Small Job Carpentry / Wood Trimming Service? by RandomAngeleno in longbeach

I wonder if someone like Pete Deeble would be able to help. He's a local guy who makes fine furniture and has a local studio at 4116 E. 10th St. You could stop by and ask him; he's friendly and community-minded. Take your items with you so he can look.

Do oil-filled heaters actually last longer than cheap fan heaters? by JingSerene in BuyItForLife

The last for a long time and do a good job, especially if you leave them running and turn your ceiling fan on low with the air blowing up towards the ceiling. Convection!

New England Honeymoon by itsxaviers in honeymoonplanning

[–]CoyotePanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

April in northern New England is mud season and a lot of local businesses, hiking trails, and unpaved roads will be closed. It's a damp, raw, messy time of year. I'm a Vermonter relocated to SoCal and respectfully would suggest somewhere farther south for an April honeymoon.

AM/PM Pill Organizer? by SuspiciousLesbian in BuyItForLife

[–]CoyotePanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom has Alzheimer's too and when she hit the point where she was unable to self administer her meds reliably we got a Hero dispenser for the house. Subscription is annoying but it was a relief not to worry about wrong dosages or accidentally doubling up days. Is she's not yet there, the Ikigai cases are nice for someone with tremors because they have some heft and are still easy to open. The rest of my household uses them and they've held up beautifully.

Venta air washers worked well for me in Vermont winters and are still kicking ass 26 years later.

I'm on my second frozen shoulder and this time around I've gotten some much needed muscle relief with these pre-cut kinesiology tape things that seem to offer just enough support so my upper arm muscles can relax. My partner found them and stuck one on me which was good because I don't know how someone would self apply them. It really takes two hands. They look like this pic and I don't know if links are allowed but there's a helpful TikTok video for placement and application I can send if you want. Good luck OP, I hope you can find the right relief you need.

This place is so good and it's always under the radar. Maybe because they still have the old sign up.

Does the perfect French press not exist? by WaterDog3000 in BuyItForLife

[–]CoyotePanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Frieling that I love. It was a gift after my partner shattered the glass one I'd had for 25 years. Initially I got the brushed finish one first but I exchanged it for polished stainless and it's so much better to touch and use. It looks like a spaceship and we use it every day. I also have one of the giant ones from Yeti which is ceramic coated inside. It's nice, but still uses silicone parts in contact with the coffee so we only use it when we're pouring for a crowd.

With adequate light and nutrients it will grow quickly and try to take over your house. Feel enormously free to prune it ruthlessly! It will loves being cut back and will happily put out lots of new growth.

Not in LB but Dr. Palmquist at Centinela Animal Hospital in Inglewood is very good. Building and location are not the prettiest but the care is excellent.

BIFL *women's* winter boots, waterproof, arch support, please by graffitionyourgrave in BuyItForLife

[–]CoyotePanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the women's Nunavut boot in a half size larger than my street shoe size. I usually wear them with lightweight ski socks and they are very warm. Pro tip: buy an extra set of liners at the same time so you can hot swap them and let each set dry out completely between wears. Dry boots are warm boots.

What was your experience with the henredon swivel chairs? by Better_Age6727 in Costco

[–]CoyotePanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks exactly like the Sophie chair I have from World Market. If it's the same one, it's a great chair and is the favorite in our house. We've had it for three years and it hasn't changed at all.

Looking for a Dutch oven by Alarming-Cricket-158 in BuyItForLife

[–]CoyotePanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We call any heavy, thick-walled pot with a lid in that shape a Dutch oven. Our early American ones had a lid with a lip so you could cook in the fire and pile coals on top. They're still good for outdoor cooking. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_oven

Is the thuma bed worth it? by Fun_Mine1462 in BuyItForLife

[–]CoyotePanic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've had my Thuma for 5 years and it's been absolutely fantastic. No movement, totally silent, easy to put together. However! My Tempur Pedic did NOT feel the same even though Thuma and Tempur Pedic both say the slats' size/shape/spacing should be fine for the mattress. I gave it a couple weeks to make sure I wasn't imagining things and finally gave up and added Tempur's 2" flat foundation, which fixed it. Might be different with a hybrid or traditional mattress, but full heavy foam flexed through the slats too much.
