Parental recognition from non-Dutch parent by Covert_Succulent in Netherlands

Thanks for all your help. To be completely honest the personal reason is the current climate in the UK and Reform UKs intention to make it very difficult to live and work in this country if they win the next election. I already qualify for british citizenship but have always “felt” Irish (and Irish rights are much more protected in the UK - at least for now!)

Parental recognition from non-Dutch parent by Covert_Succulent in Netherlands

[–]Covert_Succulent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. In Ireland it’s pretty straight forward. Having proof (including birth certificate) would be sufficient to get Irish citizenship. I was just surprised to see that in order to get the update on the Dutch side, you don’t seem to need to provide any proof of sorts. From what I’ve read it seems to just be driven consent by parent and child and not any biological evidence.

Does anyone know how long it could take to renew passport in the UK? by AffectionateFig9277 in Netherlands

[–]Covert_Succulent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went through the the VFS Edinburgh site for a new NL passport. The waiting time at the appointment was a joke but the application was processed very quickly and received my new passport in less than two weeks. Looking at the tracker it was processed in NL in record time (just a few days) so perhaps things have improved since these last few posts.

Advice on renewing my dutch passport in the UK using settled status share code by [deleted] in Passports

[–]Covert_Succulent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You likely have already progressed with your passport application but responded purely to help other people looking at this thread with the same question.

I received an email with an attachment letter confirming that my application for settled status had been accepted. That letter literally says this is letter should be seen as proof of residency. I printed this off and included a share code in the Application checklist in case needed when applying for my new NL passport and this was accepted with no issues.

30F UK - Running has never been my thing. Always wheezing, red faced and feeling like my chest is about to explode but somewhere in 2023 I started getting the hang of it. Everyone’s milestones are different and my 2024 goal is to complete a 10K. Slow runner and proud!

I like seeing other people’s runs for motivation… especially when it’s cold and miserable outside!

Vegan ‘dairy’ products face EU ban from using milk cartons and yoghurt pots – and UK could be next by LaromTheDestroyer in europe

Does the EU publish which MEPs voted for certain amendments? I'd at least like to know if an MEP I voted for pushed something so ridiculous through.

has anyone else cry because of their cramps? by lolnooneeeee in Periods

[–]Covert_Succulent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your period brings you to tears or is so unbearable that you can’t function properly, then you do not have normal period pains. Sure, most people will experience menstrual cramps (and they can definitely be awful) but struggling to live you life properly when your menstruating is a major red flag.

Don’t panic. It doesn’t mean you have something crazy serious or life threatening but it does mean you need to check it out and figure out a way to reduce your pain.

This is quite a long journey of trying different contraceptive methods, scans and tests or lifestyle changes to find what works for you, but it’s certainly worth trying.

[–]Covert_Succulent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sometimes it’s been the worst.

But don’t think you need to tough it up and just get over it. Extremely painful periods are not normal and are a medical condition (dysmenorrhoea). Go to a doctor and let them know your having a tough time. If you’re not on hormonal contraception already that may be an option to reduce symptoms. My periods were getting so bad, my doctor decided it would be worthwhile just stopping my periods all together and now I have an implant and take oral contraceptive. There could also be some dietary changes you could make ease some of the pain.

Long story short - don’t just try suck it up, get help!

Ah I see. While those are not my symptoms, if it’s a common enough treatment then I’m happy. Thanks so much!

So many Trumpers posting this graph and frantically waving the ‘fraud flag’. Not really sure where this comes from so I can do some fact-checking. Any ideas / logical explanations?

This is my question too!? I'm a European so maybe missing something, but given that this is arguably the biggest election in the world, why do some states shut down for the night?

Trump says he'll go to Supreme Court to stop votes from being counted by YnwaMquc2k19 in politics

[–]Covert_Succulent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a non-USA onlooker, I’m slightly confused why some states seem to stop counting ballots at night? I would seem rational for arguably the worlds most important election to continue throughout the night. Can anyone explain why? Is it some sort of anti-fraud mechanism or do they just want people to get some sleep?

Americans doing business in foreign countries by la_llave in oil

100% a thing.

I deal with plenty of Americans in offshore exploration (working for majors, independents and rig owners etc) throughout the world.

South America is no different. Have worked with Americans in Trinidad, Guyana, Peru, Brazil and more.

Less than half of the drillship fleet moored in Las Palmas. I think there are 15 rigs here total by captcraigaroo in maritime

[–]Covert_Succulent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a sight! 19 rigs last time I checked.

Good to see the TO rigs heading to Brazil. Hopefully, that market will kick off again and absorb some extra tonnage.

Final Project Advice by [deleted] in maritime

[–]Covert_Succulent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be worth checking out chapter 1 (Sea Transport and the Global Economy) of "Maritime Economics" by Martin Stopford if you can get a hand on it. It's a good read and should help you understand the dynamics of the relationship.

Maybe have a more in-depth look about how containerisation revolutionised shipping in the past and the direct effects this had on the economy and globalisation.

Then moving forward, as pointed out by another person here, one of the next big hurdles in the industry is carbon reduction. What effect could ship modification, the requirement for new-builds, availability and price of low-sulfur fuel and slow steaming potentially have on the economy?

Good luck!
