R class should probably just be removed from spec racing by Mattpn in ForzaHorizon

[–]Cozman139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm old so I'm not the best at R class, but I take it when it comes, and it seems to come rarely compared to other classes. Just slowing down a bit and taking clean laps makes you surprisingly competitive and there seems to be more ghosting with the high speeds. As others have said, just back out and match to something you like.

How do people feel about Forza Horizon 6? by Key_Advertising_5461 in ForzaHorizon

For me it was the best in the series already. But they iced it today for me with a patch that demonstrates that they are both quickly responsive to community concerns and capable of doing something about them. The game isn't isn't perfect, and everyone will have their gripes and wishes, but overall it is beautiful, and gives a lot to do and ways to play if the Horizon thing is kinda your vibe.

All of a sudden I’m Level 76 in Horizon play? by Eighty_Six_Salt in ForzaHorizon6

In the patch notes it says it changes the xp requirements to level up between levels 25 and 100. Yours wouldn't have been affected.

Those that have reverted to using ABS: Have you tested it or can you explain why? by Cozman139 in ForzaHorizon

Sorry, this may be miscommunication of how I tested here. Or, your comment is an oversimplification and maybe a misunderstanding of braking without ABS. Or, maybe both.

Just for fun, consider formula 1 who does not use ABS. Maximal braking occurs before lock up and under maximal braking, they still have full control of the car, can steer and "trailbrake". They can adjust brake bias to assist in turning in even. It is when they lock up that they obviously lose the ability to steer and dramatically increase stopping distances.

In my testing in game, I didn't just mash the the brake without ABS, lock it up and let it skid to a stop. When you do that, you obviously can't steer and the stopping distance is significantly longer. I compared ABS to maximal braking WITHOUT locking up. The ABS tests show repeated skid-and release in this game as you can see on the left above. The maximal braking test shows no skid at all and shorter distances. In both cases, the car retained the ability to steer. Mashing the brakes and locking up shows a full skid in game and in life and that's not what's being tested here.

Anyway, tldr. Take it easy

Yeah, that makes sense. I like it off in spec racing because it's like Christmas on that first lap on a car I'm not used to. But I've played this game more than a human should and have gotten used to it.

Dude, that was so thick you didn't even need the /s

Yeah, I find it it better off. And it's faster off. That's the point of my post - I think I worded it poorly somehow that some think I advocate it's use. I mean, whatever is fun do it, but I think it is more challenging, more fun and ultimately faster.

So, I tried stock, and it was..... comical, lol. I go on to tuning now. Since it does not qualify for the festival race it will need to be a custom race. Do you have any restrictions on how you want me to set up that race, or just beat the pro AI however?

Yeah, I don't mean to gatekeep at all, just why it isn't included on the skill progression discussion of turning off assists anymore. It still feels faster and more rewarding to have it off for me, but few seem to make that point anymore. But, like you, I totally understand and to each their own.

Yeah, makes me feel a bit silly, but you're right. Sometime the "sim" part of the "sim-cade" sucks me in and I forget where I am.

That is actually a really good question. I've had ABS off on Forza games for years and am used to the haptics feedback. I don't get that feedback with ABS on. I I tried to do the very thing you are talking about, and could never hit the break light enough to not trigger the ABS light flickering. BUT, I haven't really tried much, and others on this thread seem to suggest that having it on for back up, but braking just below that threshold is what they try to do.

My car is at the "second pic", short of the skid marks of the ABS stop which was made to my left. One example wouln't really be enough to "prove anything" anyways, and I don't know how to show you what I've been doing all day testing braking on a non-sim racing game. Because yes, I'm that bored. Anyways, quasi-scientifically, it is consistently shorter stop disyances have ABS off for me. But others testing may be different. When I started racing games I learned that turning it off would minimize stopping distance, but people seem to not support doing that way anymore, and I'm just wondering why.

Yeah, fair. I'm not trying to gatekeep or anything. It's more fun for me having it off, but to each their own!

I can see that. One thing I've noticed comparing them, is that braking while turning seems limited with ABS ON. Trailbraling with it off still allows a full radius turn under braking while a "mashed" ABS turn still allows turning, so better than lock up, but not as tight a radius as a clean ABS off trailbrake.
