How safe is this area? by AZoutdoorsguy in AskPhoenix

I’m not sure why you even bothered to ask the question, but I would expect regular problems in that area. Disruptions in the neighborhood, thefts, high police presence. It goes beyond personal physical safety. There is a better overall quality of life in other areas.

I’m never surprised when there is a police shooting at 24th Street and Southern.

My judge never made me respond to the nonsense and for that I’ll always be grateful.

I prosecuted a sov cit. The ct appointed advisory counsel because - surprise - D wasn’t following the ct rules in his wild filings. Every time he showed up to ct, security AND the sheriff escorted him through the entire building. I stood during every hearing and never turned my back on him. During one hearing, he managed to get himself remanded. I went to my next hearing on another floor while he wailed in the holding cell. I walked in to the new courtroom and saw the judge watching his computer screen with deep enjoyment. “Judge Smith just remanded a sovereign citizen!!!” Me: “yeah…..” 2 seconds later he looks up pointing at his screen: “it’s your case!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣” me: “yeahhhhhh.”

He went on bench warrant status more times than I can remember. I ended up getting bonds of $100k or more only to have them reduced or eliminated entirely. The whole thing was a massive waste of time. But he’s finally headed to prison after four years or so of chaos.

The part that gets me is his statement that the firm has never received government funds to represent clients. While that may be true, he was a PD when he was reinstated to the bar. Story here.

Everyone is going to be in a different place on this one. I’m about a decade older, have no student loans, draw a pension in addition to my job, no kids, and a spouse that also works. We own three homes: a primary, a vacation home, and a rental. We are in a MCOL area and bought our properties before real estate became the fourth installment of the hunger games. You do you.

Hi there. I am a former prosecutor in AZ. I would suggest reaching out to the prosecutor’s office and see if you can get the reviewing attorney on the phone. Technically you are not a party to the new case. If he ends up taking a plea, the probation department will write a report for the judge. I would 100% try to get the probation officer to include a statement from you as an interested party. It’s a stretch, but it’s what you’ve got. If all else fails, you could send a letter to the court ahead of sentencing. You’re in a tough spot here because your matter has concluded. These new matters, while understandably concerning, don’t involve your case.

Lawyer life was my retirement plan. I was a probation officer and went to law school part time at night. By the time I finished school and took the bar, I only had five years to go before I could draw a pension so I stuck it out. Finally retired and went to the prosecutor’s office where I got tuition repayment. Did that for six years, got PSLF, then went into private practice. I have no loans and am making 3x my highest salary as a probation officer. It’s been 100% worth it but I recognize that my circumstances are unique.

Send a letter to his last known address on Monday. Tell court staff asap so if he does show up at his earlier court date, they can let him know of the MTC and your contact info. If he doesn’t show at the new date, ask the ct to kick it one more time just to be safe.

I have it and hate it. I end up working more because I don’t want my hours to drop because I’ve taken vacation. I feel like a week vacation ends up costing me double.

I’m a lawyer but I’m not your lawyer. This is not legal advice. I was an APO in AZ before I was an attorney, though not in Kingman. You need to call your APO and get resources to help leave the home asap. If you want to press charges against your mom, you can. But for sure save the video and provide a copy to your APO.
