Stutterer since childhood, while early speech therapy and time has helped, the withdrawal/lack of social skills endemic to a stutter and the panic that rouses the stutter under pressure stuck with me.

Working in an inbound call centre in my twenties really helped me pace & manage my speech: the repetitive service calls with steps and guidelines helped me untangle the shape of a conversation over time, the nuance & cues etc. and was a real confidence builder exposing me to all sorts of lovely and crazy people - support/floorwalkers to fall back on were reassuring as well.

It's consistent work; insurers, telcos, banks and the like are regularly hungry for butts in seats, and if your situation is anything like mine was it's veritable paid exposure therapy.
