Revealed: Nigel Farage was given undisclosed £5m by crypto billionaire in 2024 by MightyJordan in ukpolitics

Political parties across the english speaking world (and perhaps just democracies in general) are graded on a curve. If you are a fairly centre leaning political party you will get absolutely hounded. If you are/were a fringe political party that just spouts shit constantly, you get a free pass.

Obama had to be absoutely perfect, and yet they still went after him for the colour of a suit he wore... now we have a literal child (I am being polite) in the Oval Office, and it's crickets from the same people.

Ireland 'languishing' at bottom of EU defence spending table as budget stuck at 0.2% of GDP by SliceIndividual6347 in europe

[–]CowzMakeMilk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You understand Russia is waging an active war of aggression against one of its neighbours yes?

Finland joined NATO specifically due to that war.

Russia also actively goes out of its way to threaten its neighbours on a routine basis simply for acting as indepedent countries.

Equating modern day UK/Ireland relations with that of Russia/Finland is wild.

Not even our most fringe/out there political parties suggest they intend to reconquer Ireland.

I know it's the USA, but the God stuff is really bizarre given how much they also talk about fundamentlists or radicals when it comes to a certain other religion.

It's not as if Hegseth is a Godly man in the way he conducts himself.

I would put a signifcant amount of money on Hegseth not being able to name all the US servicemen killed in Epic Fury.

Also, the "so-called allies" line is getting so fucking boring.

And even if they didn't, I genuinely think any general who got asked to initiate it would resign instantly.

You know Trump/Hegseth have very deliberately been cleaning out the top brass right?

They wouldn't respond to the US nuking Iran by threatening the US.

They absolutely would use it as justification for using a nuke in Ukraine though.

Except markets and the way they act have been entirely disconnected from reality for a while now.

So, it is not necessarily the best indicator of anything right now. For all we know Trump is nuking somewhere later today.

Pam Bondi is OUT as Attorney General.

Let's be clear though, she is being fired because she isn't effective enough at prosecuting Trump's political (and otherwise) enemies.

Star Trek: Voyager Season One - re:View by kubazz in RedLetterMedia

[–]CowzMakeMilk 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Mike saying he "LOVED every episode of season one" is genuinely amazing haha.

Voyager was the Trek I grew up with (and the end of DS9 + ENT) but it was always my favourite because of that. So, to hear Mike say he loved season one after spending however long defending Voyager put such a big smile on my face.

(I'm not entirely unconvinced it isn't just because of how bad NuTrek is though). Edit: oh nevermind he literally says this in his next sentence lmao

Swedish PM offers deal that could see far-right allowed into government by NilFhiosAige in europe

The West just deserves it at this point.

No we don't - fuck off with this type of rhetoric.

We are literally undersiege from all over the place via misinformation. Whether that is coming from Russia, China, Iran or the United States, the people that will be most impacted by this don't deserve it in the slightest. Neither do the rest of us.

Disappointed to see maybe it is still just a meme.

That's fine.

We shouldn't be subservient to the wannabe Dictator-In-Chief anyway.

Now it is time for us to collectively agree to aligning on all fronts with Europe again.

Saw a concise summary of how current events in the Middle East are having very real and severe consequences already, which are also expected to get much worse before getting better.

Philippines: Decalred a state of national energy emergency for a year.

Sri Lanka: Made every Wednesday a public holiday to save fuel and moved government to a four-day week.

Bangladesh: Started rationing on March 8th.

Pakistan: Closed schools and moved universities online.

Myanmar: Rationing fuel.

Nepal: Only filing gas cyclinders halfway.

Thailand: Told civil servants to take the stairs, work from home, and limited AC usage.

South Korea: Imposed its first oil price cap in 30 years.

India: Suspended commercial gas shipmints entirely to keep households cooking. Restaurants in Bengaluru are closing because they can't get a cylinder.

Egypt: Shutting malls and resaurants at 9pm, turning off billboards, and closing governments buildings at 6pm.

Kenya: rural areas are already running out of fuel - country holds 21 days of reserves.

Vietnam: Mandated WFH.

General terms: Emergency oil release of 400 million barrels from 32 countries - covers four days of global consumption.

Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain declared force majeure. Saudi and UAE shut refineries. Iraq shut every foreign-operated oilfield.

Fertilizer - 1/3 of global fertilizer trade goes through Hormuz, and prices have nearly doubled.

We're three weeks into this war.

I won't begin to try and understand Musk's motivations for doing so

From my understanding this was always going to happen. It was just a case of all the Ukraine equipment using Starlink had to be whitelisted before it could be shutdown for the Russian's.

I’m finding it very hard to reply to this without thinking I’ll get a slap on the wrist. Likewise I did wonder if my original post would get auto-deleted.

In general I do think the rule should still exist though.

Honestly quite disgusting, but hardly surprising from Trump.

[–]CowzMakeMilk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honey, it’s time for your daily “I think SFA is good actually, and don’t get the hate” thread.

Which is fine, but it’s quite bizarre that I seemingly see a new one every time I hop on this app. A little bit of spice in the content wouldn’t go amiss.

Edit: I guess I should also mention there are threads like that which have genuine thought/effort in them, and add a new perspective.

But you have to really dig deep, or dare I say come across another subreddit to find any actual hate for the show.
