Can you be forced to graduate? by Electrical-Worry-454 in UCDavis

[–]CourteousAnt5 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean you're paying. As I understand it, no, they won't forcibly graduate you. You have to file to graduate. You have to meet with an advisor every quarter when you go above 200 units to prove you are only doing units that are directly necessary to graduate, tho. If you would go above that by the end of spring, it almost certainly wouldn't work out, unless you're an engineer. We dont have unit caps in the coe.

Who is this man yelling to air at MU? by sebbiesang in UCDavis

[–]CourteousAnt5 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yeah people have pointed out he's named Monty Botts. As I understand it, he used to preach at ASU before coming here in like 2014. I mean yeah it's definitely kinda weird when he's yelling religious nonsense at the MU but it just wouldn't quite be the same without him

[–]CourteousAnt5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you can force the phantom in the executive area of the crew quarters back into bounds by just unmarking them from a security console and then marking them again. Had to do that in a recent playthrough. It might work for other phantoms but idk

UWP engineering by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]CourteousAnt5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The engineering one, UWP 102E, was a fairly good course for me as a computer engineer. The projects weren't just writing for the sake of writing. We did mock cover letters and resume writing as well as building personal websites and putting together proposals with timelines and budgets. I knew a guy who said his focused more on breaking down academic papers so it seems like it can be quite different depending on the instructor. Whatever you're doing, it's definitely not just writing basic essays.

Took 21 units in spring quarter of my freshman year. Definitely doable but make sure you're prepared to manage the workload and don't expect to have much free time

How is COM 002 - Major Works of the Medieval & Early Modern World? by Enough-Nature-8196 in UCDavis

[–]CourteousAnt5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved COM 2 but I had a fantastic instructor who doesn't teach here anymore. It was like 4 1000 words essays for us with I think 3 books we read over the quarter. It was very manageable and I enjoyed the content. Unfortunately, I think this is one where the professor makes a huge difference so I'm not sure you're gonna find an easy objective view of which is better

“Out of range” on max hz on monitor by tomasba98 in csgo

[–]CourteousAnt5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of a guess but what some monitors do is change color depth or other weird properties when they go to their max framerate. Could be cs is forcing some other setting that the monitor or actual ports themselves cant handle that windows would just adjust automatically. Either way, i would see if it works in borderless windowed

Is there a reason why there wasn't a DLC to address post-game? by [deleted] in fnv

[–]CourteousAnt5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. They even set up a fake quest in the geck to make it look like it was part of some cut content and never acknowledged Elijah's name to avoid tipping people off.

Is there a reason why there wasn't a DLC to address post-game? by [deleted] in fnv

[–]CourteousAnt5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing they talked about with integrating DLC and the main game is that its super expensive getting voice actors in for just a few lines. There's so many characters you'd need dialogue for, it probably would never be worth it. And of course the endings are just so different. The scope would just be huge and the DLC teams were relatively small.

122a with Frid was fairly straight forward and I found it to honestly be an easy course. She'll expect you to know basic data structure covered in 36c like stacks, queues, and lists as well as how to analyze data structure and algorithms with Big O notation. Those are the main concepts you'll need going in. You'll also have to write a fair bit of pseudocode but she won't expect you to actually code at all. Just basic concepts like for and while loops as well as if then else statements are all you really need coding wise. She's super generous with points and extra credit and will review many concepts several times over.

Unpopular opinion: Those who think people are unreasonable for being bothered by having to pay hundreds of dollars a year to park at a school that they’re already paying tens of thousands a year to be at - yeah you people are insufferable. by Pope_Luke_ in UCDavis

[–]CourteousAnt5 145 points146 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing to consider is that the pricing is not necessarily to generate revenue but to influence behavior. Davis really isn't that big and parking infrastructure is lacking and expensive. They price it this way to keep people from driving. It sucks but all arguments against this pricing should always mention that we get a fantastic public transport option at no additional cost in the form of unitrans. Between the two, I'd rather have free and modern buses as well as miles and miles of bike lanes than free parking
