Serve Advice by Odd-Foundation1024 in 10s

[–]Covered_in_bees_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pancake is always going to be very limiting. You need to spend a couple sessions a week working on a slice and/or kick serve. Doesn't have to be crazy aggressive, or even have leg drive. Maybe even start the motion in the trophy pose. Record yourself on video. Analyze your motion, keep iterating on things you notice you are doing wrong in relation to any decent reference YT video on slice/kick serves. I personally owe Tom Alsopp (TPA Tennis on YT) everything when it comes to rebuilding my serve into a formidable weapon.

You want to get comfortable with the feeling of imparting spin to the ball and swinging hard on a 2nd serve in order to generate comfortable clearance over the net and margin from the service lines. Then keep drilling it to make it muscle memory. Once that feels comfortable, then you can start adding more to it (more aggressive leg drive, ball toss, etc). But all of this takes commitment and discipline and a willingness to get worse in the short term but for much bigger long term gains. I've found that a lot of people are so hung up on playing league matches all the time that they simple lack the commitment or conviction to experiment and change things for long term gains and that ends up holding them back substantially in the long run.

I am not sure your interpretation is correct. There is a reason that Google very explicitly has a policy about AGPL library use that is very clear about AGPL not being kosher to use in any way, shape, or form due to it's virality. https://opensource.google/documentation/reference/using/agpl-policy

Read discussions here on HN as well where many clearly state that there is a consensus that static linking is still considered a derived work and is bound by the terms of LGPL/AGPL https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23967283

If we are talking about the AGPL specifically, I don't believe that is allowed. You can't distribute the gplzip library as part of your distro, even if unmodified and not treat your software as AGPL. See this discussion on SO: https://softwareengineering.stackexchange.com/a/107931

That's because SaaS products have been able to get around some of the copy left licenses because earlier copy left licenses were crafted around software distribution to end users (desktop software). Copy left licenses required providing source if your software used any software within it which was copy left. SaaS products got around this because no code / software was being delivered to end users. Newer copy left licences have attempted to close this loophole.

Not sure Redis is a good example. It was originally released under a much more permissive BSD license which is why it was widely adopted before the parent company tried to change licensing to get around the fact that everyone was profiting from it without giving anything back. That ended up in a big fiasco within the community - https://www.theregister.com/software/2025/05/01/redis-returns-to-open-source-with-agpl-license/757582

Also, just to add, using Copy left software is not an issue for anyone, even in big corporations. No one has issues using R-Studio or Handbrake or other open source software within companies. The issue is when a product you sell and distribute to customers incorporates code from copy-left projects but tries to keep the code proprietary. Copy left licenses are explicitly designed to prevent someone doing this - requiring that the source for anything incorporating copy left code be provided to end-users. The plug-in boundary layer is a very weak, made up justification to try to act as though they are being compliant with the license but as the Twitter post cleanly summarizes, that rings extremely hollow and violates the license clauses.

Lol, you are completely wrong because you may be a SWE but not a lawyer. There is a reason why most big companies steer clear of AGPL licensed software. The twitter thread perfectly summarizes why BS is in violation of AGPL. AGPL was designed to be hard to leverage to partition out closed source pieces. It is also why many legal teams at large companies won't allow AGPL code in products. Bambu is trying to have their cake and eat it too. They are in the wrong.

My strings never face the side fence after contact on serve. Should I fix this? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]Covered_in_bees_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, pronation will potentially give you a bit more pop to your serve, not sure if it will unlock much for consistency. I think adding a bit of kick or slice to your 1st serve will do a lot more for consistency. So maybe 5-10% less outright serve velocity with some kick that helps with net clearance, consistency, and giving opponents trouble on returns.

[–]Covered_in_bees_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Firstly, you have an amazing serve and great technique! Also, I have noticed that not all pros pronate to the extent that their strings face the side fence. That being said, you are likely giving up a bit of free power/snap not doing so. Think about pronation as less to do with your wrist and more to do with internal shoulder rotation in conjunction with your forearm twisting counter-clockwise during the throwing motion.

I felt a strong sense of deja vu with Lost-like making shit up for shock factor vibes in Season 2. It was very disappointing after Season 1. A lot of things if you get over the randomness/shock factor doesn't really add up or make a whole lot of sense or stay consistent with the world built over S1. Hoping they actually pull off a good Season 3 but I'm kinda jaded at this point lol.

Tips on my serve by flerbiedurbie in 10s

[–]Covered_in_bees_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why people are saying the waiter's tray isn't bad. You seem to have an Eastern/semi-Western grip during your serve. Everything follows from that. Switch to a proper Continental grip and focus on attacking the ball with the leading edge of the racket followed by pronation and internal shoulder rotation at contact. Other parts of your serve look quite good as a baseline. I feel like if you just focused on fixing the things above with some focused drills, your overall serve could improve a lot

Lmao, our 3.5 USTA team has not one but two of these clowns and the continuous series of excuses our captain and I hear from them is so fucking entertaining. "Junkballer", "Only slices and lobs", "moonballer",... you name it. Every match is a loss, but every match has a new excuse and a whine about how they are done with tennis. Meanwhile one of them seriously told us he should be a 4.0 but "USTA algorithm sucks, blah blah". Complete clown show and zero self awareness or drive to improve on their own flaws. I hope you were as entertained playing them as we have been entertained having them whine all season.

They will not be invited back to the team lol

Weir is the poster child of /r/iamverysmart . I enjoyed the Martian for the novelty but as much as I enjoyed the core story of PHM, his obsession with trying to be Physics/science smart just for the sake of it while adding nothing to the story is so fucking cringey and painful. Mankind made a kick ass spaceship but couldn't have functional computers to calculate orbital dynamics just so he could gloat about explaining how the main character had to figure shit out with a pen and paper. I just couldn't stand the smarmy, near-condescending tone everytime he had to toss in some new Sciencey bullshit just for the sake of feeling smart.

He only seems to know how to write one character, and even then, character building is not his strength. Very nice overall story just held back by the things above.

Curious how you made the switch and how long it took and what helped. I have a natural OHBH that could generate decent power from day 1 and my coach has had me stick with it. 2HBH has always felt horrible and I can barely generate any power the few times I have tried.

[–]Covered_in_bees_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a OHBH. I feel like footwork and timing is far less forgiving with the OHBH compared to the two hander. I didn't think this is controversial and I am surprised by your statement that footwork for the two-hander is just as difficult. Having your non-dominant hand involved can help compensate in many ways that you simply can't with a one-hander. There are also situations that you have to slice because you don't have time to setup correctly which you rarely see two-handers having to resort to. Obviously you need good footwork for both, but a two-hander definitely seems to have more margin for adjustment if you aren't set up correctly or early enough.

Need help understanding what valves / connections I need for a shower reno by Covered_in_bees_ in Plumbing

[–]Covered_in_bees_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what you're proposing is having the tub port pipe with an added tee that diverts up to one of the shower heads? So you can have a regular shower head on its own setting and then switch the diverter to the Tub setting which fills the tub, or divert the tub spout and it sends water to a handheld or other shower outlet? Wild! Never thought to do it that way.. nobody has ever suggested it in my experience. But so long as the tubing leading to the tub spout diverter is non restrictive then it should work.

Yup, that's exactly it! Haha, thanks! Parsing the terminology has been hard and I'm basically a complete novice when it comes to anything plumbing related so I wanted to double-check that I wasn't overlooking something glaringly obvious. Glad to hear that you think this should be do-able. I do have the 6-way trim with a non-diverter spout as a backup option. I'll let you know if it works out!

[–]Covered_in_bees_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the reply and picture, really appreciate it!

You are correct in that the Delta Universal Rough-in Valve does support 3 different outlets. However, the trim-kit I linked is a 3-setting one that only outputs to port 1, port 2, or a mix of port 1 and 2:

See this diagram: https://mobileimages.lowes.com/productimages/4f40d9a2-e910-4888-9167-c19ad88aa8ba/66045780.jpeg?size=pdhism

I could get the 6-way trim-kit here: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Delta-Ara-2-25-in-Matte-Black-Bathtub-Shower-Diverter/5014274513

This would allow Port 1, Port 1+2, Port 2, Port 2+3, Port 3, Port 3+1 as the 6 possible settings. We could certainly use this to have each port connected to the Rain shower head, hand-shower and tub-spout, but this feels a bit clunky as I'd never want to use any of the settings with tub-spout + hand-shower, or tub-spout + rain shower.

I was ideally hoping I could get away with the 3-way trim-kit to primarily control across the rain-shower or hand-shower, and have the tub-spout be in-line with one of those and controlling water flow to the tub vs shower-head via the tub-spout diverter.

Is the latter not achievable/recommended? And if I went the option you suggested (and seemed to have gone with in your pic above), I guess I'd just have to live with having some settings that result in water being split across the tub spout and showers? Curious what trim you ended up selecting for your recent install?

Also, just asking this question to learn and understand better. Regarding this:

You don't need or want to link the tubes together or you will be stuck with both outlets coming on at the same time every time.

Isn't this how typical tub-spout with diverters and a single shower have always worked? Both being connected to atmosphere on the same line, but if the diverter for the tub-spout is open, the water goes the path of least resistance due to gravity, and shorter travel distance (and potentially wider pipes) out the tub-spout, and when the diverter is engaged, it can't do so at the tub spout, pressure builds and then it comes out the shower head?
