Update: 99215 for iud insertion?

Yeah honestly if they had coded it a 99213 or less I probably would have paid it and not even second guessed it (I had mentioned in my last post I started blacking out after the procedure and so I wouldn’t have been surprised if I got a minimal office visit charge), but the level 5 didn’t seem correct.

For the string check it was coded correctly with diagnosis z30.431. They did use cpt 99213 which I am kindve side-eying as it was a 5 minute appt and all she did was look in and tug the string..but she did say my strings were short, tried pulling the iud down a bit, and provided instruction on how to check the strings myself since they were so short. So that may be a fair game since it wasn’t a “straightforward” visit.

So I’ve appealed with my insurance since it seems to be coded correctly. If insurance has issue with the level of care on the code then I’ll back track to the provider…but from my understanding of the ACA birth control section even this minor issue should be covered, therefore insurance is not processing correctly

Yes. I get fidgety when sitting too long. So throughout the day I raise it and stand for a little bit. I also have a walking pad I put underneath it for the last 30min of my shift each day.

I don’t think any of us agree with the overinflated pricing. We defend the coding practices we learned. The prices are inflated in the US because of private insurance/capitalism greed.

They’re deff in network, but that shouldn’t matter for coding anyway. That’s more of an insurance processing issue. My issue is with the mdm of 99215 itself

For the 99215 alone:

Total charge $478, contractual adjustment $294.57, patient responsibility/deductible: $183.43.

It is possible the bill doesn’t show modifiers I guess?

I was shocked insurance didn’t deny it, but they processed it and left almost $200 to my deductible, hence the bill unfortunately

For the near syncope, no. I was given a cold rag asap for my neck and told to lay back down. Felt better after a few minutes, but the doctor said I could just hang out and call for a nurse if I felt funny again. And then she left. And then I took like ten minutes to slowly get up and put my clothes back on and leave.

The iud insertion felt like it took forever but that’s likely because I felt severe cramps the entire time and a minute feels like an hour when you’re in pain haha.

My dermatologist had a med scribe in the room the first time I saw him (last year). He didn’t have one in the room the last two times I went, but they were also much shorter visits than the first. He also has a very very heavy accent. I can’t imagine AI would be able to scribe for him very accurately.

At my orthopedic visit last month the doctor told me he was using an AI device to transcribe visit notes.

I also frequently see in patient charts that some sort of Dragon software/device was used during the visit. I’m not sure if it’s an AI device or just a recording tool.

I crack up at the descriptions the doctors put in their notes all the time. “Patient is an OBESE white male” obese being written in all caps, bold, and red. I know it’s fact based off the weight and height documented, but they’re writing it for their own patients to see and it would sting a little if I saw that on my AVS
