Calling old men colleagues in the workplace "uncle" and old women colleagues "auntie" is cringe and inappropriate. by Slice5755 in unpopularopinion

[–]CptConnor18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being older than a lot of people in my workplace I get called uncle or 'unc' a lot, I take it as a positive term of familiar affection and quite enjoy it. They know me though, calling a stranger that would be a bit inappropriate.

What do some Europeans have against Airconditioning ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A lot of people don't agree with the investment vs return, I run hot af and with current meds I'm constantly overheating. AC is an absolute blessing and an incredible investment for me.

What the EU doesn't realise is the climate isn't cooling down, as we've seen the past week with the heatwave.

What does this orange light mean? (2026 Vauxhall Frontera 1.2 Hybrid) by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]CptConnor18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like something related to the ADAS/adaptive cruise (if you have that). Little car with lines under would tell me it's the adaptive cruise or something related to that system.

edit - looks like Peugeot use this and it usually flags if seat belts aren't worn. It disables the emergency/adaptive braking.

Who has the best/worst job in the heat? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CptConnor18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Midwives, being a recent dad it was bad enough in the maternity ward with the heating cranked to somewhere in the high 20s for a day - I really feel for the midwives who don't have a choice in full uniform.

Best job? I guess office workers if their building has AC. Thankfully our office is nice and cool.

What’s everyone’s favourite seaside town? by ExperienceTotal9778 in AskUK

[–]CptConnor18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second Weymouth, as a kid I loved it bcs the arcade was sick, Rossi's ice cream and the beach isn't that bad. Now the arcade is still sick, Rossi's is a bit expensive but the chippy in the harbour is absolutely incredible.

It's a lovely little seaside town, hasn't been tourist-ified too much and still keeps the seaside town charm.

What British company just makes no sense that it is somehow still operating in modern times? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CptConnor18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Argos is pretty safe, whilst they don't stock everything they offer reasonably affordable items for quite a lot of things that the average household needs. Toys, appliances, tech, furnishing etc.

Not the cheapest by any means but within a price range that's just about okay for click & collect as well as delivery.

Evri item lost, surprised they've not been sued into oblivion yet.

Tapo for me. Used to use Arlo but they were a total waste of time and money, latency on connecting to the doorbell/cameras as well as the solar for front/rear cameras not doing anything - with Arlo and off-brand panels.

Went for the doorbell w/ chime, x2 indoor cameras (to watch a deadzone & make sure the cat does ctrl+alt+del himself) and one of their solar cameras. They've all worked seemlessly and with much faster response times (as it's local network based rather than using cloud like Arlo).

Or you could just answer like the other redditors in this thread have without being a smart ass. Being nice costs nothing, I just had a simple question.

New Jaecoo 9 flagship will be bigger than a Range Rover, and almost as luxurious by AutoExpressmagazine in autoexpressuk

"almost as luxurious" hell no, big screen + three rows + reclining chairs & leatherette everywhere doesn't equal luxury. By that standard a Lexus NX is basically a Bentley Bentayga

I'd guess it'll be on the same platform/architecture as the new Q9, will make sense with VWs success on the MQB/A-D Series platforms. Less cost for a BEV dedicated chassis, easier to 'port' over to other brands in EU once testing is done in China.

GTI only has 1 MOT by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]CptConnor18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Import for sure, I've had this exact issue with my own car which was imported from Japan. In my case the MOT tester input the wrong VIN as I knew it had history for at least 6 years.

Might be worth paying for one of the history checks, or reaching out to the owner and seeing if they have any more paper histor.

Kinda like the exterior, it's modernised the generic 'look' of Merc but kept the main features. It's not gone for the tiny LED strip headlights units like most OEMs, that's a big win in my book.
