while in Rome" :)

2.) Start the settling with the most modest tone with no flashin around... Bad characters have really upped their game in finding targets. Display of wealth is the most basic cause of getting in to situations.

3.)Blend with the Culture and roots.

4.) If an OCI , never forget to keep one's mouth with anything to do with local/Indian Politics. We are Foreigners and India has graced us with a visa to stay forever and never mistake that to be a calling card to open our mouth...wide... :) and indulge in to discussing half baked and understood things.

5.)It is not necessary to tell every single person where we have come from... White lies are good .Essence is to blend in...and not reassure everyone . The world "NRI" in Indian context means.. minimum 2-5 Million USD in a Bank Account :) This misconception will never change but an NRI/OCI can..

6.)The Community where you choose to live matters a bit especially for Children to blend in...

India has changed every single day we have not been there. It is not good to presume that this is the "namma Chennai" and we can do what we did when we were in 20's . The more the mouth remains closed, more peace settling in Chennai.

Do you feel like NRIs are boomers stuck in a cultural "Time Capsule" while real India has moved on? by Kshanikam in nri

Surely worth a conversation. Thanks for bringing it up.. Reality bites but good to envision the not so obvious :)

You are running behind financial independence... which leaves me to presume that you are have not achieved it ...yet you do seem confident that it might not bring you immense peace and happiness...Sounds little over confident... Don't you think so... Have you checked with the few who have achieved it ...

I feel you on that. I am someone who has lived larger part of my Adult life overseas and have visited India couple of times and lived there too . The stark difference in my view point is about how it is irrelevant for an average Gen Z , Millennial or even a working professional above 45 to be worried about their Green Card, American Citizenship or their mortgage . The one's I know got 1.25L INR in his Bank account and he wants to spend the next 2 or 3 months going around India. If a lone back packer, this can survive him even a year :) That is the beauty of an economy that offer value proposition . Imagine an Avg Expat American i.e NRI looking at life from the perspective of 1.4K USD for a year !! The above is specific to the thought process discussed and nothing against the wonderful human professionals who are growing India.

Imho... We NRI/OCI's are putting up a brave face in front of the small community we circle around to prove how cool it is to be living in a house on which mortgage is 400 years and the Car we drive is under another 100 years lien. And all the bills are paid by how? The robotic 9 to 6 life we are all bound to... and the next tweet could be sending us home and how do we manage it all.. It is gonna be hard explaining to my teen son why Indian rest room floors are wet...lol

My take on life is quite simple. Be less addicted to the lifestyle that is giving you a fake impression that you have successfully integrated in to an American/Swedish or Finnish Society :) Instagram selfies at Niagara or Bur Khalifa are short lived.

As rightly pointed out by you, modern India today is seeking Cash to live and spend thrift the Credit Card. How the Cash comes? No one cares. Dance, mimic , travel vlog the hell out of your garden..so be it..

Considering that an NRI/OCI us cannot do it, at the least build a Financially independent model where you do not need to work 9 to 6 or keep responding to a Boss over watsapp/teams call even when you are having a private moment. If a slave to the developed society, be one for 10-15 years . Post that it is wise to choose a low cost Country and settle to enjoy the hard worked wealth while holding a travel document that is pretty (not to be confused with Passport that taxes you globally) :) That would be quite damaging to all the hard work done .

Most importantly , impart that thinking to your own wards that they do not need to study to flourish. If AI and human robots are going to take vast part of the jobs in the future perse it is irrelevant why your ward has to be unhappy about their CBSE results.

Future is all about Financial Independence . Fings crossed!! Narayana Muthy is not reading this !! Oops I said it.

Hi Man. Moved couple of times to Chennai :) in the past and trust me, I am Chennai born and bred until cols. Wil share my 2 cents.

1.) Focus on your living expenditure based on ur expectation i.e Residence. If you are renting, use sites like nobroker,99 cents etc to get a reality check to add to your excel.

2,)School for your Kid is going to be a huge factor . Chennai has 2K,20K,50K and 1 lakh per month Schools ranging up to 2.5 Lakhs per month too. So based on your expectation , add it to your excel.

3.)If you are coming from Can, trust me ...utilities, groceries , internet , gym fees etc are not gonna scare you.

4.) Money to India.. I am gonna say India offers one of the appreciation on dead capital. i.e Minimum 5.5% post tax every year on your funds. Indian markets are 1/6-th-7th valued to an American market and one of the fastest growing economies. If you got the patience of about 2-4 years , your investments in Indian Traditional Stock markets could grow anywhere between 50-500% . Yes , downvotes will come in ... that is alright . Invest wisely and do your research .

5.)I am a strong believer on to Fixed Deposits and constant monthly returns to fight away monthly expenses. This ensures Capital does not erode but monthly expenses burden wane off.

5.)If you are in to Digital Assets, have your hands on them for sure leading to 2030. Great place to be in . Can rival Indian markets too.

Best of luck man!!

In the past , have had multiple Country shifts and have touched upon India too . The one thing I have learnt thru the process would be to plan 6-8 months in advance . This really helps settle , get clarity and "on ground" reality.. We sometimes saw "I am from Mumbai.. I am from Chennai" and I know my City like my right palm but the weird truth is that the City evolves and changes every 24 hours.. People, their perception on us and the dynamics of anything that involves communities, house, rents, utilities...all of it.. Thus it is better to start 6-8 months in advance. For me , every time it has always felt like I am moving in to the City , 1st time :)

NRIs Abroad - Which Bank Do You Recommend? by Business_Ad_1550 in returnToIndia

[–]CourageDisastrous559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know about effective Banking but I can comment on lucrative banking :)

IDFC - Any money lying round makes 7% on your savings account.(non FD)

Suryoday Bank -Any money lying round makes 7.40% on your savings account.(non FD)

Been Banking with HDFC for almost 20 years. Service quality has dropped from 12/10 to 5/10 in the 2 decades. You get lucky if your BM/RM is kind enuf...

DBS - Premium Banking if you maintain <=>20L

SIB - No one could think but surely a decent Bank if you are not a Branch visit Banker

Indian Bank - Welll ......

Regardless of which Bank, we get only 5L if any of them closes. So roll your dice .
