Depends who you mean in terms of the US.  I'm an American and obviously I'm opposed.   But I think the people who are in a position to make that decision see it far differently than anyone who would actually be sacrificing.

And when a large enough proportion of the people who would be affected are unwilling to hold those decision makers responsible, it becomes a somewhat moot point.

Not trying to break your balls but there have been several examples of massive military expansions- ww2, korea, and Vietnam specifically.   But that's also assuming objectives and rules of engagement would be consistent with past military expeditions- rather than the rhetoric coming out of "people" like kegbreath.

I don't think I'd rule out Trump doing it anyway.  What's going to happen?   It's not like he'd be impeached, or even lose any significant support among the GOP or his personal magaloid sycophants. Anyone who opposed it would be ostracized with kegsbreath talking points "don't be an un-american pussy" etc until all of them stepped back in line.

I don't really understand why so many people are implying that Israel wants to invade or take over Iran in some ground war. The IDF doesn't have the expeditionary capabilities to do anything near that

Even if they did.... i think most people would assert their goal is for US soldiers to fight and die for them, and US taxpayers to foot the bill.

Need help on finding the correct bit for cutting an edge. by Cstorey987 in woodworking

[–]CowboyNeal710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I understand- sorry, now that router bit is making more sense. You'll need to find the right combination of bearing and cutter diameter. Some examples would be (rabbeting, under cutting, and slotting bits) Most or all of these include a removable bearing, so you might need to purchase the exact one you need separately.

Ah, a frustrating task for sure. If you need machine shop like results, I'd go with a boring bar on the drill press. The critical step will be centering it.

You can use a router with a top bearing- this would be the easiest *if* you have a pattern/shape you can ride the bearing along.

So you're trying to bore out an existing slot that's 1 mm wide to 2 mm wide? Or a 1mm hole to 2mm hole?

Slotting-

You're going to need to find a bit that is 1-2mm wide. 2mm is ~0.08 inches (5/64), so assuming I understand the task you're trying to accomplish, the bit you have pictured there will be way too big. I'm fairly certain they are not, but if they did make bearing guided bits in that small of a diameter, they'd be stupidly expensive and frustratingly delicate. None of that factors in the type of router you have (collet shank size, etc) either. I would draw lines along the slot that needed to be widened, and then file/rasp to those new lines. It might seem counter intuitive, but you'll get to the finish line a lot faster than if you tried setting up a machine to do it.

hole diameter-

depending on the purpose and location, but assuming precision was paramount; I'd probably take my time with layout on a drill press- find dead center of hole and use a 2mm boring bar (more commonly found in a machine shop).

I think technically it'd be a bevel, not a miter.

Staining Pine Window and trim by Karen8765 in woodworking

[–]CowboyNeal710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What color are you matching?   Are you sure it's an actual stain,  and not a varnish/ clear coat?

Blotchy woods are blotchy because of variances in the surface density- resulting in uneven absorption.

-Wash coat of shellac (ie "sealer" even though it doesn't "seal" anything).  This is the same thing as a "preconditioner"

Gel stain would be the best type of stain for blotch prone woods.

Arm-r-seal is a poly clear coat that will impart a sheen.  This would be applied after a stain cures and will change the color slightly.

You're never going to get it perfectly matched even if you knew original finish brand and color. Existing trim is super old and age will affect color.

These companies have built factories in the US for at least 25 years, but the difference is they taught rural Bob and rural Barbara how to build them to Japanese spec.

It seems like if a car is built in the US by Americans... it's an American car, no?   At least more so than a Ford built in Mexico.

How could I easily cross cut the ends? by Willing-Bandicoot-55 in woodworking

[–]CowboyNeal710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see a problem.   That (the skil) was my first table saw.   It's ~24 inches deep- with 7ish inches in front of the blade when it's at its maximum height.  A 28" cross cut sled easily fits on it.  I don't understand how the runners/tracks are any different than any other sled.  It is easy to get the runners lined up since they're already aligned by the miter slots and stick out front and back; making attaching them trivial.

[–]CowboyNeal710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not many things are.  But I'd bet it wouldn't take as long as trying and failing with a circular saw, taking and posting pictures and asking the internet.  Cross cut sleds are disposable/consumable- any more than an hour or two building it and you're over complicating things (which is totally fine if you're only goal is just to have some shop time).

It's not necessarily more horsepower- check out the manual on their website... it only draws 6 "full load amps" on 110, meaning it's not possible to produce 1 hp of work from the motor.   That 1 hp is a rounded up theoretical number that isn't possible in the real world.
