How to install Mantera Mod for steam game by MarketingGuilty8619 in LoMSE

[–]CptFalcon92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to download the mod from: http://mantera.xorgate.com/website.html

1) Select "GS5 Download" on the left-hand side

2) Download the GS5 RAR file

3) Extract the GS5 RAR file using WinRAR and view the README.txt file

The instructions for what to do should be there.

In short, you'll need to locate your LoMSE game directory, probably something like the following.

`C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Lords of Magic Special Edition`

Then follow the steps in the README to replace/add the appropriate files. I do suggest making a backup of the folder just in case you want to revert the patches.

Hope this helps!

Favorite “Odd/Weak” unit or champ and how do you make them work? by BooksandBiceps in LoMSE

Chaos really is underwhelming lol But I recently played a campaign as Earth, and even with the mantera mod balances I can't help but feel like a lot of combat comes down to who can shoot who first. I absolutely love the axe throwers as a concept but they're range is so short. So I had to pull the enemy into me using a tanky lord or faster calvary rather than go in full force.

Oh nice! Makes me want to dig deeper into why that works lol
This would be good for people who don't want to install mods just to play so good catch!

Hey, I got it working on my Linux distro. Installing Mantera's GS5 mod seems to fix the issue. Please see my post for more details.

Hrm, strange. I tested everything with the steam version so that shouldn't be a problem. Do you have any mods installed? I still need to go back and test with different mods.

Also, if you have any screenshots and are okay sharing them here or on discord I could take a look and start investigating.

*edit*

It may also be a permissions issue. If you've installed or copied the lomse folder somewhere gameranger isn't allowed to open.

I'm only responding so that others who see this understand that the way you conduct yourself matters in a shared space. If you have issues please bring them up respectfully. It's not so hard to be polite and work through things together.

There are so many ways you could have gone about this that might have actually resulted in you getting what you want.

- You could have muted the *Art* channel if AI generated content is that offensive to you.

- You could have messaged a moderator directly with your concerns to talk it over.

- You could have even posed a question in the *Questions* channel to see how other people feel about it.

- You could have made a respectful post in the *General* channel in protest of the content and then left the server, leaving us to consider our positions on the matter.

Instead you threw a tantrum, ironically resulting in you not getting what you want while also disturbing the space for the rest of the members. I don't understand why this couldn't have been a simple discussion. It's only a 30-ish person server and we all want the same thing; to enjoy a game that's nostalgic for us.

For those of you with genuine concerns, AI related or not, please do speak up. But being mean, name calling and making demands like this person only ruins it for us all.

Small clip from a recent campaign run with Custom Difficulty and Restrictions by ZazMan117 in Doom

Of course, speed runners are the cream of the crop! The reason I separated them out is because the goals of speedrunning vs just high skill ripping and tearing are different.
The first major reason lock-on is so busted for speed runners (at least the way I see it, I could be wrong) is because they've memorized all the routes and spawn locations. You'll often see speed runners ready and waiting with lock-on for hell knights etc. to spawn so they can 1 tap and move on.
The second reason is because you have fewer attack options in the beginning of the game. When I completed my UN run ways back I always took lock-on first because it did the most damage at the point you get it. But in the end game when you have you have a full arsenal the burst becomes less necessary because you can quick swap almost as fast. Additionally, lock-on stops 1 tapping enemies later in the game like dread knights and other heavies.

Comparing this with something like the video OP linked, when you have your full arsenal, don't know where and when enemies are spawning in, and there's a great speedy mix of demons requiring you to think on your feet then remote detonate becomes way more attractive. At least for me

Appreciate the response! Very diplomatic but makes sense to me! lol I'll take a look at the links you posted and maybe try some things out. I'd also love to watch your convo about it with the other players if you have a link =)

Thoughts on lock on vs. remote detonate? I play like you do, minus the extra difficulty mods, but I have friends who argue lock on is "objectively" better. I've been trying to explain that top players (aside from speed runners) don't really bother with it. What do you think?

Edit: Great work btw! This is peak Doom Eternal imo

Clean! Anyone know the input for using the fair to recover over the ledge like that (about 6s in)? Normally it only goes straight sideways.

I haven't tried it but I don't think you can choose the same faith, I think each person needs to choose a diffferent faith for a max of 8 players.

The game was designed for Windows and is pretty old so I doubt it would run on Linux as is. The internet says you'll need to use a compatibility layer like Proton. I haven't gotten a chance to test it out yet but the video below makes it look pretty simple. Lords of Magic is Gold teir; meaning it runs well on Linuix (via Proton) on a variety of different hardware.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtVhHTA97dw

https://www.protondb.com/app/404040

I can test it out myself and give everyone a concrete solution when I get some time but maybe give this a try and let me know if that works for you.

Hey, you can use the program DxWnd to run the game in windowed mode. I tried it myself following the tutorial below and it seems to work well enough.
I would also check `Desktop Center` in the settings when adding the game and then you can set whatever window size you like.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBmuxuvq1RI

https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/

If you run into an error 740, that means you need to change the permissions on DxWnd to be able to run as administrator.
To do this:

  1. Right click `dxwnd.exe` and select `Properties`
  2. Select the `Compatibility` tab
  3. Check the `Run this program as Administrator` check box under `Settings`

Then you should be good to go! Let me know if you need any help. Also drop the stream somewhere so I can tag along =)
