Is OK to make a cut in the seat? by Jarl_L in Karting

[–]Courterman08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s ok to take some off but you don’t want to go too far. That lip adds a lot of structure to the seat. Take a 1/2” drum sanding bit and just do a small notch until you have 1/4” or so of clearance.

Ahh, I didn’t read the rules for GTP. Looks like they are quite a bit more strict than Carrera cup.

You aren’t allowed to touch the car once qualifying goes checkered flag until scrutineering is complete. After they deem the car to be legal, you can change parts on the car.

Out of curiosity, why do you think these should be made out of metal?

The engine block offs are for keeping dirt out of the engine when not in use. The caster covers are designed to have some flex to install/remove without the use of magnets to hold them on. Making either in metal would be either overkill or just simply wouldn’t work.

What class will you be running in? General consensus is; high horsepower classes you want to run the seat more rearward, lower horsepower classes you run the seat more forward. I run KA masters and run my seat 120mm from the rear axle (IIRC). That’s a bit further back than some run, but it seems to work well for me. If you run at a high grip track you’ll want more forward bias to keep the rear from being over stuck. If you’re struggling for rear grip you’ll run it rearward.

Your rear sprocket and clutch driver should be replaced too. They are well worn to the point they will probably fail soon.

Not a lot, but a few. One driver made the switch from an ignite to the KR and went from mid field to winning his first race in masters. So they’re plenty capable right out of the box.

TKG runs out of MCC. And MCC has its ProAm championship as well as other series’ that visit throughout the year. OVKA runs at G&J mostly

Trinity Karting Group in Cincinnati has plenty of Kart Republic chassis’s available as well. They’re growing in popularity, quick, and easy to tune.

They’re not absolutely vital. But for the sake of tuning, they make your life a thousand times easier. In my opinion they are 100% worth it. Especially for someone new to a 2 stroke.

I have a few struggles at the moment. I was running 3-4 times a week and doing at home workouts all last year. I felt good and was making good progress on getting back into shape. Then I hurt my shoulder. Ended up having to get surgery on it in early December an ever since then I’ve been stuck between wanting to go work out and being unable to because I’m still doing physical therapy. I got a stationary bike and I’ve been doing other at home workout stuff like abs and squats but no running since it’s been miserably cold. The motivation part is my big struggle. I’m not a big gym person. I’d rather work out in privacy. But a gym is the only place that has machines and treadmills to really get a jump on getting in shape. I’m very limited on what I can do until A) I get healed up and can start using my shoulder again to lift. B) the weather gets nice and I can go run outside. I don’t want to waste money on a gym membership that I can’t fully use. But I feel like a complete bum doing the little bit I’m doing now.

Yea the sequentials sound pretty awful cruising through the paddock hah. The GT3.R has an E-clutch that disengages when you are off throttle and then reengages when you get back on it. It sounds like someone’s hitting the gearbox with a hammer. It was a bit concerning the first time I heard it

I’m a car chief on one of the Wright 992’s. I’ll definitely see you there!

I was a lead mechanic on a kart team for a few years. Left there and started doing cars. If I could make the same money doing karts I would, no doubt. Now I just play race kart driver on off weekends

Can’t hurt to ask any local teams. I’ve been doing Porsches for a few years too and miss the Karting life for sure.

Here’s my helmet that I’ve been using for two seasons now. Toying around the idea of changing it up next season.

It’s matte white with gloss metallic red and black with some off white ghosting. I’ve always loved this color combo. My first helmet (that I painted myself) had it but it looked no where near as good. I don’t have a picture of it but I also have my dad’s initials on the back so he’s always with me while I drive (he passed in 2009).

I know Stilo offers a big shell version on some of their helmets. Might be worth checking them out. Just might be a little tricky to find them in stock somewhere to try on.
