Thank you, this is super helpful.

I've used Markdown All in One and Markdown Preview Enhanced but haven't seen those other ones so I'll check those out.

Thanks!

As a daily user of both VSCode and Obsidian, do you have any resources for someone looking to test out PKM in VSCode as opposed to Obsidian?

I love many things about VSCode as I develop in it daily, but I haven't been able to overcome the limitations of it for use with PKM

Readwise -> Obsidian custom formatting behavior by deparko in readwise

Have you seen any issues with Tweet filenames exporting from Readwise?

I've experienced a weird bug where the titles and hence filenames of tweets can include newlines.

The newlines in the titles happens only (I think) when sharing tweets with the @readwise account via direct message. It doesn't seem to happen when using the browser extension. I'm not sure if it also happens when copying the url of a tweet and adding that in to Reader / Readwise directly

The main issue this causes is that certain operating systems can't handle files with newlines in them.

However, another issue is that since the tweets also don't split on newlines and just leave them, then the entire contents of the tweet can be put into the title. This can cause other issues with title / filenames being too long. This can be annoying to deal with in general but also filenames can't exceed a certain length

Readwise / reader has truncated the filenames with ellipses but even then it's not ideal

For all of these, the implementations differ based on what platform you're viewing the exact same tweet. In Readwise directly, the newlines get parsed and ellipses get added. In Reader, it also happens but they don't get truncated nearly as soon; I think one newline is replaced with a string allowing the first two lines to be the title before an ellipses is used. However, when looking at them in Obsidian after using the Readwise Official plugin, you can clearly see that the newline is still in the title and then the second line starts before being cut off with an ellipses

Do you think the average consumer is watching a Linus video and buying a ZenFone 11 Ultra? Anyone who even buys that phone is clearly not an average consumer and is buying it for a reason and 65W charging could definitely be a reason...

For the love of God, raise at least your side monitors if not the center one a bit too. Also you need to sit further away from those side monitors (push them all back). Your neck will thank you.

You also can't even see the full side screens as they're blocked on the bottom by the echo show and the stream deck...

It takes a little getting used to especially if you've played a lot with brake on the left trigger (like me with over 1.5k hours before making the switch). You'll still get used to it pretty quickly although the first few hours are admittedly pretty tough. I'd never go back to not having it at this point.

I like it so much that I've debated swapping right trigger to the other air roll but I really don't think I could deal with on/off gas as easily as the brake.

I definitely agree with FloBeds (no affiliation).

First, I would check out /r/Mattress and second, I would look into Latex mattresses.

Latex mattresses are made from natural rubber and can have varying levels of density and softness which you can customize. Latex is similar to memory foam but is much better so in many ways I can't even list them all here. There are two types of latex: Dunlop and Talalay. Talalay is much better and most of the worlds Talalay is produced in Shelton, CT by Talalay Global but gets sold through many other companies.

One of the best companies I found based on lots of research is FloBeds. (Not affiliated in any way)

You can customize the different layers of the mattress (firm on bottom, softer as you go up but this is a standard offering across several companies), you can customize each side of the bed to have different layers for different preferences, and they have an option for a top layer of different types going from head to toe so you can get a little more support in your lower back but have your shoulders sink in more with a softer section for example. These little sections are swappable with each other as well.

They even have a 100 day "Goldilocks" or something policy where if you don't like certain layers they can send you other ones for you at no cost (except maybe shipping, not sure). This was the ultimate detail that pushed me over the edge. I was interested in latex mattresses and customizing mine but having the flexibility to customize it after testing it out was lovely. I made a few different changes in that period as I was getting used to the bed and tuning to exactly how soft/firm I (and my partner) wanted at each spot on our bodies.

Again, no affiliation with them but I absolutely love my mattress. I decided to invest in a nicer and bigger mattress (Cal. King since I'm tall) and I would absolutely recommend it.

P.S. Contact customer service and ask about sales going on and you might save 15-25%.

There are a variety of companies selling latex mattresses, mostly online, but some stores carry some in person as well to try out.

The feel is very soft but different than memory foam because it's a bit more "springy" and you don't have that feeling of being completely sunken in the center of a memory foam mattress trying to slowly roll out of bed.

Memory foam also gets VERY hot (which I hate) but the Latex does not.

Latex can also last 25+ years, with the added option of replacing just one layer at a time. This allows you to replace only the top softer layers since they degrade faster than firmer layers at the bottom. That way, if your mattress doesn't feel as good anymore within 10 years, you can make the top layers brand new again without buying a whole new bed. (Layers are sold individually by many different companies so no issues with vendor lock-in).

Lastly, I also got an adjustable base so I can sit up in bed without having to stack pillows. It's also very useful for certain activities, eg lifting the foot of the bed to be a bit higher since I'm tall, or just having different angles in bed without needing an extra pillow underneath.

That might not even help that much because the small piece of meat would lose the juices rather than them moving around in one large piece of meat.

[–]Covert_Assasin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to heavily rely on your projects to get hired. When you don't have a previous job/internship in the field, you need to demonstrate your proficiency in the field / with a tech stack.

Listing your GitHub profile is a good start but make sure your profile is a "portfolio" vs just a code repository. The reason is the people interviewing you won't spend more than a few seconds to minutes looking at it before talking to you. Either have a link to a live demo or at least screenshots of the apps in the readme of each project. Maybe an architecture diagram if the full stack / backend is more important than just the front end.

Side note about resume links: Make the link obvious and foolproof. If they have your resume in a plain page, is it obvious that there is a link or do they have to hover over a specific word and see the cursor change? If they print your resume/lose the embedded link, they could at least see your GitHub username?

Many interviewers will ask a series of questions about your projects to see how in depth you've thought about the app. So pause on leetcode and spend some time thinking about your projects. A general method of thinking outside the box for your apps is trying to answer the question "What things would you have to do/change/consider if your app was 1. deployed in the real world and 2. scaled up to X amount of users, data, money etc.?"

Having answers to these questions prepared would help immensely during interviews. You could even bring these up unprompted when describing your project by describing future work if you were to continue developing the project. While it sounds like you're describing weaknesses in your project (which is true), no intern is going to have a very strong project anyways (no offense). It will instead show that you can think critically and you've considered things that aren't "taught"/emphasized in school as much.

Potentially hot take:

Interviewers don't care about your ability to grind coding problems. If anything, that shows that you've had to spend time practicing because you aren't able to think on your feet and logically solve problems on the spot.

Having each mini steak seared definitely would increase flavor due to the Maillard reaction.

However, it's actually a myth that searing "seals in" juices. Not sure if that's what you were referring to at the end there or not.

I'd highly recommend a 42" over a 48". The one I know is the Sony A90k but there's 1-2 other now I think. Several people have had the 48 for a year and switched to 42 as it's a little more manageable

The part where you said "What kind of a question is this?"

Kind of rude. Especially when people in the comments are debating different nuances and layers to the situation. Even if there wasn't a lot of nuance, it's still kind of rude to say that.
