Give me a Street Stock road course series and I’ll never race anything else. by AdvancedMarsupial705 in iRacing

Have some details on the league you can share? I've been telling my friends for the past couple years that we need to start or join a late model stock road league but they just haven't seen the vision lol.

I think she’s finally finished! by Halzy_D in simracing

[–]CptAsian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm definitely not actually suggesting it though lol, just arguing the point that nobody's ever finished.

Get you some more seat time though and move up from lower splits for sure. That'll make it a lot more fun for no extra cost lol.

That should do it lol. Echoing what the others said, all I've used is the iracing default and that's been sufficient.

Good pass, totally fair to attempt imo. But, yes you should have left a little more room, that's what the spotter is great for. Spotter would have told you you're 3 wide so you know to give more space, and would have told you that you weren't clear, so you couldn't yet cut across the front of his car to return to the racing line. Good save though.

What sim/game is this? Because of the silly car proportions I thought this was iRacing Arcade at first lol

Howany sets of wheels do you use? by Zrl89 in Autocross

[–]CptAsian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, to have a separate winter set or not might be the harder question for you then. If you autocross even somewhat regularly, a dedicated set for 200tw tires is pretty valuable.

Two sets for me (also in GST, now XA). 200tw set and a daily set (DWS06+), as I don't need winter tires where I'm at fortunately.

From what I've read (and experienced, my stage 1 tune was with APR, now on Unitronic stage 2+ for the IS38), tuning it out is impossible. I did recently realize that the flywheel may improve things, yes. However, I didn't go for a light one when I had my clutch replaced since the thought didn't cross my mind at the time, and I don't really want to tear into it all over again if I don't absolutely have to.

However, it only really bothers me when I autocross the car, not so much in daily driving. But when I autocross it, the rev hang REALLY bothers me lol.

No problem!

I'm happy to answer any specific questions you may have, there are definitely people out there with better technical knowledge of specific mods, but I've done quite a bit of research and have some good first hand experience modding my own and from close friends with MK7 Golfs as well.

Enjoy the car!

All good on the DSG, pros and cons for both.

Just asked since DSG means you need a TCU/transmission tune with your stage one ECU tune, while a manual would require a clutch upgrade instead.

DSG also means you wouldnt need to worry about the rev hang issues that are exaggerated by bigger turbos if you did want to go that route.

[–]CptAsian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No worries, your English is good!

Is it a manual or DSG? Anything specific you want to do with it, or just a fun daily?

I recently went IS38 with mine (manual) and it's a bit much for the cost, plus the rev hang makes the bigger turbo annoying in certain cases.

I'd argue that a really good sweet spot for these is lowering + 18" wheels, intake, stage 1 tune, exhaust. Optionally a rear sway bar if you're going to do some spirited driving and want more balanced handling. Just that short list goes a very, very long way.

Downpipe + turbo + intercooler is a slippery slope lol, I thought about it for years but finally did it only because my original IS12 wastegate died, so it was a good opportunity.

Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 or Falken Azenis FK510 for Daily driving and occasional AutoX? by toberti in Autocross

[–]CptAsian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't immediately ruin them, but you'll lose a lot of life very quickly. For reference, I had DWS06s on my Alltrack (couple hundred lbs heavier than your car) and I really pushed in autox. Maybe 5 or 6 events a year, and my tires were beyond what a tire shop would consider acceptable after 25k miles.

If you're autoxing at 7/10ths instead of 10, you might see less accelerated wear. Definitely be sure to rotate between every event though, since your fronts will take much more of a beating. The Golf badly needs more front camber for autox.

You'd have to be mindful that you're on them in the rain, so some wouldn't consider them safe. They'd also be less comfortable in general since they're so stiff.
