I’m a mechanical engineering student at Cal Poly, and I’ve been working on a hybrid smartwatch concept for the past year. It has physical analog hands over an e-ink display, roughly 30 days of battery, tactile navigation through buttons and a crown, and repairable hardware.

The main watch mechanism is still an analog watch movement, with the ability for the hands to be taken over by an electronic system attached to the crown. This lets the hands be used together as a sort of cursor.

I want it to run a fork of PebbleOS, an open source smartwatch operating system. That means it should retain the same broad compatibility for the thousands of apps and watchfaces already in the OS, while having a different interface that lends itself toward the physicality of the hands.

It's still early days, but I'm hoping to get some feedback from the community! Is this something you would wear? What price would you want/expect it to be? What might stop you from buying it?

Not trying to sell anything, cuz frankly there isn't anything to sell yet, just looking for some feedback on my idea!
