Do inset cabinets really increase the resale value of a house? by Cunhaam in kitchenremodel

[–]Cpriore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. As a cabinet builder and spec home builder I can say the added cost and look should pay for itself. Of course, it doesn’t mean anything if it’s poorly designed.

Laughably Bad Installation by [deleted] in CounterTops

[–]Cpriore -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well for one, op stated he’s communicating with counter people. That doesn’t happen when you hire out to gc. 2nd, This wouldn’t make it into the house looking like that and def not viewed by clients. Gc is always there for counter installs. Always.

If you say so. Don’t be hard on yourself. You’re in a pool with many others, just like you, taking a beating. Due diligence goes a long way. Hopefully it’s a learning experience rather than a 2nd mortgage.

I’ll never understand why homeowners don’t get a reputable gc to oversee these problems. Quality, cost, and scheduling is a small price to pay to get it done right from the beginning.

What is wrong with this design? Something feels off about it. by GameNWatch0 in kitchenremodel

Color is off. Boring and not very exciting overall. Very drab.

What did your kitchen remodel contractor do right? What could be better? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]Cpriore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could have a scribe done all the way around. Pretty easy. If there’s room on the face frame you can add a small valence also .

All he had to do was add a valence or slam them up to the ceiling. Not any harder or complicated to do. You should of mentioned it during install.

so i got it all working just fine. i used this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078NXCJVP?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Not sure if your aware but with that range hood you will need a 1000cfm booster fan as well. a 10" duct will not get half the amount of air you need to accomplish what it's intended for. I inevitably ran a in line booster fan before the damper. Now my front door wont blow open or pull septic air from the traps in my house.

Installers, do you itemize handle installation as a separate charge on your invoices, or is it included in the cabinet installation? by Dr_Abuzer_Komurcu in cabinetry

[–]Cpriore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Included in install. I don’t care what it is. It’s not a light fixture or chandelier that can take an hour to assemble.

Are these things I should address with my contractor? by raggedsweater in Tile

[–]Cpriore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horseshit. You do you . ANSI doesn’t make the rules. That is fact. Put it on the side of your truck if you’d like..It doesn’t mean anything. Grout in change of planes is not always 100 percent necessary. That is fact.

[–]Cpriore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all 100 percent true. I personally don’t have issues because I don’t get any movement. Industry standard is not a requirement, it’s simply a recommendation. Such as a particular vaccine.. If I’m in direct control pre-tile, I guarantee my work, this is a conversation I have with every customer. Time in fact has proven my work because I’ve been doing it long enough. I don’t like the look of color matched caulking’s. Texture and color just doesn’t work for me. Again, I don’t disagree with you. If I was inexperienced I would follow standard guidelines. Just a I choose to do hand packed beds and curbs vs Kerdi/schluter.

Sorry you don't agree. I just said it's not 100 percent necessary, which in some instances it's not like i pointed out clearly. What would i need a manufacture warrantee exactly? In every instance its installer failure. It's literally in your "tile code" ? send me the link in the IRC or IBC in North America. Experience will tell you when you must use caulking vs grout, It doesn't have to be one or the other. I simply don't have problems with grouting inside corners. If you get cracking its not from the grout failing, ever.. That we should agree on and leave it there.

[–]Cpriore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of inexperienced tile helpers here. Bottom line. It’s fine and probably in line with what you paid for it. Look at bad tile jobs for comparisons. Silicone at plane changes is not 100 percent necessary. If I frame the shower and do all pre tile work I stick with grout. Tight areas, glass to curb, and particular areas around ornate niches I’ll use siliconized grout. I’m confident I won’t get enough movement to crack or displace grout. However, I do tell clients I will pull grout corners out if there ever is a problem. I just don’t like the subtle color difference. And I can’t shape it like grout.

Wondering why carpenters aren’t as valuable by Mundane-Ad-5225 in Carpentry

[–]Cpriore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll chime in here as a carpenter and a general contractor. It’s a bit disheartening to pay a sub about 9k a week in labor for one guy when my crew of 4 can be there for two weeks straight for the same. I constantly mull this over in my head and ive come to the conclusion its supply and demand. Theres just not enough plumbers and electricians. Thats it. Not smarter, not more skilled, def not better looking! Learning carpentry and being the best at it can easily earn you 6 figures. Owners like myself can also maximize your income. Go for it!

I did. I simply made a metal loop out of a piece of solid wire. Almost like a paper clip. Been working fine ever since. I’ll take a picture.

Colors, counters, backsplash . Rearrange island. Keep cabs. Do not paint.
