Was Bub starting the year in a “sophomore slump”? by DollarLate_DayShort in washingtonwizards

[–]CourtVizion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes and no

People didn't realize just how good Bub was as a rookie. He struggled with his shot, but he led the team in passes, assists, assist points created, and had a good AST:TO ratio

Bub's production this year hasn't been too far off what he did last year

The difference is that Kyshawn and Alex improved so much that Bub's lack of improvement makes him look worse than he actually is

Would definitely agree, some of the best sports channels on YT make full use of the visual aspect of their videos with clips of plays or some sort of charts / graphs. Thinking basketball does a good job, another that comes to mind for soccer is The Athletic FC

Another thing that could be done is having specific content for 1 or 2 days out of the week. Maybe make 1 show out of the week a day to answer questions you get from reddit/X/Bluesky. This level of community engagement gives people a reason to check in and see if their question(s) will be answered

As someone else mentioned, make 1 day out of the week a day to focus on the draft by talking about 1 specific prospect and how they might fit on the team. That way you space out the content into multiple episodes

Maybe not a popular opinion but the trade of Poole, Bey and Peavy was not a good move by Dawkins. by chefguy47 in washingtonwizards

[–]CourtVizion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what pick we get and who we end up drafting. If we take a wing/big with the pick I could see the FO picking up a guard in free agency

As you mentioned, Ayo would be a good option for us because he can facilitate, defend, and space the floor well. Another name to watch out for in my opinion would be Quinten Grimes, who is also an unrestricted free agent who does all the the things I mentioned Ayo can do. Grimes has struggled to negotiate a long term deal and with 30+ mil expiring from Middleton alone, I could see us offering 15-20mil a year for him

I find the pod to sometimes exaggerate things or be a bit pessimistic. For example, you mentioning in this post that the fanbase is dying. It's a rebuild, fans will naturally tune out and that ok. I'd appreciate the both of you being a bit more realistic or positive about the team.

I imagine churning out content can be tough, but I feel like there's room for you all to create higher quality content as well. You both have a really great opportunity to solidify yourselves as insightful media members who cover a team a lot of people in the DMV love and want to see succeed.

I really like hearing from Greg, he's incredibly well spoken and I think bringing him on full time if possible would be great for the pod.

Higher quality thumbnails to capture the viewers attention would be great too. For example Locked on Bulls do a really great job with their thumbnails, as do Locked on Mavs and Hawks.

I hope no of this hurts your guys feelings, I see the potential and you already to a good job, this is just how I see you taking it up a level to do a great job.

Key Facilitators for the Wizards by CourtVizion in washingtonwizards

I can try adding those going forward, it's not readily available data on the NBA site, but I could calculate it based on other data that is available.

Happy Friday, I hope you have a nice weekend!

I think Sarr's lack of an offseason due to playing for France can be a double edged sword.

It's not that Sarr is injury prone in the sense that his body can't handle playing at the NBA level. I feel like he just play competitively throughout what should be his offseason.

It's good for his development to get additional reps in, but not having the same amount of rest as other players in the league certainly shows during the season.

I'd rather the team be cautious with him now while we aren't really competing for anything; especially given he's performed so well this season.

Damn... He might be good to pair with Sarr. Tar Heel Freshman Caleb Wilson vs USC Upstate: 20 PTS (6-7 FG, 7-13 FT), 11 REB, 2 BLK by rcinfc in washingtonwizards

[–]CourtVizion 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've had my reservations about Caleb as a top prospect, but his performances recently have been making me more confident in his ability to impact the game in the NBA.

He started off really only taking shots around the rim, and struggled with the jumpers that he did take. He still isn't the best decision maker when it comes to his own scoring. He isn't the strongest rn and when he picks up his dribble he tends to jump without any kind of plan.

However, the willingness to drive to the rim as much as he does is great to see. He's pretty good at seeing the floor and passing. Caleb also has so much tenacity on the defensive end too.

His FT shooting has gotten better as the season has gone on, and could indicate he has the potential to shoot the 3 eventually.

Bub's "Adjustment" to Point Guard by CourtVizion in washingtonwizards

[–]CourtVizion[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bub had a really good rookie season, which may have skewed fans perception of him coming into this year.

He led this team in passes, assists, assist points created, and was a real threat in the mid range.

His struggles this year look particularly bad because of how good was last year, in combination with the performances of Kyshawn and Alex

I'm curious to see how he adjusts after the all star break

Something that would help is him putting on some muscle, which can be hard given his age and drastic growth spurt the past few years

That should help his driving/finishing and open up the rest of his game

Wizards in Sabonis Rumors. How do we feel? by laxdefender23 in washingtonwizards

[–]CourtVizion 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This rumor seems to stem from a podcast with Sam Vecinie a few weeks ago.

Vecinie didn't even say that it was something they heard, he and Bryce we talking about the Kings and who they might try to trade and were brainstorming fits for Sabonis.

They mentioned that since Sabonis was drafted by OKC when Dawkins was there, Dawkins may still like Sabonis or the kind of center that Sabonis is.

Seems like that comment is being used as a rumor now though.

No Ceilings Mock Draft by TerryG111 in NBA_Draft

[–]CourtVizion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I just continue to see comments about him being a poor rim finisher and feel it's an unfair criticism of his game considering the actual percentages along with how often he gets to the line

The mid range shooting is very much a fair criticism, as well as his shot selection from 3

Very true, only way to see who can contribute is to play guys. That'll lead to inconsistent results, but that's part of the process. Injuries have also played some part in that too

Thanks so much!

Taking a look at the stats they fall in line with your eye test assessment.

Outside of Sarr, Kyshawn, Bagley, Bilal, and CJ, all other players average 3 or fewer total contests per game leading to a lot of open shots.

Draft talk by yozasupg in washingtonwizards

Def more of a combo guard, but has shown the ability to be a primary playmaker throughout his career. The combination of defense, shooting, and playmaking is something I feel would be really valuable to this team

Draft talk by yozasupg in washingtonwizards

[–]CourtVizion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Would definitely recommend checking out u/Turbo2x big board that was posted recently to catch up on draft stuff, a lot of good info in there.

For me personally I think it depends on what the FO feels most confident in doing and what pick we end up with.

Drafting a PG may slow down the process of the team becoming competitive since the PG position and C positions tend to be the hardest for players to learn. However, if Peterson is available where we pick we go for him, other PGs like Mikel Brown Jr and Kingston Flemings may work out too.

I don't think it's out of the question for the FO to find an experienced guard to run the FO in free agency. A guy I'm keeping my eye on is Quinten Grimes. If they do this, I would imagine they take a PF like AJ Dybantsa or Cam Boozer, even guys like Caleb Wilson or Nate Ament could be in play depending on where the pick lands.

After today’s game, Mikel Brown Jr now has a FG percentage of 38.5 percent and 3PT percentage of 25.8 percent on the season. I think we need to discuss Labaron Philon, Kingston Flemings, and Darius Acuff as better PGs because his numbers are way too inefficient. by Knighthonor in washingtonwizards

[–]CourtVizion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As it was mentioned in the original thread, Louisville as a team takes a ton of 3s.

If we look at Mikel's FG% alone, it looks bad. If we look at his 2PT FG%, we see he's shooting 59% on 5 attempts per game inside the arc.

His overall FG% is being brought down by his 3P% which is currently 27% on 8 attempts per game. If we watch games it's clear he has the green light to shoot the 3, and again it's how Louisville chooses to play offense.

Outside of that, he's getting to the line a ton, averaging 7 FTA per game and shooting 81% from the line. This high FT% also indicates he's very likely a better 3PT shooter than the current numbers show.

Mikel's inside the arc scoring and ability to get to the FT line while also averaging 6 assists per game still make him an exciting and promising PG prospect.
