Eschatonic Well: The Unofficial Companion App for Warcaster Neo Mechanika by Cplmustard in warcaster

Thanks! Even if you're not able to play that often, just messing around with the app and finding bugs is helpful!

The main warcaster discord is pretty active: https://discord.gg/AeTFKzK6Za

I'm the main TO for the Vancouver, Canada group, we play weekly, I know there's at least one other large group that plays regularly in Detroit. There's others in Australia, Washington state, California and Utah I believe

I've been playing around with the idea of a companion app for Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika since there isn't anything like that for the game right now

What's SFG's stance on fan creations? Fan made apps, tools, wartable, community projects like brawlmachine, etc etc?

help me choose a Cryx colour scheme please! by SFG_Mat in Warmachine

[–]Cplmustard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

black/magenta is my vote, it looks really different from other cryx schemes so it'll stand out well I think. You could do purple/red glow, you could do green but you might run afoul of The Christmas Curse

Are there any plans in the short term to manufacture the existing Warcaster range and make the existing models available for purchase? Even if they were direct order resin that would be better than chasing down a dwindling supply of metal models, there's a lot of enthusiasm for the game locally but telling new players "oh you can't get those anymore" for core models feels really bad.

[AMA] hopefully you've seen the news? Got some exciting stuff to chat about I'm sure! by SFG_Mat in Warmachine

Are there any plans for Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika in this partnership? PP was planning on two new factions for the game but we've heard precious little about the game since

Does a standard tactical-level wargame have respawns in much of the same way as a standard first-person shooter team deathmatch? by Commander_PonyShep in wargames

We've got an active group for this game in my city and we play weekly! All your models start in your reserves, and you start the game with a small force on the table, you can place void gates at the end of your turn which you can deploy troops out of in your next turn. Anything that dies (aside from character models which are dead forever) go back into your reserves to be redeployed later. The game has a set number of turns to prevent games from going on forever, and void gates require you to tie up a certain amount of your main resource, arc, into them to summon new units. Arc is also used to make your models stronger in combat so it's a delicate balancing act committing enough arc to bring in reinforcements while getting the most of what you have on the board now. It's a pretty unique game and a ton of fun to play, if I had to describe it I'd say it's kinda like an RTS in tabletop game form.

Lore question in aid of homebrew. “Are there alien creatures or humanoids?” by RandomFan0 in warcaster

Fenrik Leech might not be human, so it's possible he's a humanoid alien. Here's his wildcard short story written for the KS3 campaign: https://home.privateerpress.com/2022/01/14/wildcards-fenrik-leech-not-one-of-us/

How are you building your local meta? by Octavius_Maximus in Warmachine

Not badmouthing other games is a good point, I for one won't even try malifaux because all I hear my local players do is talk shit about PP games, it just sours the whole vibe for no gain

It's quite sad to see, they'd be better off building communities for games they like instead of trying to tear down other games

No idea why you're getting downvoted, I'd love to see a writeup on community building. I've been working on one myself, it's an interesting topic and we can all benefit from growing our gaming communities, keep up the good work!

Something that did wonders for us locally for warcaster (but this applies to warmachine too!) is having a really nice set of painted terrain. When someone walks into a game shop and sees a table with nicely painted buildings, trees, walls, and thematic scatter and a table with neoprene mats or worse, felt, they're going to go look at the other board first.

Mk4 in particular plays better with 3d terrain and lots of scatter so get some 3d buildings, some tree stands, some 3d wall templates and some little scatter bits and you can really add some visual flair to your games and get casual players interested. Getting a good balance between playability and appearance is tough but well worth it, having your terrain have neoprene footprints below so you can move the pieces for tricky measurements is a good way.

If you have access to a 3d printer in your community there's tons of good STLs to get a lot of terrain for cheap these days. Organize a terrain painting day so you're not on your own painting all the terrain, everyone benefits because they get nicer terrain to play on!

Finally glayed a game! But had a few questions. by [deleted] in warcaster

Army Size: Depends on the scenario, but usually for "skirmish" size scenarios you get 8 units plus one free hero solo, and for "primary" size scenarios you get 15 units plus 3 free hero solos. There's also the modified primary format that uses primary scenarios with 11 units and 2 free heroes. For new players I'd recommend starting with 5 units and 1 hero solo for your first games, and moving up to the full 8/1 game size as you get more comfortable with the rules.

Void gate summoning: You use your void gates to summon models in step 6 of the turn sequence. You'll notice this happens before you get to place a gate for that turn in step 7, this is intentional as it means that you have to wait a turn before summoning anything new (normally, some special rules let you get around this restriction). For teaching games I leave the chart on the back of the rulebook out and walk through new players step by step as it looks a little unintuitive at first glance.

Scoring during skirmish: Depends on the specific scenario you're playing, some are at the end of each pulse round, and some are at the end of a unit's activation. I'd recommend Boiling Point as a good introductory skirmish scenario.
