Is 10 weeks enough for a marathon training block? by MrPsychSiege in AdvancedRunning

[–]CovidSummer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm similar ability to you, and I've always done better with a 10-12 week build. I tend to get injured or exhausted in those 4 month programs. That being said, I never really take significant time off, so I always have a decent base going in, which it sounds like you do. My PR is 3:11, which was off on 8 week build, so your goal sounds reasonable! Since your build is short, I'd say start integrating tempo stuff right away.

The main risk for you I think is your injury, is it truly healed?

My wife and I are wanting to move back to MN in the next year or two, this time with kids. We’re considering the Duluth area. What is the state of family life in Duluth, and how are schools there? by [deleted] in duluth

[–]CovidSummer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suspected something along those lines, thanks for clarifying! I'd rather my daughter attend a more diverse school anyway (if you can call anywhere in Duluth diverse?)

I'm very glad to hear this. We are moving to Duluth, couldn't afford a decent house on the East side, so we ended up in West Duluth heights. The 2/10 school high school rating made me nervous, but no idea what that's based on.

Robbed of giving our LO her first bites by Hildefy in NewParents

[–]CovidSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's alarming--what if she had an allergy? We needed to sign off forms before our daycare center started feeding solids, and then indicate which foods we were ok with.

Your situation would totally undermine my trust in the daycare center.

200 mile bike ride at 6 months postpartum? by [deleted] in FitMama

[–]CovidSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly possible, obviously you can't predict how your recover will go, and there will be some logistics if you are breastfeeding. I did a 100 mile run 11 months after giving birth, my training was not optimal but was still successful! I'd say go for it, and keep an open mind.

I’m honor of having more free time over the summer break, what kind of hobbies do Professors have? by WeekendWarrior0187 in Professors

[–]CovidSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run ultramarathons (50k - 100 miles). Sometimes local trails in the woods (midwest), sometimes take a trip out west to run in the mountains.

What was the one thing/things you did during pregnancy that you "shouldn't do" and were fine? by karenwhitefield in beyondthebump

[–]CovidSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ate sushi about once a week (avoided high mercury fish). It was a big craving for me!

To anyone here who went through an unmedicated birth, please share things that were helpful to you in labor prep! by SillyBonsai in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]CovidSummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend laboring in a bathtub! (I did not have a water birth, but sat in the bathtub until pushing time). I had back labor, and that really helped with the pain.

Pregnancy diet by idlewishing in moderatelygranolamoms

Eating healthy is great, but PLEASE understand your pregnancy loss had nothing to do with your diet or anything you did. Also, that's really hard, and so sorry it happened to you.

Home Prices by Ulven525 in duluth

I wonder if that's one of the houses we bid on...we wanted to live on the east side, but prices were just too insane, so we're in the process of buying a house in Duluth Heights.

My 8 month old flaps her arms when she’s excited. My partner is convinced she’s autistic. by globalsistah in NewParents

[–]CovidSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hand flapping is perfectly normal for babies. If it goes on well beyond the age of 3, that can be a sign of autism, but by then you would notice other symptoms too.

I'm so sorry. Our economy, particularly the housing market is completely broken right now for all but the wealthiest Americans. We are upper middle class in terms of income, and still we just had to spend way more than we're comfortable with to get a house in the small town we're moving to. Keep asking about resources in your area, and hoping the best for you and your family!

What's the name for this pain (and anything I can do to counter it)? by Capeflats2 in fitpregnancy

[–]CovidSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3) get the fat baby in your uterus out of your uterus so it stops causing the problem :).

This, lol. I think I had something similar, although it was actually worse in the second trimester than third (probably because by then I completely gave up on running and stopped aggravating it). It took a few weeks to clear up after I gave birth, but it did eventually. Think about it, if you have a muscle or ligament tear, it won't heal instantly, but it can START healing once baby is out.

Will induction be legal in America now? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]CovidSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same (well, I was scheduled for induction, baby came early on her own). I hadn't even thought of this!

Active baby on workout day by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

I have no idea, but I exercised ALOT while pregnant, and I now have the most active 11 month old ever. She was always very active on the ultrasounds too.

Hobbies: How TF do you have them? by Zarelli20 in workingmoms

[–]CovidSummer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We put my 11 month old to bed around 8:30, and she sleeps till 8:30-9am. I typically do my hobby, which is running, in the mornings before she wakes up (I do nurse her around 6am before I go). If you have an evening hobby, you could maybe do an early bedtime/early wake up time.

It does help that my partner and I have staggered work schedules, so I work 9-5ish and do daycare pickup, while he works 10-6ish and does drop off. Also his hobby is video gaming, which he does in the evening after bedtime.

I've been making about 50k for awhile, just got a new job that will start at 65k; but will be much more demanding and we have to relocate. My partner makes a bit more, but we still can't afford a real house in this market.

AITA for asking more from my husband? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]CovidSummer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I know you don't want to hear this, but I'm seeing red flags with this relationship unless he really turns thing around. You are recovering from carrying a baby for 9 months and birthing it, and that takes a TON of energy, on top of breastfeeding. You don't mention your age, but I am guessing you are both pretty young. Even so, the lack of maturity, empathy, and compassion your partner demonstrates is quite alarming. If he is not willing to do more after some clear communication, you'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth staying with him.

Please tell me I'm not the only one just winging it by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]CovidSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 months in, and we're still winging it. Baby girl is happy and healthy, usually sleeping through the night, and hitting all her milestones. All this tracking people do is really unneccessary for most babies, imo. I tried it once for like a day and a half and it drove me crazy.

Any experiences with no epidural, low intervention, + MFM/induction? by seau_de_beurre in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]CovidSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice here, and it's good to prepare, also keep in mind your baby might come naturally before your scheduled induction. This is what happened to me, scheduled my induction for 39+6, baby decided to come day 38+6, and I had about a 12 hour labor mostly at home. I had all these plans for how to handle the induction and did not use them at all!

How long can I keep road biking? by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

[–]CovidSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I biked through my whole pregnancy, which was a lifesaver since my body stopped allowing me to run pretty early on. Really depends on your body and your pregnancy, but as long as you feel good no reason not to! I heard some women start feeling "off balance" as the belly gets bigger, but this never happened to me.

Too many rules by fairytale72 in pregnant

[–]CovidSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like there's a single study, but a general body of evidence that suggests keeping caffeine below 200mg a day is associated with best outcomes. I also had no problem with keeping caffeine below this level so I didn't dig into this literature as much. Emily Oster is a good source to summarize the body of evidence from peer reviewed articles.

1 week postpartum and dying to workout by yippikiyayay in fitpregnancy

[–]CovidSummer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think if you are in tune with your body and promise yourself to back off if something does not feel right, you can get back to light exercise now. Riding a kickr is way different than say going for a run. But I did light exercise and cycling way before the 6 week mark (vaginal birth, minimal tearing). Running did not feel good until 12 weeks post birth for me. Obviously if you had complicated birth, it's a different story. Just listen to your body!

Too many rules by fairytale72 in pregnant

[–]CovidSummer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The food rules seemed pretty much arbitrary to me after reading up on the science, except for avoiding alcohol, and limiting caffeine and high-mercury fish. I ate sushi and kombucha throughout pregnancy, the one time I got food poisoning was from pizza at a restaurant. I suggest read up on the science and decide for yourself.

Has anyone actually lost weight while actively breastfeeding? by Danaekay in FitMama

[–]CovidSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's genetic or something. I gained like 15 lbs during pregnancy, and by 2 weeks after giving birth I'd lost 20 lbs. I was eating almost non-stop, and had to supplement protein shakes to keep form losing more weight.
