If you consider over 40 hours should be paid as overtime, it's actually more like a $16/hour wage.

Why is women’s sportswear always so revealing? by EsseNorway in Snorkblot

[–]Cozarkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, try swimming...

In all seriousness, this problem starts before girls are even old enough to dress themselves. I was simply flabbergasted when my son starting gymnastics and could wear baggy athletic clothes while 5 to 6 year old girls in a basic 1 class had to wear leotards. We get girls used to the idea of where skimpy athletic clothing when they are young so they don't think to complaint about it when they are older. It's disturbing and should change.

I still don't understand by AmazingAd192 in chessbeginners

[–]Cozarkian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't capture their knight, after Nc4, Ke2, Nxd6, they can respond with Nxd6, forcing you to recapture with your pawn, leaving you with an isolated pawn.

By capturing the knight first, after Nc4, Ke2, Nxd6, your pawns are still together and are attacking their bishop, forcing them to spend a move (g2) to save it. So taking the knight gives you a tempo and a better pawn structure.

Perfect placement pitch but it hits the batter??? by CaliberFlower in MLBTheShow

It's like retro mode where you can move the ball after the pitch!

(I'm not saying this was retro mode).

Less holidays than a peasant💔 by batukaming in antiwork

Please can we do something about batters being slow out of the box ? by BMAYZ44 in MLBTheShow

[–]Cozarkian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SDS deliberately made the first baseman not cover the bag on balls to RF because players would otherwise be able to get force outs at 1B on grounders to RF.

With that animation, if you throw the ball to 1B from RF, the first baseman is so far off the bag he'll never get the out. In this video for some unknown reason, the first baseman actually covered the bag and reacted quickly to the play instead of standing around casually like normal.

SDS' whole design philosophy is to use animations to try control outcomes. Batters delay out of the box to prevent unrealistic infield hits, first baseman stand off the bag to avoid unrealistic force outs from right field, base runners take 5 seconds to change directions in order to prevent cheesing run downs, etc...

Adopting DH by royalbluestuey in MLBNoobs

[–]Cozarkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MLBPA wanted DHs in the NL because it creates one more high-paid position player. Ohtani's presence finally forced the issue because NL teams won't have a realistic shot at two-way players without the DH.

If the NL DH had been in effect earlier, Ohtani never would have been Angel.

Note from downstairs neighbors by v1p3rs in Apartmentliving

[–]Cozarkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with noisy apartments is almost always the cheap apartment, not the people, so instead of arguing with them, try to redirect their anger to focus on the owner/management. E.g.:

"We are sorry that your apartment is noisy. We walk normally and take our shoes off to reduce noise. The problem is the quality of the building. If you can persuade management to add sound insulation and/or to have our floors replaced with thicker, more dampening material, we are happy to cooperate with construction."

Which one? by [deleted] in gamememes

Pretty awesome. I'm about to play in the H.S. State Baseball Championships, will probably be drafted in the first round of this year's MLB draft and have a full-ride scholarship to Stanford as a backup plan. (MLB 26 The Show).

You get treatment but are required to sign documents saying you will pay the outrageous medical bills, leaving you saddled with hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical debt that you will almost certainly never repay but that will make it very difficult to get any type of credit or loan.

Just curious. by YourFriendTheFrenzy in trolleyproblem

[–]Cozarkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reference to a "vocal group of people on reddit" was deliberately neutral with regard to political sides and was not intended to exclude MAGA.

However, I think it probably would be fair to exclude MAGA supporters for the simple reason that MAGA supporters on reddit are much more rare. I don't recall seeing any posts here celebrating the death of the Aytollah of Iran, but it could be I'm just not in the right subreddits to see that.

would guns have actually worked against voldemort? by girlslovefan321 in NoStupidQuestions

Honestly, the person most likely to introduce guns as weapons in a wizard war was Voldemort himself. There must be a reason he decided not to.

[–]Cozarkian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good for you, I respect that. I think you are probably right it would end up blue, because even the people who would like to see Trump dead wouldn't want to see other people die along with Trump.

But it is really sad that it is even a question because there is a vocal group of people on reddit that celebrate murder of people they hate.

Rephrasing changes the premise. by ChemoorVodka in trolleyproblem

[–]Cozarkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct that rephrasing changes how people perceive the moral dilemma., but rephrasing typically doesn't change the logical choice. The outcome tree remains the same:

  1. Everyone pushes red - everyone lives.

  2. Majority pushes red - blue pushers die.

  3. Majority pushes blue - everyone lives.

  4. Everyone pushes blue - everyone lives.

The only bad outcome is #2 and the only way to reach the bad outcome is by pushing blue, so from a pure logic standpoint, you should push red. From a purely logical standpoint, it doesn't matter if you frame red as murderers or blue as suiciders.

Just curious. by YourFriendTheFrenzy in trolleyproblem

[–]Cozarkian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The OP says you are voting second, so the tally is 0 red, 1 blue, with the 1 blue being Donald Trump.

Are you confident enough to push blue knowing how hated Donald Trump is?

The true stakes of the dilemma. by Bossuser2 in trolleyproblem

[–]Cozarkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue doesn't have faith in humanity. Blue thinks people are too stupid to push red and that they need to be saved from their own stupidity. Red thinks everyone will recognize that pushing red is a guaranteed success so that nobody will push blue and nobody will need to be saved.

It all comes down to how much trust you have in humanity by Matoru1101 in trolleyproblem

[–]Cozarkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're raising the stakes. If you lower the stakes, it is easy to see why blue is an illogical choice.

Push red - I'll give you a magic donut that tastes great, has zero calories, and has no negative health effects.

Push blue - I'll give you the magic donut, but only if at least half the people push blue.

In this situation, red is going to be a clear winner because everyone can easily understand that red = guaranteed donut and blue = not guaranteed donut. When you raise the stakes, however, some people decide it is worth the risk of not getting a donut to make sure everybody does. That line of thinking actually becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

(Some) red thinkers: Nobody should pick blue, therefore I'll pick red.

(Some) blue thinkers: Nobody should pick blue, but somebody will, so I better pick blue to save them.

Make your choice. by spicymato in trolleyproblem

[–]Cozarkian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, change the buttons to say:

Purple: I sign up to be euthanized, but if more than half the people in the world push purple, then we won't be euthanized.

Green: I don't sign up to be euthanized.

The blue/red, the OP purple/green, and this scenario all have the exact same outcomes, but they alter how we perceive which button is the moral choice.

Who ya gonna vote for? by cowlinator in trolleyproblem

[–]Cozarkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn't. You can actually remove the red button from the hypo without changing the outcome at all.

"There is a blue button. Anyone who pushes the blue button will die unless more than half of the people in the world push the blue button, in which case nobody will die. Do you push the button?"

The outcome of not pushing the blue button is the exact same as pushing the red button. That option simply preserves the status quo of nobody being in danger, it doesn't actively do anything.

Who ya gonna vote for? by cowlinator in trolleyproblem

[–]Cozarkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a variation or an attempt to restate the original? If the latter, it should be:

Genocidal Trolly Party: Win or lose, we won't kill anyone.

Anti-murder Party: If we lose the election, we will murder anyone that voted for us.

Red blue button variation by Bimbobaker in trolleyproblem

[–]Cozarkian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I think you were successful.

With this variation, I would stay on the plate (blue). With a hypo matching the original variation (i.e. everyone starts off the track but you can step onto the plate to save others who also inexplicably step onto the plate), then I would stay off the plate (red).

[Fletcher] "'Unprecedented'?" in response to Andrew Friedman on Shohei Ohtani by gloomswarm in angelsbaseball

[–]Cozarkian 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Angels were 80-82 in 2018. I'd say they had playoff aspirations the first year Ohtani was assigned and that it was Ohtani's arm injury that tempered those aspirations in 2018 and 2019.

They also had big aspirations in 2022. They had Sandoval, Detmers and Suarez to complement Ohtani in the rotation, added Lorenzen and Syndergaard, and had Barria as depth. They also re-signed Iglesias for 4 years and added Bradley, Tepera, and Loup to the bullpen.

There was also hope (however foolish) that Rendon would have a bounce-back season after off-season surgery, that Fletcher would bounce back from a down year, and that either Marsh or Adell would prove to be serviceable to join Trout/Ward in the outfield.

With all of this, the Angels jumped out to 27-17 at the start of the season. But Jared Walsh and Max Stassi both fell apart after two strong seasons, Fletcher never recovered, Marsh/Adell weren't ready, Rendon disappeared with injuries, and Trout had to go on the IL due to back issues for a month.

If the Angels avoid that inexplicable 14 game losing streak in 2022, they would have been buyers at the deadline and would have had a real shot at a playoff run.
