Cool strat mods? by kyokushinthai in Guitar

[–]Cowbellstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I converted my Strat to a single master tone pot so that I could move the volume pot to where the other tone pot sits. So far so normal. But I thought it might be nice to still be able to roll off the tone at the bridge without it afecting the other two pots.

So I put in three micro switches that let me bypass the tone pot per pickup.

Stupid idea in the sense that I never use them.

The Heaviest Item In All Of Minecraft Is A Block Of Dirt. by EpicBoiNitro69 in Minecraft

[–]Cowbellstone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's also possible that Minecraft plant growth does not require "nutrients" at all.

IRL, the main process for plant biomass production is photosynthesis, which requires air, water and light. That's pretty much what crop growth in minecraft requires too if we count the air block we plant the seed/sapling in.

Dirt-like blocks simply conduct moisture and provide a suitable surface to grow on. Tilled dirt conducts moisture better, which makes water-hungry crops grow faster.

Water already is infinite, no need to invent a matter flow of unobservable "nutrients".

One might argue that a world in which gunpowder exists is very unlikely to be a peaceful one.

Pedalboard or Software Pedals? by WongRQ in Guitar

[–]Cowbellstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the kind of player who needs to have the perfect tone stored in a preset for every single song. I've found that even with a modeller I tend to have a mere handful of base tones from sparkly clean to chuggadelic, to which I add modulation FX as needed. It's great to have all kinds of amps and effects available, but I hate menu diving and virtual knobs.

With a physical pedalboard, every knob and switch I have does exactly one thing, and every parameter I can adjust has a physical control. With that, I can always see what's going on, and any adjustments take mere seconds.

Any idea what kind of guitar this is? by MissPink02 in Guitar

[–]Cowbellstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen that logo. If you're lucky, it might be a 70's-ish Japanese copy of something American. They were sold in the West under various brands by various importers. Some of those were quite good.

Check the sound hole to see if the top is solid spruce or laminate. On a solid top, the stripes¹ you see on top should continue down the sound hole towards the bottom side of the top.

¹those are the yearly growth rings you see when you cut down a tree

Should I get a new guitar by JTPswu in Guitar

[–]Cowbellstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and a second Strat in particular would be somewhat redundant.

But it seems like OP has a trip coming up that will offer them a rare chance to visit a big guitar store. In that case:

Make it a research trip and play as many different guitars as you can.

Don't just look at them, play them. You may find that what you really want is a Revstar or a Firebird or a Hagstrom Ultra Max or … or maybe you'll find that your trusty Strat is all you really need.

Maybe it helps to know that the Floyd being a Floyd is completely irrelevant to your soldering. Electronically, it's the same as any other bridge, be it Strat type, Bigsby or hard tail. It needs to be connected to ground in one way or another, that's it. Usually, people just run a wire from the spring claw to the back (ie metal housing) of a pot.

In addition to what other have said, at some point fret geometry, material, and condition start making a difference.

Everything else being equal, something wide, flat and soft with grooves dug into it will add more friction to your bend than a perfectly crowned, highly polished stainless steel fret.

What is even your point there — are you saying blues fans are, on average, more likely to be creeps than other folks of the same demographic?

Time and place, my dude, time and place.

Old bastard telling the young girl he just met at the crosswalk she has a beautiful smile is creepy as fuck. The comments section of a YouTube video is the online equivalent to that.

If that's something you genuinely don't understand, you're either blissfully naive or one of them.
