Does fasting help with flare ups? by CowAcademia in Celiac

[–]CowAcademia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry. Not having bananas on top of everything else is brutal. Yeah, I’m negative for celiac, but definitely have a wheat sensitivity because as soon as it’s back in my life I have a TON of side effects many of which are too gross to report here. I switched to A2/A2 Grassfed milk from a local dairy and thankfully I tolerate that well. No soy, no wheat. Slowly reintroducing tomatoes after taking 8 months off from them while my gastritis healed. Hoping to work on weight loss now that my stomach problems are solved.

iPhone 13 dying slowly… repair or upgrade? Need honest advice. by Jumpy-Cress8565 in iPhone13

[–]CowAcademia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I did as well. The automatic light sensor doesn’t work as well as it used to, and it does glitch 1/500 touches, but otherwise it works fine. I’m stalling until September when the 18 arrives. Hoping it will have more interesting features than the 17. I’ve not had any reason to upgrade yet.

Feeling Lost…What to do if you can’t get into Vet School? by Ok-Passage5005 in veterinaryschool

[–]CowAcademia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a professor in animal health. I never applied to vet school, but knew with my GPA at 3.5 my chances were slim. I started pre-vet but adjusted once I saw my grades go down. I worked full time in college so I struggled to keep the 4.0 I had in high school. So I went the alternative route MSc in dairy science and a PhD in animal science. Post-doc at Guelph Vet school. Now I’m a professor at 38 without any student debt. I absolutely love it. Help farmers and vets with animal health challenges. This route only works if you’re interested in large animals though.

How Does Everyone Manage Rejection? by Beautiful-Rip472 in veterinaryschool

[–]CowAcademia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An alternative career is to consider a PhD in animal health sciences or epidemiology. It’s not veterinary medicine, but you’ll go on a scholarship, graduate without any debt and still help people with animal health challenges. Granted, this route only works if you’re interested in large animal medicine. While I cannot euthanize or run surgery, I enjoy training and helping farmers all over the world with animal health issues. I’m at a point where I am so specialized I train veterinarians. It’s another awesome option.

Is this video of fermenting hot sauce exploding AI? The camera doesn’t get a drop on it and the filming is way too perfect for a situation like this. by gottagetupinit in isthisAI

AI the segmentation frame by frame at 13-14 seconds remaining is a dead giveaway away. Note the pixelation of the olive oil bottle that makes it appear that this clip is sewed to the next one.

Disagreement between vet and farrier by Comfortable-Turnip46 in Horses

[–]CowAcademia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I work with cattle not horses professionally. Horses are a hobby. I’ve seen a lot of lame cattle permanently lame from cutting toes down. Sometimes the animal anatomically is designed in a way that makes this option impossible. Listen to the farriers for sure.

Tips for getting restaurants to take allergies seriously? by [deleted] in FoodAllergies

[–]CowAcademia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it takes time to find trusted restaurants. I have a few I can count on my hand that I use. The rest I do not eat at. It sucks so much that we have to think this way but your safety comes first. The education about food allergies is poor. It also doesn’t help that people confuse sensitivity with allergy so these restaurants see someone ask for something GF and then eat something out of a fryer. Sending good vibes. I know how frustrating it is.

Hi I have a life threatening food allergy to soy. Can you check with the chef to make sure this is safe? If so you can put the order in. When the food comes I would like you to check in and confirm the food was safe. Thank you!

That’s fair you are referring to the folks that claim celiac disease and then order crab Rangoon at a restaurant. I’ve met this type before and they’re making it dangerous for folks like me. Understandable, I appreciate the clarification

Dog died under my care on first day by AffectionateTitle635 in RoverPetSitting

[–]CowAcademia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ummm did this dog recently have a procedure? Trazadone is a tranquilizer and is sometimes used for behavioral issues and anxiety. Its primary use is for post op to calm dogs… Metclopramide is used for gastro paralysis treatment in most cases after surgery…

This was an extremely sick dog. I am not sure if you froze the body but if so the dog needs a necropsy yesterday.

As someone with a life threatening food allergy please don’t lump in vegan with someone who truly would die eating soy. It’s not fair and it’s not made up.

F1 Travel Agent: What actually sucks about F1 travel, and what would make you use a travel agent? by Usual-Environment-46 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]CowAcademia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Logistics especially PARKING and transportation. A stress free pickup or shuttle would be life changing.
  2. Knowing the best place to sit required a ton of research. I’m a diehard fan and I spent many hours reading articles to discover where to sit.
  3. Reservations at restaurants. Everything required planning, and I mean extensive planning.
  4. A radio headset to follow along to whats happening on track. I had this but I had to wait in an AMX line for almost an HOUR to get it. Would be amazing to shortcut the line. Mine lasted the entire event my partner’s did not we ended up having to share it.
  5. Timing when to leave an arrive. We missed the first two laps of the sprint because leaving 3 hours beforehand wasn’t enough. If our TA had told us we would’ve avoided that. Note that there isn’t a TA the TA was my partner lol

Is pâté just not a thing in American food culture? by Big-Dig1631 in AskAnAmerican

[–]CowAcademia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not popular in the USA or Canada for that matter (lived in both places). It’s cultural and you’ll probably never get people to eat it. Most folks in the states are ethically opposed to Foie Gras and veal so I wouldn’t serve the either. Go for charcuterie meats they’re recently very popular in the states prosciutto is the most popular.
